And what a comeback by the atletico mineiro in the libertadores! Happy for ronnie. If you look at the entire scenarii for the CAM during this libertadores it s absolutely crazy. Each round was passed on the last minute with incredible comebacks. In the end they lift the trophy!
I don t think there s a lot of players on earth that won a champion s league, a libertadores and a world cup... Well done ronnie!

Re: Football (real)
I know that's the Champions League. I'm not talking about international/champions league. I was referring to the Domestic Leagues (French and German Leagues as I said I have very little knowledge of this is more directed at the weakness of the English/UK leagues we are not exposed to them unless you really care ), which Man U does run through yearly, with the occasional 2nd tier teams i.e. Chelsea, Arsenal, and I guess maybe Man City? Man U is on a pedestal on their own at the top.betiko wrote:that's what's called champion's league. if for some reason espn or whatever only buys tv rights for the premiership, don't start asking europe to change and create something that has been existing for over 60 years. Ask ESPN to provide you with the champion's league. Out of the last 10 seasons, you have 8 different winners, and barcelona is the only one with several titles (3). All other clubs only won it once. So manchester united that you perceive as completely dominating football is an ilusion from the other side of the pond.
We make the competitions that suit us best here, not foreign markets. The stadiums are filled with people living locally and the TV rights are mostly coming from domestic televisions. A league tells you who is the best in regularity, a cup who can realize the best one time performance.
You guys mix both in US sports, and at the end of the day the league (regular season) has no value. the cup (playoffs) is what counts the most.
For us, the league is what counts the most. a cup is separate, pretty cool to win but no way as prestigious.
I'd be interested to know who finished first in regular season in a US sport and the % that end up winning the title. I personally think that it's unfair to get so little reward for being the best during the whole year. there is just no incentive to watch the regular season of a US sport. just watch playoffs, regular season is completely useless.
ps: oh also I wanted to give you the example of the french league. 10 clubs have won the league in the past 20 years, apart from Lyon that won 7 titles straight in the 2000s (a record in european major leagues to win 7 domestic championships straight) no other team has managed to get back to back titles in over 20 years. This is somehow a sign of weakeness.
Personally I care less, as does most of the States about foreign soccer typically unless your foreign, as I said with the exception of a singular cup all domestic leagues are very uncompetitive. That would be like our Major League Baseball or National Basketball being very uncompetitive until we play Internationally. Well for us its the opposite, our domestic leagues provide our players better competitions than international teams do in basketball and baseball, and real American football is really only played competitively in the states.

It's a shame to see Panama, a team which was playing attractive football the whole tournament, devolve into 11-in-the-box in the final.

Christian Benitez, Ecuatorian football player died today in Qatar due to a heart attack.
Christian Benitez was a crack. To be playing in Mexico that is. It was the main reason my team Club America won the last title.
He was supposed to go to Europe, and he had some offers but in Qatar they offered more money.

£85 million and Di Maria, take it or leave it.nietzsche wrote:Says on Marca.com (so it's probably 10% truth, 90% smoke) that RM is making a last effort to get Bale. Maybe if Higuain leaves another striker in case Benzema gets injured but if we get Bale then we'd need to sell Di Maria or Ozil.

Spurs should've signed Benitez and he wouldn't have been dead, because I expect the doctors are better there.nagerous wrote:£85 million and Di Maria, take it or leave it.nietzsche wrote:Says on Marca.com (so it's probably 10% truth, 90% smoke) that RM is making a last effort to get Bale. Re: Football (real)
Thing is, in the one season spurs were in the CL they earned in excess of 50m. So 85m could be earned just by getting back there for a couple of years.
Given the signings being made, and the fact that they would struggle to bring in comparable talent without the lure of CL football, you'd actually have a pretty strong business argument for not selling, particularly as RM are now saying if they don't get Bale they will go for Suarez, which would weaken Liverpool, deny Arsenal their current top target, and keep the Spurs team intact...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed he stays where he is but I'm not actually that hopeful - it's very hard to turn down money like that (for the club) or an opportunity like that (for the player)

I don't like the way it's being done, it's more like an obsession of Florentino Perez.
Furthermore, they are creating a crack in the relationship between Bale in the Spurs fans. Bale should leave Spurs (if he does) in a better way.
Bale is a great player but they are pricing him in 145M euros, that's inflated.

