I voted the fourth one, but I rarely make deals. In a lot for cases it's obvious who's stronger that others so people know what to do without deal making hopefully!
"Like computer viruses, successful mind viruses will tend to be hard for their victims to detect. If you are the victim of one, the chances are that you won't know it, and may even vigorously deny it."
As you could tell a persons character from game of risk. I dont play too much against multiple enemies so I dont get to make to many deals (I prefer playing doubles here). But if we talk about the boardgame, its pretty much like this one.And hell, theres nothing better than making deals, and breaking them as soon as it fits. Does me and my friends get upset. No... its a game and we can tell a game from reality. Am I afraid my friends will steal my money as I turn my back just because they backstabbed me over brazil - north africa truce? No no no. Its a game... its diplomacy to play with.. only one thing matters... to win(have fun is for loosersb.k. barunt wrote:Suffice it to say that you don't break deals. Only cheesewankers break deals. This is just a game, but your character is the same as in real life. Those whose word is solid will remain solid in games or other life modes.
So you dare say youve got better character than me? You probably shouldnt.
You dare to accept a truce with me in a game of risk? You definitively shouldnt.
Do I care about your answers? No, Im quite satisfied with my character, and Ill know ill talk you into that truce when I need it, then Ill break it when you need me the most

Perhaps, no, probably true. But carrying around your point load and using it as a comparison to others to make a completely unrelated point (about whether making deals is weenie-material) is also a sign of being a weenie.mibi wrote:maybe if you made more deals, you would have a score higher than 1000 after 100 games.
I don't care if you have 100000 points. If you got there by making obviously stated deals frequently instead of enjoying the subtleties of game-play ebb and flow, then you are, in fact, a weenie.

Making deals is one of the "subtleties" of play and co-operation is very much a part of the "ebb and flow" of the game. Not all deals are negotiated with words, sometimes actions do the talking instead and a player knows what needs to be done and follows suit.
When a dominant player is rolling across the map gobbling up territories and opponents, you and your remaining co-competitors have to figure out a way to deal with it or it's all downhill from there and the game's over.
If one player's strength is the equivalent of rest of the players in the game, it's time for those players to deal or get exterminated.

deals, pacts, alliances there are made mostly to take out, or at least lower down the strongest player.
if the deal is announced so what let it be. i have a game right now where red and green made an alliance to take me out, but i countered with another one.
and i always announce my "partner" one turn before i dissolve the alliance. its fair that way

the best sort of deal is a mutual interest deal. there's no point in making any sort of deal unless both people benefit. therefore if its suggested but not officially agreed upon in terms then both players get the benefit but it can be broken whenever.
silent agreements work best as they are pacts simply because you both know its best for you but when the game changes then you don't have to say 'sorry but the deal is off in 1 round' or something.

Again, probably true. But you have missed the point. Being a weenie is a negative characterization of the person - not the player's talent.RobinJ wrote:But therefore you are also a better playercleveridea wrote:Perhaps, no, probably true. Deals, truces and all the rest of this crap are just that.... crap. If your not in a doubles or a triples game then you are on your own. When there is a clear cut leader in a game, then I think most people know to attack that person until the rest of the game catches up... or if not then your playing with the wrong people. There is no need to have truces.
Pimpin' ain't easy, neither is this game.
I find it rather funny that some of the people who think 'deals' are lame, only play from the safety of their doubles and tipples teams.
its like saying "I don't make deals!... except when its for the whole game and with half the players on the map"
If you don't play standard games then please stfu about this topic.

Ill play to win. If you didnt get that part of "fun" and "looser" beeing irony..... well then I can see you judge character pretty well (irony here)b.k. barunt wrote:I rest my case.Smurf75 wrote:As you could tell a persons character from game of risk. only one thing matters... to win(have fun is for loosersb.k. barunt wrote:Suffice it to say that you don't break deals. Maybe deals were to be funnier if one wouldnt have to get negative feedback from when breaking them. I consider Risk,CC as one game, meaning.... when one player have won, no matter how he did it, we can clear the table and start another game. I dont care if someone backstabbed me in an alliance...mibi wrote:I find it rather funny that some of the people who think 'deals' are lame, only play from the safety of their doubles and tipples teams.

I dont play standard games beacuse you guys honour your deals too much, but I sure as hell wont shut up just because of that when you and the rest of you dealkeepers think you are such noble ppl because youre not breaking alliances in A GAME!!
But the main reason I prefer doubles because I like gameflow more in doubles, we actually brought doubles to a boardgame with success.
EDIT: not irony -> irony, and tried to correct some grammar although I horrible at english and it early in the morning
