Oregon side of Hells Canyon, about mid state (eastern border)....looking over the Snake River canyon to Idaho....brutal fucking hunting....lol, just spent our annual week there. But beautiful country....we were after Chukar, Hungarian Partridge and Quail....saw elk, mule deer, antelope, duck, geese, turkey, rattlesanke, bullsnake, jackrabbit....lots of badger holes, thankfully they are nocturnal....lots of cougar and black bear too but thankfully dinna see them either!...amazing amount of wildlife for such a desolate fucking place...Dukasaur wrote:Nope, but it's still a great picture.KoolBak wrote:Can you see me down there?
Just north 40 miles or so is the deepest gorge in north america, Hat Point...over 7,000 drop. My brother in law and dog's ashes are there....

Would you still hunt them if they could carry guns themselves?

Re: Post a picture of yourself!
Had us some chukar nuggets last night with wild chanterelles and taters.....mmmmmmm
Thanks Nyetz.....I can't sleep at night when yer mad at me
And yes...shotgun....this one in particular is a winchester model 59....made only from 1959-62 approx....my favorite model and exceedingly rare these days. We have 5 in the family. Weighs like 5 pounds (normal is 8 or so)....first attempt at a featherweight shotgun for upland hunters (walking is ridiculous...want to lighten the load). Aluminum receiver and a super thin steel skin barrel wrapped with 7 miles of fiberglass.....shoots like a dream ;o). And yes, the gun is older than even I am
(shaddap DDS)
Now you can all sleep better tonight knowing this critical information.....

Ooh ooo, pick me, pick me! I totally want to take my kids out to hunt those with a nice 22. I am well aware I will likely be going hungry that day, having not gotten any but it would still be a challenge and fun.TA1LGUNN3R wrote:That's a shotgun, i believe. Who hunts fowl with a rifle?

Re: Post a picture of yourself!
Not legal....and VERY difficult
Crafty little devils....
This describes the insane chukar hunter well....
After you’ve paid your dues, after hundreds of muscle cramps, frozen eyelashes, blisters, windburned cheeks, sunburned ears, fingers so cold they won’t bend and lips so cracked they can’t smile, after days when you’d trade your shotgun for a library card and your dog for a goldfish, you’ll look out one day over a landscape that opens itself only to those people who love it and realize you are one of them. You’ll turn around on a steep slope that has been kicking your butt to see the sun’s reflection on the river far below. You’ll gaze at the mountains 80 miles away, and see the world between in wrinkles, in springs, in knife-edged ridges, in rimrock as strong as the gods and fragile as eggshells. And above, you’ll hear that rhythmic chuk … chuk … chukkerrr from the birds you pursue. Rookie chukar hunters consider it mocking laughter, but you’ll know better. You’ll know they’re talking to you, telling you: Hurry back, hurry back – bring it on. That sound, that invitation, that challenge, helps you put the entire experience in perspective.
