Do you click on ads on the internet? I don't see any because I use AdBlockPlus and many other things to prevent ads. I started thinking about this because I read an article about how to protect your privacy on the internet, and it included using AdBlockPlus. The website had a note though:

NOTE: Please remember that for some small players, like us, ads is the only form of revenue easily available to us. So to help support us, please do not block the ads displayed on your pages

This got me thinking. Does anybody even click on internet ads?

My sister for example would click in anything that would say Free knitting rope or How to make your skin glow or shit like that. I had to super secure her cocmputer because of that.

I've talked about this. Blocking ads is a security measure, especially if you use windows or mac - it's a route for malware to get in, and it's a commonly used route, so it's best to have them blocked.

And it's not even about being on sites you trust, because sites don't get to pick out their ads - they can, if they get lots of messages of a malicious ad or inappropriate or whatever, have it blocked for their site, but they can't pre-screen them usually... so even on trustworthy sites, all it takes is one malicious ad and bam, you get your computer full of pop-ups about online casinos where you use viagra for money to play with nigerian princes.

Well, to be honest, I don't really care about the security thing as much anymore - since I've moved on to use Ubuntu, there's no way any malware could actually install anything on my computer without me giving it permission - but anyway, the ads are just so annoying that I don't need to see them on most sites. Makes browsing a hellofa lot faster too. I do enable ads on a few sites that I wish to support, they're mainly webcomics that don't use the google ad networks, and mostly they have ads from other webcomics, and that's kind of nice because I sometimes find some nice new things to read that way, so yeah in those cases I actually click on ads.

In conclusion, I would recommend AdBlock + Noscript. With a combination of them it's virtually impossible for malware to get on your computer from web pages, if you're careful.

Besides, 90% of what javascript is used for on the web these days is useless garbage anyway.

I have an android phone. I open the browser, then select the menu options, settings. Uncheck the box for "enable javascript" and then uncheck the box for "load images".

So yeah, I don't even want to think how many people went there, thinking they'd get to download the latest version of Gimp and got their computer infested with shit that they don't know how to get rid of, and are now blaming Gimp for it...

So, until these large ad networks do something about these kinds of abuses, put some kind of failsafes in place to stop these kinds of things from happening, I refuse to view their ads.

Not like AoG or fellows like him that are totally broke and have more desires and time to fill than money.

speaking of internet ads and malware I have this really annoying problem where I click on a link in Google and it takes me to another website (which I sure didn't click on) and it just has a list of sites I can go to that have nothing to do with what I wanted. Anyone got any ideas as to what that is? Or why it's happening?
