The idea for this tournament came to me while I was having one of my "What would the world be like if....." moments.
Yes, my mind thinks up very strange and scary situations. Don't worry, my therapist assures me it's quite natural
Anyways, here's the premise of "Out of the Ashes"
The year is 2025. In 2013, a very deadly version of the European sweating sickness swept across the face of the Earth, killing off everyone but a small fraction of humanity. The super-plague reached everywhere, even into third-world countries where diseases and infections don't normally get to. The sweating sickness was incredibly nasty and efficient, killing people within 72 hours of being infected. Before they too succumbed to the disease, experts at the CDC has ventured guesses into the disease actually having originated in the middle of Africa.
The remainder of humanity eventually grouped together again in some of the cities and regions of the world, after the sickness seemed to have worn itself out. Each of the 16 population centers eventually began governing themselves individually, though still keeping in contact with each other. In the past year, each of the centers agreed on the creation of a new United Nations, a peaceful body of representatives that in theory would meet multiple times a year to exchange information and conduct trade between everyone.
At only the second such meeting, unidentified terrorists managed to assassinate most of the delegates to the meeting, setting off a bomb in the meeting hall. An instant uproar happened between almost all of the 16 centers, who are now all blaming each other for various reasons. World War 3 is on the brink of beginning....
Gameplay: -The 16 players will each chose a map from the list below as their "home" map. -Each round, each player will choose ONE other population center to attack and try and conquer. Players will be asked through PM at the start of each round what their attack plan is. Therefore, each player will play in at least one game per round, attacking their choice. If multiple players all choose to attack the same target population center, the game will be played with every player who is attacking that map, and the map's defender. The winner of each "attacked" map will then hold control of that map. (Note: If more than 7 people choose to attack the same map, only the first 7 players will get to attack on that map, any others will need to choose a new target.) -If a player loses all of the population centers they hold, they will be out of the tournament. -For every TWO population center maps held, the player will receive an EXTRA attack choice each round. Players must use every attack choice they have each round. -Map settings will always be Standard, Automatic, Sequential, Escalating, Chained, Sunny, No Trench, and 20 Rounds. -The goal is to control all 16 population centers, to win the tournament.
Rules: -As the maximum game load can reach over 4 games, this tournament is premium only. -At the start of each round, each play will have 48 hours to reply back to me with their attack choices. If an answer is not received within that time, that player will forfeit their attacks that turn. If this happens a second time, they will be removed from the tournament. Control of that player's territory's will be played for by the player's attacking that center that round, or if there is no attack on that center, the last players to attack that center will be given a chance to fight for it. If it is only one player in this case, they will just automatically assert control. -Players will have 24 hours after games are assigned to join in. A second join will be sent after 24 hours, and if the 2nd join is not taken, that player will be removed from the tournament. Their attacked territories will be fought out as normal, and according to the previous rule. If however this happens during the first round, a reserve player will step in.
To sign up, just post below which map you want to start from. It's first come first serve, one player per map. Also, come up with a "title" for your population center, such as: "The Republic of Vancouver", or maybe "The NYC Collective", it's up to you!
I'm requesting to drop my spot with the Chicago Map. My apologies for the extra work. I'm assuming this tournament could several weeks and I will be without internet at the end of the summer.
