WW2 Battle of Narvik

Postby lt.Futt on Tue Apr 17, 2018 3:55 am

I'd like to tip map founders about WW2 Battle of Narvik from 9th of April to 8th of June 1940. The nazis were defeated by British, French, Polish and Norwegian troops. This was the nazis first defeat in WW2. Later British and French troops retreated to defend France. The nazis took Narvik.

Narvik provided an ice-free harbour in the North Atlantic for iron ore transported by the railway from Kiruna in Sweden. Both sides in the war had an interest in securing this iron supply for themselves and denying it to the enemy, setting the stage for one of the biggest battles since the Invasion of Poland

Would be a great map!

Even in 1944 the Germans kept large numbers of troops and aircraft in Norway even though they were desperately needed on other fronts. The Germans valued the iron ore and the Allies kept feeding reports that an attack was eminent. The attack didn't happen. Therefore, a large percentage of German aircraft in museums today are from Luftwaffe 5.

Look forward to your map, sounds cool!
