Sundog308's Last-Minute Lyrical Christmas Challenge

Postby Sundog308 on Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:22 pm

In the spirit of adding last minute events to an already busy Holiday Season, I would like to challenge the creatives, and non-creatives, in our community to re-write your favorite Christmas songs with a Conquer Club theme.

December 25th is fast approaching and Christmas songs are everywhere. I'm not sure about you, but I've heard most of these before and am pretty familiar with the lyrics. It would lift my Grinchy little heart to be able to wander through the mall humming something creative and original.

For example, to the tune of Jingle Bells:

Dashing to the front,
With a rainbow set to play,
Joining in the hunt,
Pillaging all the way!
Fog is setting in,
I can't see your troops,
Oh, please will you be weak and thin,
Or I'll look like Fruit Loops!

Although a poor example, that is the general idea of what I'm looking for.

Make it creative, make it singable, and make sure you reference all the Conquer Club things you can think of!
This includes maps, strategies, game settings, notable characters from our community, etc. The more hilarity you add, the better it will be.

Presents!

Along with the general warm fuzzies you will get from contributing to this amazing contest, I'm going to offer something tangible to the contestants.

The top 5 entries chosen by the judges will be awarded a General Achievement Medal. These will be ranked #1 - #5 based on originality, creatvity, how well you incorporated CC into the song, and overall quality, because...

The #1 winning entry chosen by the judges will receive 3 Months Premium*.

Stocking Stuffers!

All entries that are accompanied with a YouTube video of you performing your original work will automatically be awarded a General Achievement Medal.

Return Policy Fine Print!

- In order to avoid plagiarism, general name calling, and loss of Christmas spirit, your ideas must be submitted by PM to me, Sundog308.
- Again, the only official way for your entry to be considered is to include it in a PM to me, Sundog308.
- Submissions will be accepted through midnight, 12/25/12.
- You can submit a maximum of five official entries for this contest.
- The winners will be announced by 12/31/12.
- Winners will be chosen by an impartial panel of CC members (headed by me).
- Judges will not be allowed to submit any entries.
- Decisions will be made fairly, impartially and will not be changed.
-
* There must be a minimum of 35 entries in order for the Premium to be given away.

Yeah, I'm somewhat new. Been volunteering unofficially for awhile, only been official for the last 6 months or so. Generally I run the Twitter acct and do some posting on FB, so I'm not as visible. This contest originally came from a FB post idea I had, so that's why I'm running it.

Not really a minimum number of lines, as a lot of the songs have different lengths. You should at least put forward a couple verses and any choruses the songs contain. So far the entries I have received have had at least four or five verses.

You can enter up to a total of five different songs/parodies.

You can only win one General Achievement medal for this contest.

The final list of judges haven't been determined. I have a few invites out, but am waiting on responses. (Hey it's last minute, just like the contest!) There will be at least 5 judges.

Silent rage unholy dice
All isn't calm all isn't nice

Why do i play this when dice fail all of the time
Why am i writing this ridiculous rhyme

Sleep eventually but just one more game
Be late for work and conquer club's to blame

When I get home it's five minutes for an update
eight hours later - how the hell? - for fucks sake

sleep with conquering thoughts in your head
wake up and your troops are dead.

Don't forget, for your entry to count, it must be sent by PM to me. Posting in this thread doesn't count for an entry (for sake of artistic integrity.

If you put it on your "original work" on YouTube must you yourself be seen or can I sing it and put on some CC pics?

Since the lyrics will be nearly impossible to fake I think that posting the video with you singing will be sufficient. It's not like you'll rip the audio from some of the many other Conquer Club Christmas songs out there on the interwebs. :)

The judges will be:
- Gilligan
- thehippo8
- safariguy5
- squishyg
- ManBungalow
- Sundog308

They are all current or former CC volunteers. They are not allowed to submit any entries for the contest since they are responsible for judging.

Thanks for everyone's interest and participation in my first attempt at a community challenge here. It was fun seeing all the different entries.

It looks like we only ended up with about 14 participants and about 20 total entries. Unfortunately not enough to qualify for giving away any premium. I'll be looking for more opportunities like this in the future though, and maybe we can give some premium away at that time.

I have underestimated the effect of being in a foreign country (Canada) visiting family over the holidays would do to my free time. I'm still striving hard to get everything judged and posted by the 31st, but I may have to extend the announcement of winners past the New Year by a few days. When you have both your mother and your wife glaring at you when you touch the computer, it can get a bit dicey. :o

Regardless, I am excited about announcing the winners, and the entries especially as there were some really creative ones. (We only had one YouTube entry though... sadness.) I will be back from my workshop as soon as I can!
