On the beta site (you may have updated in the meantime), I think I noticed a couple of messed up xml entries. You could easily test this (like I did) by mousing over the territs with BOB on and see if there are any "bombards" or "bombarded by" entries, as opposed to "mutual bombardment."

Anyway, Santa Ana Stern bombards San Buenaventura and is bombarded by Urca Doncella. San Cristobal Bow is bombarded by San Juan Bautista. All of these should be mutual bombardment.

Cool map again cairns. I'm enjoying this one.

This map is one of my favorites on the entire site. The strategy is different depending on the format you are playing. When you have it figured out, it's a good map to use for "home" games. I love being able to eliminate players without having to kill the treasury troops. That is a unique feature on this map that makes it very appealing to me.

If there was a negative concern it would be in area of access or travel around the map. In Assassin games in particular, your target could be located quite a distance from you, with no good route to him.

what i like: this map is fun to play blind with so many different starting ships it makes it fun trying to find which of them is neutral and not...
what i dislike: this map needs number of territory bonus like most maps have...with all the neutral territories starting so large it is unpleasant dropping 8 men with 30 territories owned

Very interesting map indeed.

Glad the monthlies turned my head towards it.

I like the extreme complexity and the very delicate balancing. - The way you can go after a good (auto) deploy but then have rather a lot of trouble bringing them into play and risk losing it all if you are attacked sneakily before you are ready. - And that it amounts to a number of almost random possibilities where you have to juggle security, availability of troops and a number of specially available routes through the map if you can manage to navigate cleverly and especially also manage not to get in your own way.

I think the balancing of deploy is an important factor and wouldnt change that. - I do get the same feeling of dropping a very limited amount compared to how much Ive clawed under my greasy fingernails, but upping the bonus values would deduct from the importance of the treasury and I feel that would be a shame.

Monthly challenge requires something I dont like about the map, but Im pressed to find one. Lets see, it wouldnt work so well with unlimited reinforcements as that would sort of work against one of the main balances in the map, but beyond that, this could well be one of my go to maps.

Very nicely done. =D>

Quality map - dropping 2 player to 4 ships works really well and allows great surprises in fog

Not tried multiplayer but will soon

I think I would lessen the numbers of neutrals at the top of the map - that would add a greater variety to gameplay imho

love the map and the game play. i think there is a slight advantage to the one starting on Penzance LB to take the beacons. there is a counterweight bonus with de Parma area but one needs to take more neutrals and will be able to utilise the bonus much later than the beacon bonus.

haven't played much but i am already an enthuiast!

I played the maps a couples of times.
Gameplay is OK. Not really my kind of map because it take too long to clean it with the huge amount of troops everyone gets but this is just personal taste. I don't think changes are necessary for the gameplay.

I am just wondering, is it supposed to be a battle naval? Because it doenst look like it at all. I don't understand why you made the map that way. What are the impassable blues lines?
Is it impassable water for our boats?

I am not so aware of the history of this battle. Was it that much covered with boats? Are we actually jumping from boat to another?

between santa cruz and santa ana stern are urca doncella and santa marta. according to the legend, santa cruz bombards as far as santa marta, but the xml wrongly allows it to bombard santa ana stern. at least, this is v45, which is the currently-playable version.

Code: Select all
<territory>
   <name>Santa Cruz</name>
   <borders>
      <border>Dreadnought</border>
      <border>Paloma Blanca</border>
      <border>Urca Doncella</border>
   </borders>
   <bombardments>
      <bombardment>Hope</bombardment>
      <bombardment>PTL(A)</bombardment>
      <bombardment>PTL(C)</bombardment>
      <bombardment>El Gran Grin</bombardment>
      <bombardment>El Sanson</bombardment>
      <bombardment>Santa Marta</bombardment>
      <bombardment>Santa Ana Stern</bombardment>
      <bombardment>San Buenaventura</bombardment>
   </bombardments>
   <coordinates>
      <smallx>262</smallx>
      <smally>457</smally>
      <largex>298</largex>
      <largey>507</largey>
   </coordinates>
   <neutral>3</neutral>
</territory>

i would still like to see some minor and easy to fix graphic changes.
For ex. Don Diego Medrano,Capitania,Bazana and Diana Icons have a deformation. Something went wrong when u resized the original.

Then i would like to see a different beacon icon. That would be an extreme improve of quality on your map design, taking it to a next level of beauty
(i know you did it yourself and u worked on it, but they dont look nice in the overall look of the map wich i like)

I find the bonus regions on this map a little irrelevant compared to the drops on the treasury. In the games I have played they really don't play much of a role. In my opinion consideration should be given to increase the bonus values - making it less likely for players to stack from the treasury and more of a necessity to break the bonus regions. This is my only real issue/concern with the map - apart from that I am really enjoying this one. It's big with plenty of different gameplay options - each game is very different. Good job :-)

As far as the legend is concerned every territory can bombard up to 2 field away... Santa Cruz has 3. That is the bug.
And yes I'm getting hammered every turn because of it :D, so delete that extra XML line fast :)

I don't know where the mind was on my last post... :roll:

Here is the fix in the xml that deletes Santa Ana Stern from bombardment from Santa Cruz...check it and get it to a mod for uploading :)

Apologies.
