Re: April 2016 - "Logarithmic Plots are a Device of the Devi
For a last chance at joining games that can count I've created a number of them.
I had the worst losing streak I've ever had since joining the site during this challenge, so I'm hunting the medal even more vigorously.

could you check the OP and explain why getting hit by an average tomato would feel like 4.8 on the scale?
I wish either my father or my mother, or indeed both of them as they were in duty both equally bound to it, had minded what they were about when....
If 2 player fog game, please allow 12 hour snap courtesy, or post what I could have seen.... Thank you

So far one player (Awoodness) has qualified. Still 13 hours left to join games, and then two months (max) for all of them to wrap up. I imagine there will be 10 or 12 people who do it.ooge wrote:The challenge may be to see if anyone accomplishes this.

I managed to get a bronze entirely accidentally. Only just noticed it. Cheers guys.

I don't see how he has accomplished the challenge. His tokens are not distributed correctly.Dukasaur wrote:So far one player (Awoodness) has qualified. Not all his tokens count. He has a lot of extras in the golds and silvers that don't count, but the ones that count are enough.shoop76 wrote:I don't see how he has accomplished the challenge. With 24 bronze, only 12 of his silvers count, and with 12 silvers only 4 of his golds count, that that is more than enough.
Double-checked the math just to be sure:
24 bronze = 288,000,000
12 silver = 1,440,000,000
4 gold = 4,800,000,000
subtotal = 6,528,000,000 or 6.528 x 10e9
log10(6.528)=0.814780
log10(10e9)=9
total log = 9.81478 or given the two-digit precision, 9.8.
His score is correct.

Do the silvers need to be counted for the second-order calculations? Are Bronzes even needed?

Yes. Your golds don't count if you don't have 3 silvers for each, and your silvers don't count if you don't have 2 bronzes for each.DoomYoshi wrote:Do the silvers need to be counted for the second-order calculations? Are Bronzes even needed?
Or are you asking if the smaller medals are statistically insignificant in the total? Well, if one has 4 golds that count like in the Awoodness example, then he would qualify for the CA medal without the others. However, someone with only 2 golds would need his silvers and bronzes to cross the line. Also, it's not just about the CAs, of course. For people fighting for the top 5 to get star prizes, one extra bronze might mean the difference between being 5th and being 6th. Finally, one could achieve target with no golds at all, with large enough numbers of bronze and silver.

Then its worded very poorly in my opinion. Also I didn't know that there were still start prizes. I didn't see a mention of that in the OP.Dukasaur wrote:Yes. As far as I know, the star prizes for the Top 5 never change. They're not specifically referenced in each Challenge, but they continue to be handed out, unless I'm mistaken. I'll ask CM14 to confirm.shoop76 wrote:Then its worded very poorly in my opinion. Also I didn't know that there were still start prizes. I didn't see a mention of that in the OP.Dukasaur wrote:Yes. Yes, stars continue to be awarded to the top five finishers on each month's scoreboard. The prize structure was moved into the Monthly Challenges' FAQs thread.Dukasaur wrote:As far as I know, the star prizes for the Top 5 never change. 10.0 on the Richter Scale.
Theldin is looking like only other one to possibly medal. Maybe Bujaber.
