Recent rulings are that it was apparently discriminatory. However, new changes might make it OK.thegreekdog wrote:Depending upon how the Pennsylvania law was written (i.e. if it was modeled after the Indiana law), it could also be constitutional under this case. Certainly if the law goes to court on constitutional grounds, the state will cite heavily to the Indiana case and it would be persuasive if not outright authority.Woodruff wrote:Different case - yours was in Indiana.thegreekdog wrote:According to the case I wikied, it's not unconstitutional.Juan_Bottom wrote:People do need ID to register to Vote, just like they need an ID to buy a Gun.
Problem solved, nobody disenfranchised.
In Pennsylvania it was understood that as many as 750,000 people wouldn't be able to vote because of their unconstitutional voter ID laws.
Bottom line... if you live in PA, you had best get an ID, but it might not be necessary to vote.

Re: Showing ID to Vote
The only time I showed ID was when I hadn't registered to avoid the poll tax. When I got a polling card for someone who had moved out months ago delivered to my door I realised how much I didn't want the Tories to win again and took it to the polling station. My X counted!

That's happened again in Florida, where a GOP-paid firm is being investigated for registering dead people as Republicans.

The State Supreme Court has refused to hear the voter ID case before the 2012 election -- meaning the law stays *off* the books for now. http://oshko.sh/NVGTTW
That's especially good news for the 300,000+ eligible voters in Wisconsin who lack ID.

Sure, fringe- you've abandoned all attempts at making an argument for small government, and are proposing an expensive government tracking system for all citizens.Phatscotty wrote:Is that what the scoreboard suggests to you? Fringe?Symmetry wrote:

I don't know what you mean by scoreboard, but I know you've deteriorated from Tea Party idealist to Republican party hack.
Perhaps fringe was the wrong term- maybe you simply got absorbed, as many people predicted of TPers.

Have I? All attempts? Based on this one single issue? The projections are that this will pay for itself, in my state, so your information is from your ass and your leap to stretch this from a common sense issue and a legitimate function of gov't into a big government issue is patheticSymmetry wrote:Sure, fringe- you've abandoned all attempts at making an argument for small government, and are proposing an expensive government tracking system for all citizens.Phatscotty wrote:Is that what the scoreboard suggests to you? A government tracking system? wtf are you talking about? sounding a little fringe yourself there...
Scoreboard = poll
Tea Party? Again...wtf are you talking about?
Contradict yourself in the same post much? Notice your are admitting flat out that it is you yourself that got absorbed.
Your responses are as nutty as ever. Perhaps you should relax a little bit, and absorb yourself in some accurate information

Or trolling youtube videos without explanation.
At least this one wasn't Glenn Beck.
Still, I guess it's a good substitute for actual thought.

Symmetry, it's a lot like a book. You like to read the title and say "meh.....". You should actually open the book, read it, gain knowledge, especially when it's on the issues you seem to care to deeply about.
If you continue to ignore the information, all that means is you admit you are willfully ignorant, as opposed to just ignorant.

You keep saying this, yet it makes absolutely no sense at all. Both thegreekdog and I have asked you to back up this claim and how it can possibly save money, and you keep refusing to provide that information.
