If I ran another tournament with a similar format as this, what would you change?

4-player instead of 3-player games, so there are less winners per map each round.

With just 22 games of Round 1 remaining active, we are now three quarters of the way through the first round of games (I must stress that the number of games each player has completed does vary rather greatly, though). So far, 39 of the 45 players in the tournament have managed to get their name on the scoreboard, with most players hovering around the 2 to 3 wins region, which should be the case, as the expected number of wins for an average player is 2.67 wins.

But that doesn't mean certain players haven't separated themselves from the pack - Godd, who has been in the lead for the entire tournament, still remains in the lead as the only player with 5 wins thus far. Close behind him are five players with 4 wins apiece - alaskanassassin, iAmCaffeine, overlander, Scorned Woman and Tin Trumpet.

That said, there still are 22 games to be completed, and 22 more wins on the scoreboard can cause lots of changes to happen.

Also, I intend to change the tiebreaker rules. A PM will be sent out to all players at the end of Round 1 if that does happen, as I know most people don't follow tournament threads anyway.

I move up to the list of those with FOUR...:)

And indeed you do! But while all that was happening...

Update

The entire scoreboard has changed pretty dramatically.

The number of players with 4 wins apiece still stands as before, with 5 players. The thing is, only 2 of them are the same as we saw before - iAmCaffeine and Tin Trumpet. New to the group with 4 wins are Dukasaur (as seen above), deanof7 and D-Rock42. Maybe having your username start with a 'D' has something to do with it...

Meanwhile, 3 others join Godd at the rung with 5 wins each - alaskanassassin, Scorned Woman and osok68, who rises by 2 wins up from 3 wins.

But perhaps the most exciting news is that for the first time in the tournament, we have a new leader! overlander leapfrogs over Godd to take the lead as the sole player standing at 6 wins currently. The only other player who can hope to achieve this feat within the first round is Scorned Woman, who is still battling it out in the Arctic circle.

And now for some random trivia:
  • Antarctica is the only map that all 5 players in the top 5 have won on.
  • Asia / Far East is the map that eludes the most of them - only osok68 has won on it.

Update

Round 1 games are almost all complete - just a single game on Arctic still remains in contention, and that will probably reach the round limit for the winner to be decided.

The scoreboard is up to date, and as we can see, 2 players lead the pack of 45 with 6 map wins each. But with Round 2 games coming up soon, the tables can certainly turn. Anyone can come from behind and take a whopping number of map wins and take the tournament as well!

I'll also be changing the tiebreaker rules - players who win on all 8 maps in the same round will play against each other on all 8 maps, with the player who wins on the most maps being the tournament champion. This change is being implemented because I don't think the number of rounds to finish off the game is a good representation of comparative skill, especially when the skill level of each opponent faced can vary drastically.

PMs with the rule change and the first set of Round 2's games will be sent out shortly.

Update

Well, I'm mostly done fighting the fire that came when I sent out Set 2 of Round 2... So it's time for a nice update.

First up - kkoliver has failed to join his games after repeated reminders and invites; waauw appears to have left the site; hagardunor has deadbeated out of his games. All 3 of them will be removed from the tournament, and will NOT be replaced. All following rounds will only have 14 games for each map (this won't affect the gameplay).

And after one and a half rounds of games, we see more and more players climbing up the scoreboard. Nobody has broken the 7 map threshold, but the number of leaders with 6 map wins has expanded from a mere 2 players to 7 players! Out of these, just 2 still stand a chance to cover all 8 maps by the end of Round 2, while 1 player's score won't have a chance to increase during Set 2.

Still lots of things can happen!

I'll probably win on Arctic, again, so it won't do me any favours here. :p

Update

The dust settles as another round comes to a close. While the end of Round 1 saw most players crowded at 3 or 4 wins apiece with something closer to normal distribution, the end of Round 2 sees players weighted at the top of the scoreboard.

The mean number of wins is 4.45, the median is 5, and the mode is 6. That just goes to show how many players are now clustered at 6 wins apiece - 15 players now can claim to have that score, up from 2 in Round 1, and 7 after the first set of Round 2.

But that's not all - we finally have a player who now stands at 1 win away from completing the set of 8! pittsburgh00 earns his 7th map win, putting him at striking distance to take the title. Of course, since the entire sequence of maps has to be played for Round 3, the win is still open to anyone.

Update

With just 10 games of Round 3 left ongoing, we already have 2 players who have won on all 8 maps - D-Rock42 and overlander.

Of those who have yet to achieve the 8 map wins, only 2 still stand a chance to collect them all. ganguscalm fights his last battle on Asia, while iAmCaffeine attempts to navigate through a stalemate on Oceania.

As per the change in the rules, the players who achieve the 8 map wins within the same round will be pitted against each other in games on all 8 maps. The player that wins the most games out of this final set of 8 games will be declared the winner of the tournament.

Update

All games in Round 3 are now complete. No further players managed to achieve wins on all 8 maps since the previous update. As such, D-Rock42 and overlander are now playing a series of 8 1v1 games on all maps to determine the winner of the tournament!

Update

The dust has settled over each continent (and Arctic circle) of the world, with overlander coming out victorious over D-Rock42 in 6 out of the 8 head-to-head battles.

He raced to an early start in Round 1, clearing 6 out of the 8 maps in the first round alone. While his efforts to seal the deal in Round 2 came up short (though he did win 4 games in Round 2), he finally managed to do the deed in Round 3, as the 5 games he won included 2 on the last map regions he required - South America and Asia.

Having successfully planted his flag and making his mark in all 8 regions, overlander emerges as the winner of the tournament!

CONGRATULATIONS OVERLANDER!
