I was not suggesting that at all. I stated that, not being a freestyle player, I'm rather ignorant to what transpired.iAmCaffeine wrote: +1
I see more sequential players trying to say how freestyle isn't dead. Please learn from the other 576 people that have done that and failed.

That wasn't a dig at you mate, I generally agree with what you're saying. Not so long ago I tried to get support behind my suggestion to unlock settings but it eventually died, just like all similar suggestions before that.Butters1919 wrote:I was not suggesting that at all. Out of the new settings I think no forts is completely pointless and zombie isn't necessary, but for some reason the boffins up top think new settings are the way to attract new players, who will most likely have searched for risk.

Re: The "Less is More" Idea - What Options Should be Elimina
soooo what's the big problem with unfilled games?
I don't see how that "problem" is big enough to take away game options that many players enjoy.
There are other things that can be done besides taking game options away.

aaaaand, someone has come late to the party... wow... nothing, there is nothing wrong with it all... nothing to see here... the great decline is not happening right before our eyes (under 10K users now, lost a little over 40 this week alone)... nothing is wrong with the bloated options and the rules that killed off freestyle... nah, just keep playing until it all shuts down... no need to discuss... let's all go back in our mommies basements and play on the internets... jeez...-el Jesus negroJPlo64 wrote:soooo what's the big problem with unfilled games?

Basements are damp and cold unless they are located too close to the Sun; therefore, the black jesus is infallibly invalid.

Remove some of the clutter from the start/find a game pages. Put it somewhere that can be found by players who are actually interested in it.
Make a list of 'suggested maps' or something (which could be cycled) so as to not overwhelm people.
Even after 8000 games on this site, I find the start a game page intimidating.

If Nietzsche sleepwalks in a forest and no one is around to hear him, does he make a sound?

I think the new interface should be eliminated. Its so cluttered and ugly. Map inspect is probably the most useless think I have ever seen implemented, and I have noticed the stars.

Cut:
Games larger than 8 players.
Polymorphic
90% of the maps
Freestyle
Zombie and nuclear spoils
Parachute reinforcement
Round limits
Keep:
Trench, because the original RISK boardgame is mostly played using trench and is familiar to new users.
Terminator, because it sort of exists in the original boardgame's settings.
Assassin, -----||-----
Team games, for the social jazz.
Manual deployment, part of the original boardgame's settings.
Speed games, because not everyone wants to wait a day for their next turn.
Fog of war, even though it's not something that is part of the original settings of the boardgame it has worked very well and is easy to learn. Most popular extra setting on the site.

I think , Parachute, Trench, Poly etc add an extra dimension to gameplay and should be left in situ. What I would do is get rid of that stupid Chat window that is infuriating and slows game play, ad more capacity to the servers as gameplay is getting slower hence the reason for many leaving and most importantly announce in dvance any proposed changes so that feeback is obtained prior to making any change. I gave serious thought about renewing last week but here I am - not a fan of the chat window not a fan of change for change sake - an advocate of good communication !!!
My advice - obtain the consensus of your players BEFORE you make radical change. CC could regain top spot but you need to improve the speed of play by investing in faster servers.

cutting freestyle is redundant... what's worse, it's the most interactive and entertaining setting there is or was...

Inherently there is no problem with unfilled games, if we had enough active members to eventually fill them. We don't. Right now there are 76 games on the Classic Map waiting to be filled (I used standard, escalating, sequential, no fog, no trench). The oldest one, Game 13841877 is almost one million games old. Consolidate, fill games more quickly, and folks are happier. I don't join games (of the type I just searched) unless there are only 1 or 2 slots open so that I know that the game will start either immediately or in the (hopefully) near future.

The only changes I have is cutting 90% of the maps may be unnecessary, lets start with like 75% and go from there, we could always cut more in a few months or something. Also maybe leave freestyle and just revert the most recent changes that Black Jesus keeps going on about. I don't like it and don't play it but it used to be very popular back in the day and probably would be again if it was un-killed.
