Well, okay, I see what you're all saying and I'm sorry I went off. It's just, well, gimil was talking about removing Hadrian's Wall and changing things around and revamping the graphics and I was like, seeing horrible things going on... sorry.
So, listen, how does this work? Because there's one complaint I've always had about the Tamriel map. That is, you can hold Hammerfell, Skyrim, and Summerset Isle with just three borders, for an army bonus of 13, not counting the territories. That's nuts, especially since each Hammerfell and Skyrim are each others' natural expansion points, and two of those borders are on continents that are difficult to hold. I always thought you could balance it out by adding an extra border in from Sancre Tor to Fang Lair. So if I said that, would you consider contacting the creator and opening a revision proposal? It's one thing that's always annoyed me about that map, which otherwise I really enjoy playing.

... Thank you.
Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

my new site - http://www.spritestitch.com/ - A video game craft weblog...
yeah its still got things to fix...attack routes, bridges, etc and rock solid wasnt happy with the realism of some of the borders...so theres still tons of things to fix. just showing that I had been working on it...

johloh, could you try a different style?
i have nothing against your maps but they remind me of lux delux. they have this style of maps with satelite images and highlited parts

I have been working with RockSolid for over a week. Here are my initial drafts of the large and small.
RockSolid has specific requirements:
keeping the colors the same for both the lakes water and the territories.
No army circles
He wants the feel of the map to be the same just touched up and updated.
He was very specific about maintaining the borders of teh territories to be as close as possible to the actual municipalities.
Changes:
We talked about the 4 way corners and adjusted them to his liking.
EDIT: Here are the updated versions
Large

Small

I still need to update the XML

Mmmm....we have two very different maps here for Montreal revamp and both are very good.
From my personal perspective there are more elements in Johlohs' map that i prefer than WMs'....it is much easier on the eyes both in font and colours....but some of the names placement need to be tidied i think. While I recognise it is quite like San Fran map, it is still much easier on my eyes anyway. Good work all

* Pearl Harbour * Waterloo * Forbidden City * Jamaica * Pot Mosbi
Haven't been around these parts in almost a year, so I'm a little out of touch with all this...
Hmm...an unfortunate miscommunication, from the looks of it. Johloh sent me his last draft a donkey's age ago, and when I replied voicing a lot of objections I had to elements of it, he didn't respond - that was about a month ago. I figured he was fed up with my requests for changes, and I assumed he abandoned the map. I mentioned this to Keyogi, which is how WidowMakers got involved, who had done excellent work on my other map (Circus Maximus).
Since then, WM's done some great work on Montreal, and I'm very happy with his version. Not to cast aspersions on Johloh's efforts, but I feel that WM's is far closer to being a revamp of the original map; Johloh's is a recasting (in the mould of San Francisco) rather than a revamping. WM's also gone to great pains to pay attention to detail (his borders follow the actual city borders, etc). At least half of the territory borders in Johloh's version need to be redrawn to be true to life.
There are still a couple of points where WM and I disagree - I wanted to keep the gameplay the same, while he wanted the intersecting borders to be less ambiguous - but that is material for a foundry thread, as I figured his opinion would be more popular than mine on that issue. But as far as which version I'd like to see go forward, I'm in favour of WM's.

Sorry about all the confusion and misunderstanding. All this stuff with the Montreal Revamp was happening at the same time as I was winding down my CC duties in readiness for my short vacation. I forgot to add WidowMakers to the nominated cartographers list for Montreal and it all got out of hand from there.
Now, I'll have to discuss the matter with Andy, but there has been no response from the original cartographers of Canada and Indochina. Once the details have been sorted out, perhaps we can get these revamps finally started as well.

Well if it sucks so bad, please go to the official revamp thread and give me your comments. Just saying it sucks does not provide any helpful criteria to further the process.Unit_2 wrote:no offense widow, but your map sucks... but johloh's looks very good.
P.S. Telling me my map sucks is probably not the best way to get me to help you draw your map either.
