The problem with making things optional is you risk losing players before they can even start. They want to play a real player but none are around the moment they want to start a game. They create a game and it does not fill. They likely never come back to check...iAmCaffeine wrote:You're taking it too far. I don't think restrictions should be set. This site should be bifurcated. The beginners free area where all newcomers start. Set up exactly as Cat suggested. You can play all the classic map bot games you like to understand controls. Maybe add a couple of other maps. After X amount of games they can graduate to the regular site with the promise of real players to play and more options in the style of play. Maybe even have the option of fog, trench, spoils as part of the beginner site. I used to play a MPOG many years ago and everyone started in a beginner area and you had to graduate to the regular site via experience. It made the transition to the more complicated area much easier.

I disagree but, assuming that is the case, all you're doing with this system is delaying the time before they leave because, according to what you've said, by the time they're actually permitted to play against proper players there won't be any around! Then what happens?loutil wrote:The problem with making things optional is you risk losing players before they can even start. Personally, Cat's idea is by far the best I've seen in quite a long time.
Online people want options and don't want to be restricted heavily by what they can/can't do. The excuse that people come here expecting classic Risk doesn't work because none of the fort options on Conquer Club replicate the original board game version, among other things.

As an old player who hasn't played here in a long long time. I'd say port it to the app store.
On numerous ocassions I've wanted to play, but the website is less than desirable and anyway ... who plays on websites nowadays.
If and when CC will be ported to the app store, I'll start playing again...

Re: What can be done to reverse the decline?
I think, as a site, we should focus on filling games. The people that join this site join it to play a game and we should offer that on this site.
Add a few volunteers to fill games.
Add a few volunteers to create and maintain a reasonable amount of open games with user friendly settings.
There are a lot of settings on here that are for the "hard core" CC player. I have learned to deal with them all, but at one point, I stayed away from the usual suspects: freestyle, nuclear, manual, zombie.
Some people just want to come on here and join a game that will fill and play it. The consumer of this site shouldnt have to wait months or years for a game to fill. A consumer shouldnt have to worry about a game where they are being baited for points. After that, players can venture out into the abyss of endless possibilities of game styles.
This site should be clear on what it wants to offer the people who join it and deliver. If you advertise yourself as a risk alternative, you should deliver classic risk first and foremost. There should be easy access to open Classic Map games with classic settings. Kind of like how the Battle Royale games are. A list of basic, ready to play games, ready to be filled. Pay attention to the games that are trending, then offer a few of those games also.
But lets start simple first and fill the games that we have now. If you have an open game in your waiting tab, fill it! Invite people who are also waiting to play that map, or have played it before...and won on it! Hell, if you invite the winners of the past few times that map was played, you have created a little winners tournament!

How would that even work? Filling games is an issue because the membership is decline which in turn means there are less games. Having volunteers to join games doesn't solve that.
Manual, zombie and nuclear aren't hardcore settings, they're mostly luck based.

Re: What can be done to reverse the decline?
One of the main reasons for the decline of all online games is when they bet in Premium Play for better rolls/deals/difficulty.
Now as in the past some dedicated CC die-hard comes bashing, bla bla bla, it's all perception, bla bla bla, your stats are 3.5, bla bla bla... Which is bs. The dice comparison is absurdly lopsided. Then they normalize in other instances leading to an apparently normal 3.5.
Pointing the fact that I programmed and that it's piece of cake to ponder the feed from random.org will just be pointless as well. Someone will be patronizing "hahaha, conspiracy".

When I want to play a game of Risk, I have to go to my browser, get to the website, log in. go to the game where I can take my turn. Trying not to get lost in a shitty menu trying to take my turn. Getting all overheated cause I have to scroll back and forth trying to find te right place to deploy, in the meanwhile internet explorer fails on me. switching to Firefox or safari, also fails...
I can also open the "game of ware fire age" app 200 times a day with only one click, play 5 minutes close is, do something else play again, take a shit and check again.
Long story short: this is the time of app, less entertaining games score better cause they are more easy accesible, if CC can't handle changing/more moderne circumstances it can better take its place in the museum next to the Dinosaur... I do not wish to be a pain in the neck because I have Always been proud to be a MH and wish to do so in the near future.
CC doesn't even get a decent hit when typing in Conquerclub wiki. Come on people get a grip on the present!
Re: What can be done to reverse the decline?
Think about it, if you had never been here before, what you are probably going to do is join or create a game. Once you do join a game, it never fills and you lose confidence in the site. If you want to reverse the decline, you have to reestablish confidence in your "product". Start simple.iAmCaffeine wrote:How would that even work? Its easy to criticize an idea but you will never know what the outcome will be unless you actually implement and carry out your plan. Maybe it works, maybe it doesnt, but at least an effort was made to fix it.
We can talk about how to fix the problem until we are blue in the face but it wont solve anything.
Im also with the post below about the app. CC needs to get with the times. Having a decent app on the app store isnt going to accelerate the decline.

But I think the solution is by deleting automatically waiting game after a defined time - 1 year is definitely too long -, auto drop player that didn't log into CC for and change the "join games" page which is terribly useless.

Re: What can be done to reverse the decline?
The whole site needs simplifying. There are more settings & maps than regular players, or so it feels. Go back to day 1 & get an app built based with simple settings. With the money generated from there start developing real functionality. Stop pissing about with 'Other games' n whatever other nonsense you roll out.

Re: What can be done to reverse the decline?
I plus 1'd that suggestion too. There really should be an auto drop for inactive players.Donelladan wrote:I totally agree with you.Think about it, if you had never been here before, what you are probably going to do is join or create a game. Re: What can be done to reverse the decline?
well back in 2009 my wife wanted to join with me but only to play doubles games.
so i explained to the mods at the time as we were sharing a connection, but only played together as doubles partners.
then with no explanation we were both kicked and all our games, including my individual games that did not include her and branded cheats. So we both left the game, i have just recently rejoined with a new name, but my wife will not play on here anymore.
I realise cheating should be frowned upon, but that was not the case with us, i guess we were accused of being a multi, but we never played in the same individual game.
in short too many rules and too many egos always looking for new victims to persecute, and noobs were fair game.
Whether things have improved or not i will tell soon. I did not like the bad language used in the forums either.

It's currently taking me from 30s to 2mins just to assault or fort. So much fun when you have over 200 games.

Owen is referring to you having two accounts, whether you can remember how to access the old one or not. Wouldnt worry, if it ever came up no mod would ban you for it.
It may be best to send a pm to KingAchilles letting him know the situation so that its closed off now rather than later.

well, actually, he said he was kicked from all his games and that was it... so, it seems like he was perma-banned and just joined again with a new name after a lengthy time away... however, yes, he should contact king A or a mod to get this dealt with, el pronto...-Jésus noirWingCmdr Ginkapo wrote:Owen is referring to you having two accounts, whether you can remember how to access the old one or not.
