ok added some one directional borders, i tried to keep them simple because i don't like the way some maps have horribles pictures of mountains etc.
What do people think of:
A: the locations of the 1 way borders?
B: the style of the one way borders?
Also the Mars, sun, earth thing is a little play on the way maps have north, east and south. You can't really have north, east, south, west in space or in the perspective of this map so i decided to use Mars, Earth and the Sun instead. There is nothing replacing west because i couldn't think of any planets etc beginning with W or V so i positioned the dial so it looks as if the is something for west but it is in the direction behind the moon which you can't see. Also the lines are curved and have a fade to look 3 dimensional.
NIce Map...
I like it its coming out nicely.... But I think You Should Lighten The whole thing up...... just a little .... so you can read the borders better ...
its hard to see the territories with in each country
Maybe use Smaller Arrows or just triangles coming off the border lines pointing in the direction of which you can cross.....

You got it wrong. They do use north, east, south, west..Bodmanbod wrote:

The moon has a south and north pole.
Anyway it is impossible for earth to ever be in that direction since the map you are using is the view from earth..
and please check your spelling of Prometheus.

Really good effort so far. I love the background and the theme in general... Only thing is I think you need a bit more clarity on the actual moon... You probably won't be able to fit the numbers on the small map if you keep some of your territories the size they are now... As for the one ways, I think the hand-drawn arrows have ruined it. Perhaps find a simpler way of representing the borders. You probably only need one arrow per territory, and if you're using photoshop there's a arrow in the line tool.

a couple of things...nice start though...
-i dont think you need 'territory border' in the key...people can figure that out.
-'border crossing in direction of arrow only' could be rewritten much simpler. something like 'one way border' or 'one way attack' or 'one way attack direction' ....
-i agree with snufkin on the mars-->sun thing...that doesnt really make sense...as were looking at the light side of the moon, which faces the sun...the top (n pole) is closer to mars? im not so sure...
-i love the old style of the page, and the font is perfect!
-i think itd be cool to have even less entrances to the 'mare' or 'maria' (thats what the dark areas are called, sorry im a science teacher) so that its kinda like a map within a map....
-the 'handdrawn' arrows need a little work to look more professional, and you could tone down the number of them...
-and you need a mooninite...

soo... changed the arrows to triangles like suggested, much better now i think.
@snuffkin: this is from the perspective of looking at the moon from a point in space. considering the point in space looking at it could be anywhere around it then the earth could be in any direction, and for the sake of the map it doesn't really matter. It's just a nice little play on NESW dials on maps.
As for the territories they are next on my list.......
sorry your posts wernt there when i started my post...
anyway as you can see i have addressed the issu about the arrows.
about the mars, earth, sun thing, does that really matter if it is scientifically correct? it has no real effect to the gameplay and is only there for asphetics. I'm interrested what more people think, should i simply remove it?
about the mares, i've been thinking about them and i am worried about the gameplay with them, they are easy to take but difficult to defend... maybe i should make some of the borders completely impassible? Although people with the crater territories would have most their armies on the locations where they can be attacked anyway so probably wouldn't attack from many of the one way borders unless there was an obvious oportunity.
About the territory borders in the key: well it isn't really nessercary but there is also no real need to remove it, vureently it fills a space that would look a little empty without it.
As for moonites.... pfft
and what you say about extra bonuses is interesting, but maybe not apollo landings. How about a bonus for all the mare territories and a bonus for all the crater territories?

I'm not sure about other contributors in this thread, but I still struggle to see the territories. The territory circles do help a lot though. It may be worth mentioning that I'm colourblind, but you don't want to alienate a significant proportion of your users.
Keep up the work though, it looks interesting.

Well, I don't see a need for a direction indicator but the Mars, Earth, Sun thing is definitely incorrect since the map is really just a picture of the near side which always faces Earth. If you were to add a NWES indicator, I believe N would be facing down with your current orientation.Bodmanbod wrote:about the mars, earth, sun thing, does that really matter if it is scientifically correct? it has no real effect to the gameplay and is only there for asphetics. Maybe you could get a pic of the far side of the moon and add that to the map to double the area. However, that lacks a lot of maria so it probably won't be that interesting.
This page may help you with location names:

well i think the question is not whether it is correct or not. I think the question should be: Should it be removed? if enough people think it should be removed then i will, but considering the amount of people who have voted and the amount that have said it is wrong there is no need yet to remove it.
in this latest update i've changed the continent borders to help colour blind people and improved the visability of the territory borders. Personally i don't like the new continent borders and i am not colour blind so can't tell much if they help.
Can some colour blind people please tell me if it is easier to determine the territories now?
Also thanks for the crater names
Personally, I wouldn't like my name to be permanently attached to something known to be incorrect, but that's just me.Bodmanbod wrote:well i think the question is not whether it is correct or not. I don't like the new borders. If I were you, I'd would just make continent borders darker than territory borders and leave it at that.Bodmanbod wrote:in this latest update i've changed the continent borders to help colour blind people and improved the visability of the territory borders. i was going to do that but then colour blind people would confuse them with one way borders.ericwdhs wrote:I don't like the new borders. If I were you, I'd would just make continent borders darker than territory borders and leave it at that.

I agree that the cross-hatching looks bad, really bad. I think you would be okay with simply darkening all territory borders across the board and then simply use one arrow per border to designate the one way crossings, much like the Middle Earth map shows from the Mt. Doom territory to the Ithilien territory.
