I'd rather see them win it AFTER moving to Quebec as the Nordiques won the Cup the year after they moved to Colorado. Let them win it back-to-back. I'm pretty sure that would make them the first team to win consecutively, yet as two different teams.keiths31 wrote:I'd rather see them win it AFTER moving to Quebec as the Nordiques won the Cup the year after they moved to Colorado. Why would this be bittersweet?Serbia wrote:Nordiques* What I'd thoroughly enjoy at this point would be the Coyotes going all the way, winning the Cup, and then promptly moving to Quebec. That would be hilarious.
Though, as a Wings fan, would kind of be bitter sweet, because the Jets and Coyotes/Nordiques could just swap conferences, meaning Detroit stays in the west.
Do you want Detroit in the East?

You kidding? We don't need another perennial playoff team in the east...

yes it's possible and will happen soon maybe this summer
but i hope for a lock-out, so we can get non-garantee contract, so gomez would be out with no problem on the cap-hit, hopefully like in the NFL
Re: NHL Season 2011-2012
that would just be plain stupid putting Detroit in the East
the strongest franchises in the league would all be in the East in terms of history, fan base, popularity, etc - from viewing a historical perspective so please dont give me a snarky reply about how great nashville has been this season
toronto, rangers, boston, montreal philly, detroit,

If you're looking for me to sing the praises of Nashville as a franchise or a home for an NHL franchise, you're looking at the wrong guy. It's quite obvious that the best franchises begin with the Original 6. Across either the US or Canada, you can find any of those jerseys. Hell, when I went to Sheffield, England, I saw a guy walking around with a Red Wings Steve Yzerman jersey. How many fans outside of Tennessee do you really think the Preds have? And I'm not talking about people who were pulling for them to beat Detroit; I mean people who actually care about the Preds, would buy merchandise, catch as many televised games as they can, go to their road games if they visit their home market... I doubt there are many.
From a marketing aspect, I can understand the opposition to Detroit moving east. From a pure geographical position, however, it makes perfect sense. And don't give me "Columbus can move east" because that's a waste of a franchise.

Flyers are up there with the original 6 franchises
I remember a Montreal fan on a hockey message board stated "I've always considered Philly an honorary original 6 team"
pretty fair statement

Penguins were pretty shit in the pre-Lemieux era, but since then we've been among the top in the East (minus the few seasons near the beginning of the 2000s).
I agree with Gannable though, moving Detroit east would really screw over the balance of power. Exchanging the 'diques and the Jets would make the most sense I think.

And with the 'Yotes beating the Blackhawks, I am now 0 and 5 so far in my picks (though, to be fair, that series was extremely evenly matched with 5 god damn OT games). If the Caps, Sens and Panthers all win their next games, I will be 0 and 8.
I am actually hoping that happens, due to the sheer ridiculousness of the odds.

The most gut-wrenching series I've experienced in a while. Glad it went to the Caps.
Hoping for the Rangers, just to keep the ass-kicking train going. Then the Flyers.
Mostly though, I've just been happy to finally be able to grow out a decent 'stache after 23 long years, so I wanna keep it for as long as possible while having a rationale to give people who ask me about it at work.

f*ck, completely forgot about the Caps game. Though it wouldn't matter because I don't get NBC Sports, but it would've been a great game to watch.whitestazn88 wrote:The most gut-wrenching series I've experienced in a while. Glad it went to the Caps.

I want both the Sens and Panthers to win because I'm rooting for them (I hate the Rangers and I have an affinity towards the Panthers because Pavel Bure used to play for them ) and because I want to go 0 and 8 in my first round predictions.
After that, I think it'll be a complete toss-up in both the East and West.

That Caps-Bruins series was the closest series of all time with all 7 games being decided by one goal. I don't like either team, but it was a very fun series from a hockey fan point of view. Holtby is a nice story.
Now for the Sens to keep their magic going...

ugh...Caps vs. Rangers...I don't know which team I hate more.
And Lundqvist saved the Rangers' asses. They can't make the same mistakes against the Caps.

Re: NHL Season 2011-2012
Bring on Das Rangers.
I am more certain we'll lose this series than I was we were going to lose to boston. Although we played the Rangers good in the final game of the regular season. And we did beat them in the playoffs in 7 games the last time we met up (albeit we were the 1 seed that year and had the last game at home).
If the caps want to pull this off, they'll have to generate more scoring chances. Give some relief to Braden for god's sake. Also, take better advantage of the power play opportunities we're given. And I for one believe that they can't let up the offensive pressure as soon as they take a 1 goal lead like they did against Boston. Keep attacking, while still holding to the defensive mindset that has made them hard to score on.

Not trying to dwell on anything here....but I saw an interview with Rick Tocchet and he said some things that I think might be interesting to hear...I'm not sure how to link directly to the video, but it is on the right side of this page http://www.tsn.ca/shows/otr/
Right now it's on Page 3 and it was setup wrong...I had to click on the Jay Mohr interview to get the Rick Tocchet interview...listen at about 3:00-3:30 (well, listen to the whole interview) and you'll hear something eerily familiar...and this is coming from an NHL Legend. Just sayin'....
