Edit: I have removed the post by Twill made in 2006 that may have put users off the track. But all other merged posts will remain are they are either in relation to membership subscriptions or deviated to that topic.

if i buy a membership for yourself the only way you get a $29.00 price is if i go onto auto renew wow this really sucks

if i just buy a membership for myself i have to buy credits and it will cost the same as a gift membership for $39.00

This is an excellent business strategy! may i suggest when/if big wham does return, he place this at the top of the cc home page.

well, i hope he don't run off any more of my cc friends with these steep price increases. i've already lost enough friends due to various other issues.

but maybe he thinks he will get more new guys than he will lose old guys, and he don't care about my current cc friends. i don't know. but it used to be fun to log in, check games, read pm's and our clan forum. now i only come here pretty much out of habit because all of that other stuff went dry. when i change my life habit, this site will probably take a backseat as well.

He cannot be making much off the site by this point. He is presumably hoping that the people he loses because of it (which I think will be few, $30/year is still a reasonable price) are made up for by the additional premium revenue.

i thought it was $39 if you use the tokens. and would only stay at $30 if you sign up for the auto-pay. which probably half of credit card users know is a trap and will not sign up for that.

i'm just going off of what i've read in this thread. or one of the other threads.

EDIT; yep. i just checked for myself. it's a scam. recurring membership to buy it for the 30 dollar price. what a fucking joke. if you want to buy it non-recurring you have to pay with tokens. to buy the excact amount you will need to pay 39 dollars. so much for a quality site with long term members. this will only favor people playing in little 3 month spurts. be real hard to keep a long term thriving community like this. oh well. it was good while it lasted.

recurring is for suckers. it' preys on people who are unorganized and will not moniter their credit card statement after they impulse charge for a month of cc and play 5 games then leave. good for big wham, bad for my perception of his practices. some people like it, but most sites understand that some don't so they also offer a non-recurring option. unfortunately conquer clubs next option is 10 bucks more (30%). i'll never sign up for a recurring anything. and no matter how affordable 40 dollars a year is, it's just silly to pay that for a gaming site.

basically, you can support this option all you want, but i see it damaging the forum and active community tremendously. the boss may benefit from it, but the site will suck.

you got in before my response, but my point is, he's doing this because he knows folks will not cancel. to me that's shady. people will be paying for cc years after they logged in, and that's where he'll make his money.

Confederate, there are many many other ways to get credit besides buying them... join the society of super guides and be an active member gets me 200 credits a month, use your stars to enter auto tournaments that offer credits as prizes. Plus it may be an intial $39 or 40 if you are one of the few with 0 credits to start with, but you will have credits left over after the purchase.. Those credits do not disappear but stay in your CC bank account, so future purchases cost less.

1. Gifting someone premium from your account is roughly $35, which is $5 more for why?
2. Even at the higher rate, one has to buy a bunch of credits at more than $35; and that is very inconvenient, especially for members who are not seeking to go the credits route.

Yea, I just did it in the account. But as I was exploring it through paypal just now, I didn't like that it said 'agree and continue.' That typically means that there is another screen. It should say 'make payment' or something to that effect. Now, I paid for a premium 4 months early when that was not my intent.

Edit: But it added the 12 months to the time that I have already bought (rather than just restart the 12 months); so, I'll live with it.

Actually it isn't. They are both 3500 credits. At the moment the only way to gift membership is through credits. if there is enough people request subscription gifting then I am sure wham will price match current subscription prices.

Gifting memberships has always been an extremely low form of revenue for CC and I am sure that BW did not expect this reaction. Plus these prices have been in place for months and it is only now there is an uproar about it shows that it is a small minority affected.
