Bigotry and such should not be against the rules. I loathe racists and homophobes and the like, but once we, as a society (I like seeing CC as a micro version of society), start censoring opinions just because they're unpopular, then we're fucked.

Sure, they're "only words", but that's beside the point. Language works by assigning meaning to words, and there are multiple factors contributing to the meaning of any given word - certain words have such historical/cultural baggage that it's simply better to not use them. It's not because the words themselves are considered "offensive" - it's because of the way those words are used. And yes, you could argue that what those words are is arbitrary - and it is, sort of.

But the thing is, as long as there are people who keep using words as weapons against people, as long as there exists bigotry, discrimination and oppression, there will always be new words that are being used to systematically hurt and oppress a group of people. And if we accept the usage of those words, it normalizes the kind of discrimination, oppression and bigotry that those words are used for. So all we can really do is come up with words that are not bigoted. And when those words become usurped by bigots, we'll have to come up with new, un-bigoted words. And so on and so on, until one day there won't be any more bigotry and then we can use whatever words we want.

It's not like you're being asked to get off your ass and do something, or anything. Just refrain from using certain words. How hard can it be?
