Re: U.S. Election (2014 version)
Why do we need to do this when Nate Silver is already on the job
Re: U.S. Election (2014 version)

Re: U.S. Election (2014 version)
what is the difference between:
the Republicans will capture the Senate, but lose the House of Representatives
and
the Democrats will lose the Senate, but capture the House of Representatives
the Republicans will capture the Senate, but lose the House of Representatives
and
the Democrats will lose the Senate, but capture the House of Representatives
taking a break from cc, will be back sometime in the future.

Re: U.S. Election (2014 version)
Yes, that is a problem in general. The chances of getting laid as a result of the American elections is rather non existent. No one wants to give anything even close to a f*ck. But never the less I will carry on. Would you like some leaflets on the candidates in my area? Perhaps a nice Republican can cooler as well? How about placing this sign on your lawn. Well thank you very much and have a nice day.Dukasaur wrote:Who gives a f*ck about your stupid American elections?

Been there, done that. I wasted quite a few years of my life in politics.tzor wrote:Yes, that is a problem in general. Actually, I was briefly involved in your area (and by area, I mean within 150 miles or so, which you probably don't really consider your area, but no matter.) Late in 1979 I was staying in Bucks county, PA, when Dave Walter was running for County Commissioner. I was a pretty fanatical Libertarian in those days; would work for candidates anywhere, anytime, even while I was on vacation in a foreign country, lol. So I spent a few days handing out leaflets for Dave.
Winter coming, wind was so fucking cold, and there I am. I have one hot pussy waiting for me back in Fort Erie, I have another one waiting for me in California, and here I am in buttfuck Pennsylvania, with frost forming on my face, handing out leaflets for someone who knows he'll be lucky to finish 3rd. Oh, the idealism of youth, lol.
Don't know if you know anything about Libertarian politics. Dave Walter eventually became really important on the scene, became Chair of the Libertarian National Committee. Maybe still is, for all I know. I don't follow politics any more.

You live out in the fourth district right? I'm thoroughly amused that Newsday endorsed Rice in your district and Zeldin in mine.tzor wrote:Yes, that is a problem in general. Re: U.S. Election (2014 version)
Wasting years, experiencing deja vu every year (because local elections are on odd years) can be kind of ... well pointless.Dukasaur wrote:Been there, done that. I wasted quite a few years of my life in politics.
Someone got me in committee work a number of years back (but I have since forgiven him) and the biggest things were petition drives and poll watching.
Fortunately, with the advent of modern computer machines, we don't have to wait to get the numbers from when the polling places close, because the official numbers arrive faster than the poll watchers do.
This year, on the other hand, was a chance to see the celebrities. Allan West had a book signing for the candidate and I also got to see the House Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House.

I purposely did not vote today. I received so many calls from candidates that I decided I would support no one.

Due to the strong influence in government, economy, and culture, should Canadians have a vote in US politics?

Sorry. Canadian forms of identification are not strong enough to be accepted at the ballot boxes.notyou2 wrote:Due to the strong influence in government, economy, and culture, should Canadians have a vote in US politics?

Technically Obama has a hold on the White House ...saxitoxin wrote:But the Democrats still have a hold on the White House ...
Much to the annoyance of Democrats who support Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Hold on to your seats, it's going to be a rough ride for the next two years.
Sorry, they had their chance back when we were under the Articles of Confederation ...notyou2 wrote:Due to the strong influence in government, economy, and culture, should Canadians have a vote in US politics?
I suppose we could give you a non voting delegate like we did with the District of ColumbiaCanada acceding to this confederation, and adjoining in the measures of the United States, shall be admitted into, and entitled to all the advantages of this Union; but no other colony shall be admitted into the same, unless such admission be agreed to by nine States.
But really, what proper Canadian would ever want to work in the festering snake pit of Modor on the Potomac? In the United States House of Representatives, the District is represented by a delegate, who is not allowed to vote on the House floor but can vote on procedural matters and in congressional committees. D.C. residents have no representation in the United States Senate.

We could send you Harper. He is not very well liked here, and he is a snake.

Re: U.S. Election (2014 version)
i voted for mostly 3rd party. I even voted for a guy that died in an accident a few weeks ago. I figured that was still a better option then the 2 main candidates that were running.
So republicans have control of the house and senate now...what exactly does anyone expect to change? the blame will now just be tweaked to the current situation? President Obama will now just issue more executive orders while the democrats blame the republicans for not working with him to pass legislation? If things get worse, the Democrats will blame the Republicans (since they won control of the house and senate). The Republicans will now start referring to President Obama as an "obstructionist" (like the democrats called the republicans in the House the last few years). The Republicans will try and shift some spending, but spend just as much? Maybe they try and impeach President Obama? Repeal Obamacare? What is the Republican plan anyway?
