Possible ways to improve the auto kick feature.

Postby Im stupid on Mon Jun 06, 2016 2:56 pm

Better idea then last post for auto kick out suggestion.

Rather then have automatic kick out after 3 consecutive turns change the consecutive number to 2. A person who intends to deadbeat will usually miss 2 turns on the game they are playing. Those who don't deadbeat but have real life problems usually miss only 1 turn and then we don't see any misses from them except in extraordinary circumstances. In addition to this implement a 3 strike rule. This means that no matter if the player misses consecutive turns or not they will automatically be kicked out if they miss 3 turns. I think this would be beneficial because in team games, a person missing several turns is a liability to the team and allowing them to stay active for 3 whole turns isn't exactly fair to their team. Plus in a team game if a player on one team gets kicked let another player from there team take over the game so the other team isn't completely screwed if something goes wrong, if this is not already done. I'm not really sure what would happen if a person deadbeats in a team game to be honest. As for single games same policy. Its not really fair to the free players to have one of there game slots taken up by a deadbeat. neither is it for the premium players to be honest. Finally for the polymorphic games, a miss should count for all 3 of the persons teams not just one. They are all the same player. I don't see why they should be counted separately. I actually had a deadbeat in a polymorphic game who never took a single turn with all 3 of his teams. I had no idea he was deadbeating because I was playing hundreds of games at the time and didn't notice the missed turns because I expected him to have made a move. Well after several weeks I come back to the game to find two of his teams were gone and he'd never played a move since the start of the game. If I'd known he was a deadbeat I wouldn't have wasted several minutes of time analyzing the board and taking my turn with the belief I was actually fighting an actual person. anyway I'm going to stop because I'm starting to babble but at least consider these suggestions. thanks ^^

Don't like the three strikes rule. I have games that last several months. Don't mind kicking after 2 turns, especially if they are the first 2 turns (or turns 2 and 3) when we see most deadbeating.

It is a slight shame I scan the players to see which I suspect will db and deliberately don't hit them in the first couple of rounds. Essentially using them as extra defensive blocks. However I don't actually think it is a huge issue.

That's a good point. I didn't know that some games do last for months. I'll have to think about those scenarios. thanks for telling me that bob. ^^

hmm...maybe to accommodate players who are in games that last for months or even years we could use the original rule above however, each time one month passes everyone gets a fresh start. Which means for games that last a long time whenever they are single or team, all the players will be forgiven for any missed turns, if they have not reached the 3 strikes. This would keep the deadbeats out of the shorter games, while at the same time ensuring people who play very long games will not find themselves kicked out after losing track of a turn every now and then.

basically each person would be allowed to miss 2 turns a month as long as the misses are not consecutive.

this would be per game just to clarify. You wouldn't be penalized if you missed a total of 3 turns if the turns you missed were from different games. Each game would be counted separately. it would be a nightmare for people who play 100's of game if they missed turns in multiple different games and got kicked from all of them. :0

no as someone who has health problems that would b unfair
I have never intentionally deadbeated but i have missed two consecutive turns
For me it is a 160 mile round trip to an Emergency Room.
I can easily miss a turn. if i get admitted it can b 2 easily and sometimes 3
I think that three is more than the best option

I think the most frustrating form of deadbeating is when players miss turns towards the beginning of the game. I wouldn't be opposed to a stricter policy at the beginning of the game (missing the first turn or 2 of the first 5). I think this would better protect free members from getting stuck in games they won't even really get to play. For more established games, I'm less inclined to change the policy as some games can last for months.

Keep in mind that the above is just an example and may be fine tuned later.

I think a stricter miss policy at the beginning of games is reasonable. I get the concerns of not wanting to have a strict policy for longer games.
We can just go with the stricter beginning policy if that's easier for everyone.

I like the 3 total and you are out rule (not the current 3 consecutive). I also hear and had not thought about the concern of the person with health problems. I respect that as a concern we should keep in mind. (I would suggest a good sitter would help, not just from keeping the game going, but keeping your position in the game developing.)

I really like the idea of a quicker kick in the early rounds. And yes, some games do go months. I have been in some of them.