Re: Football (real)
There's no cracks in the Bale-Spurs fan relationship if Bale doesn't come out and say he wants to leave. We can understand and tolerate silence when everything is unsure (how would he look if he said "I don't want to leave" and then ends up moving because RM meet Spurs' valuaton).
We don't want to sell so any valuation is going to be inflated. If you had a 1000 dollar car that you loved and some guy came up to you and offered you 1000 dollars for it, why would you sell? You'd end up with a car you probably wouldn't like so much that's worth the same, the hassle of finding a new car, etc. If the same stranger offered you 5000 dollars for it tho, you might be more willing to sell...

Re: Football (real)
If we can secure Soldado and hang onto Bale, CL football should be a cert. We have been truely fucked over the last couple of seasons, 1 point behind Arsenal last year on the final day, and the year before 4th ahead of Chelsea, who stole our qualification spot by actually winning the Champions League.crispybits wrote:Thing is, in the one season spurs were in the CL they earned in excess of 50m. I can see Chelsea challenging for the title this year and Man U faltering early with Man C grabbing it if their new signings perform well.
Arsenal have talked big money but not spent it at all so at this point I can't see them offering much challenge.

Re: Football (real)
RM need to give up on Bale for now, buy Suarez (only 50 mil) and end the speculation.
No one knows how you can even afford to pay the Bale price tag when you're still not done paying us for Modric.

Despite Arsenal not signing anyone, I doubt Spurs will get top 4 this season. They do stand a good chance at winning the Europa League though. They would've won it last year if Bale hadn't been injured for the Basel return game.

United 2-0 Wigan
Ok wasn't exactly an exciting match but at least Moyes did the business.
His first ever trophy after years in management but first competitive match as Man United manager
Hope they continue to "confuse and frustrate" that fat scouse tit Wazza too...
On the Bale issue, the $1000 car simile (comparison? analogy?) sums it up beautifully! I'd say take the money but Levy seems to know his business and, as others have said, the fans don't seem too concerned either way, trusting in their chairman to do the right thing, so it's down to Real to "make them an offer they can't refuse".
I thought Spurs were damned unlucky not to hit top 4 last year, they play as a team more often than Arsenal who raised a few eyebrows with their strong finish to the season.
United for Prem, FA Cup, League Cup & CL

On Bale the Spanish ITK journos that filter through into the British press were saying that RM had given Spurs a deadline of 10th August to accept the deal or they were turning to different targets. lets hope that info was accurate and they are true to their word.

Bale wants to play for RM and RM wants Bale, it should be as easy as that.crispybits wrote:On Bale the Spanish ITK journos that filter through into the British press were saying that RM had given Spurs a deadline of 10th August to accept the deal or they were turning to different targets. lets hope that info was accurate and they are true to their word.
And I like having stars at RM, watching Zidane surrounded by other galacticos was amazing. But this time doesn't feel right.

Except that last year Bale signed a contract to Spurs saying he would play for them for 4 more years and they rightly want compensation matching their valuation of his worth to them if they are to lose one of the best players in the world right now. Just because RM wants and Bale wants doesn't mean RM gets and Bale gets. I want to go to bed in 5 minutes with whoever is playmate of the year this year but I don't get to....

I hate it when Real Madrid sign stars I like because Real Madrid has a knack for ruining careers. They are the ManCity of Spain, only that they have been doing it for a lot longer.nietzsche wrote:Bale wants to play for RM and RM wants Bale, it should be as easy as that.crispybits wrote:On Bale the Spanish ITK journos that filter through into the British press were saying that RM had given Spurs a deadline of 10th August to accept the deal or they were turning to different targets. lets hope that info was accurate and they are true to their word.

Despite him not getting to play CL, I think he's well off staying at Spurs. United or Dortmund would be even better, but that won't happen because neither teams pay ridiculous amounts on players.
