You're deluded if you think the EU is going to collapse anytime soon, if ever.

I love being deluded. Of course you have to define the term "collapse" very carefully. "Collapse" is a loaded word. Economic collapse for example can be hard to precisely define. Is it a really sucky recession or a mild depression or a ... (doesn't matter if you are out of work what you call it). Growing states of "no go" zones where separate legal and judicial systems are in effect as Muslim immigrants refuse to assimilate to European cultural norms. And most importantly, an exponentially expending bureaucracy from Brussels with absolutely no connection whatsoever to the citizens within the union with national governments being pressured to surrender to that bureaucracy.

I predict that the straws will break the back of Germany in five years. Economic stagnation will probably hit the extremities of the union before that (PIGS still ain't got wings). When all is said and done the EU will wake up and realize that the best it can be is mediocre going year by year with stagflation.

Doubtful. The UK merely had a very unusual political system for a european nation. Germany, as well as most of europe, have coalition-type democracies. Meaning that any extremist party would have to gain other parties support in order to hold a referendum. It seems highly unlikely Germany would leave the EU with no other party but the far right being eurosceptic. Germany is traditionally left-wing-oriented.

That being said, I genuinely don't understand all of the angst over Trump being elected. Did I personally vote for him? Well, those of you that remember me know there wasn't much chance of that (I didn't vote for Hillary either...I held my nose and voted for Johnson).

But there are a number of reasons to believe that President Trump isn't really going to mirror Candidate Trump. I'm willing to give it a wait-and-see approach.

I'll tell you why, you might not agree, but at least give it a thought.

Cognitive dissonance.

Consider, the typical anti-Trump protester believes three things-
1. They believe they are smart and well informed.
2. Their good judgment told them that Trump is Hitler or something equally as bad.
3. Half the voters in the US, including plenty of smart people, voted for Trump anyway.

This is what went on in the minds of these anti Trump people and since all three of those facts can't be reconciled something has to give. In comes the cognitive dissonance.
You see they have to view this in one of two ways, First, they could accept that half the voters don't view Trump as a monster and that perhaps Trump isn't a monster.
The problem with that option is that conflicts with the person's own self image as being smart and well informed.
So, in order to explain a way Trump got elected while also believing you are smart, well informed and think it is obvious Trump is a monster, you have to go to option number 2.

Option number two is to literally hallucinate that Trump supporters know Trump is a monster and that they prefer the monster Trump.

A rational person can understand that there are a lot of people who voted for Trump who are smart, well informed voters who given the choices they had went with Trump over Hillary. This fact is completely lost on the anti trump protester who are not able to even entertain the idea that their perceptions could be so wrong. They therefore must, for the sake of their own self image, assume that trump voters must be defective in some moral or mental way.

The protesters are living in a world where they are fighting an evil monster called Trump and Trump voters are living in a world where they got the President they hope will make the changes they prefer. The same world, two different realities.

Kinda makes one question the whole concept of reality for a second, but hell, reality doesn't make a damn bit of difference in the end. Everyone makes their own damn reality no matter how crazy or irreconcilable those realities are with facts.

You can call the POTUS an imaginary title but if you ask someone to point out who the POTUS is and they haven't been living under a rock for the last eight years, they'll point to a picture of Obama. The only thing an individual can say to themselves about what is real is their own self. I think, therefore I know I am real. From my POV there is no possible way you can convince me that I don't exist, even if I don't exist. You can't prove that I don't exist, even if you are sure I don't exist. If my own self awareness doesn't exist, since you are making the claim I say it is up to you to prove that I don't have self awareness. Good luck with that.
Everything else is only my own perception and I have no real way of knowing for sure if my perception is the same as another individuals or if it even has any real basis in reality, what the f*ck ever that is.

The good thing is that human beings evolved without the need to understand reality at all because it's not important to survival. Any illusion that keeps us alive long enough to procreate is plenty good enough to keep the species going.

The "title" of POTUS is not imaginary. When my daughter was six her dolls lived in some kingdom I can't remember what she called. I'll just say "Dory, the Kingdom of Dory". One of her dolls was the Queen of Dory. That was an imaginary title as far as I can tell.

Instead of "imaginary" for POTUS, I think it is closer to say it is a man made "concept", just as the idea of a forest is not imaginary, it's a man made concept for an unspecified number of trees kinda clumped together.

I'm pretty sure that even though I'm old and fat, I could outrun Hillary. The Donald might be another matter. He's pretty tall and looks healthy for his age. Nothing that a crowbar to the kneecaps wouldn't fix. Is it a federal offense to want to kneecap the president-elect?
