When you were a kid...dream of Olympics?

My favorite Olympic sport is, and has always been, men's ice hockey, particularly when they started letting the pros participate. It's the only sport I really care about in all the Olympics.

while i can appreciate it's appeal, 2/3 of the women are 6'+ amazons with asses that are too big for my tastes. they are almost always wearing sunglasses and those stupid little cycling caps, too. but the worst for me is the constant "high fiveing" after EVERY play, it has literally lost all meaning. plus, i don't really feel it should be an olympic sport. perhaps permanent demonstration status but an actual olympic event? nah.

most of the events in the olympics aren't sports anyways. The only ones I'd consider a sport in the current summer games are soccer, basketball and tennis

I would consider those (+ rugby) a selection of sports that shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Also sorry Canada, you won't beat Australia in the womans 7s.

tennis, soccer and rugby, definitely not because they already have premiere international competitions.

The Soccer is distinctly different as Olympic soccer is Under-23, with 3 geezers allowed per team.

I don't get you guys sometimes...

Olympics should be the pinnacle of all sporting endeavors, unless there is a world cup that is bigger, or if the playing field is so narrow (eg. Man's basketball, gumboot throwing, etc.) that it doesn't justify international competition.

I would include everything, even if that means one day we will see esports in the Olympics (I don't support it personally, but who am I to say what the right interpretation of the word sport is, it's loose enough to include anything competitive that isn't sleeping).

But the under-23 shit, and pros not coming shit has to go. If the best arent at the Olympics then the sport shouldn't be there.

ps: I am an olympic-aholic; I was up early this morning rooting for AZB (wherever the f*ck that is) against the Chinese archer in the first elimination round - I love the competition and appreciate the skill and dedication of the athletes, no matter what weird shit they are competing in!

When I grew up, most of the Summer Olympics sport coverage was focused on

• track and field ... running was never my thing
• swimming ... I prefered to float
• diving ... cannonball isn't an allowed style
• gymnastics ... a girl's thing

All covered wonderfully on ABC's Wide World of Sports.

All wonderful, but nothing that I wanted to dedicate my youth to.
