You said the bible is homophobic. Considering Christianity exists based on the bible, you implied that Christianity is homophobic.Symmetry wrote:I didn't label Christianity as homophobic.Night Strike wrote:Do you label any other religions as homophobic?Symmetry wrote:I don't despise Christianity. Christianity is based on Christians, I said that the Bible is homophobic, which it is, and that how Christians treat the Bible is important.Night Strike wrote:You said the bible is homophobic. Christians existed before the Bible, if that's worth anything to you.

Symmetry, which NT passages, specifically, do you find homophobic?

Then how do I understand it and try to live by it?Symmetry wrote:Not that you read it.
The bible is how we learn about what Christ and his apostles did and taught. It was written before the year 100, it just wasn't in the compiled form we have today.

We're not in court dude. You're talking to me in a public thread where I've consistently proven you wrong. If you have some secret technicality where you've been right, tell me.Night Strike wrote:I stated nothing false.Symmetry wrote:Because you want to think that's true.Night Strike wrote:Then how do I understand it and try to live by it?Symmetry wrote:Not that you read it.

Or you can apologise for saying that I despise Christianity.

How have you proven me wrong? You've made assertions (actually, just accusations of bigotry) and immediately claimed them as facts. I'm sorry that you disagree that the bible clearly states that homosexual activities are shameful and immoral. The bible can't be changed just to support your view of the world.

I told you, this summer these guys are going to flip out and go nutz! Up is down to them. Nothing makes them happier than to not know the answer to your question. Nothing makes them happier than to issue a challenge, and then disappear when it's your turn to challenge them. Nothing makes them happier than to slander people when they disagree. Nothing makes them happier than ignoring the substance and the context, and then dragging the discussion into the gutter. Nothing make them feel better than making hateful posts. Nothing makes them feel better than to call hateful names.

Romans 1:17 , to be specific. It gives homosexuality as coming as a result of worshipping other than God. But did you happen to note the other bits that followed? and did you realize that this immorality was given as a result of making images?
Also, if a plague comes down as punishment is the plague itself evil? Are the people who succumb evil?
Further, if it is evil, then what is the proper response?
For that, you have to read a bit further. If you go to Romans 2:1, then it says the following:
"Therefore, you have no excuse, O man, whoever you are, when you judge another; for in passing judgement upon him you condemn yourself, because, you the judge are doing the very same things".
It goes on, but the bottom line is that whether homosexuality is supported by Christianity or not, that is not justification for saying that the US government should only recognize one type of marriage. We are ruled by a constitution, not the Bible.

I can also point out again that what you're problem is is objections to bigotry. Not bigotry.

I'm trying to find where Jesus made those statements in the Bible. Can you point them out for me? Thanks!Night Strike wrote:I'm sorry that you disagree that the bible clearly states that homosexual activities are shameful and immoral. I'm not agreeing with NS on this but just to make you aware Woodruff, the Bible isn't only quotes by Jesus. NS stated that it says in the Bible, not that Jesus said it. Perhaps you want to take the spin out of your question and ask him for Bible quotes?Woodruff wrote:I'm trying to find where Jesus made those statements in the Bible. Can you point them out for me? There is absolutely no "spin" in my question. None at all. Are Christians supposed to be Christ-like or not? I don't care what the various power-mongers amongst the past Christian leadership have wanted the Bible to say...but what Jesus Christ himself said...that is what is relevant to how a Christian (i.e. Christ-like) should live. How the hell is that "spin"? Does wanting to see the relevancy of Christ's own words turn the Bible into some "leftist propaganda machine" or something? Why do you fear Christ's words as the way you should live your life?patrickaa317 wrote:NS stated that it says in the Bible, not that Jesus said it. NS said the "Bible states". You replied "Where does Jesus say this?". You are asking NS to answer a question based on something he didn't say.

So Paul's words don't matter? Or the other authors of the New Testament? And Christ did affirm that marriage is between one man and one woman even if he did not outright speak against homosexual acts.Woodruff wrote:Yes, I know. True enough, and yet there is purpose behind it. I am asking that question because Christians SHOULD be much more concerned about the things that Christ said, rather than the things that those in power put into the Bible in order to keep power.patrickaa317 wrote:Calm down Wood-man, calm down.Woodruff wrote:Yes, I know.
