Postby aad0906 on Tue Feb 21, 2012 10:10 pm

This Triple Team Tournament will be played on the maps below. All games will be auto, sequential, chained, no spoils, foggy. No round limit. In Round 1 each team will play each map once versus a random opponent (http://www.random.org) and each game won is worth one point. The 4 teams with the highest number of points will advance to the semi-final that will be played on the WWII Europe map. The winners of the semi-finals advance to the finals that will also be played on the WWII Europe map. If more than 4 teams have the top 3 or top 2 scores a tie-breaker will be played on Classic.

Poland September 1, 1939 - October 6, 1939
Gazala May 26, 1941 - June 21, 1941
Pearl Harbour December 7, 1941
Australia February 19, 1942
Stalingrad August 23, 1942 - February 2, 1943
D-Day Omaha Beach June 6, 1944
Ardennes December 16, 1944 - January 15, 1945
Iwo Jima February 19, 1945 - March 26, 1945.

Poland
On September 1, 1945 the German army invaded Poland after negotiating the Molotov-Ribbentrop non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union. The invasion triggered a declaration of war by England and France but despite brave efforts of the Polish army, Poland could not withstand the German Blitzkrieg warfare and was divided between Germany and the Soviet Union.

Gazala
The Battle of Gazala was fought to determine the possession of the vital Libyan port of Tobruk. The Axis supply lines were badly overextended and they needed the port. The legendary German general Rommel led the Italian troops and the famous Afrika Korps to victory against a coalition of British, Indian, South African and Free French troops. After this battle Rommel was promoted to Field Marshall but his Panzer Armee did not recover from the loss of a large number of tanks and saw his advance stall at El Alamein just weeks later.

Pearl Harbour
At 06:05am on December 7, 1941 6 Aircraft Carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy and a number of submarines launched a devastating attack on the U.S. fleet sinking 9 ships and damaging 21 others. Fortunately the U.S. carriers were not in port and escaped the carnage.

Australia
On February 19, 1942 at 09:57 am the same Japanese fleet that had attacked Pearl Harbour launched an attack on the Northern Australian port of Darwin, causing immense damage. More bombing raids would follow, but an invasion never took place.

Stalingrad
The battle of Stalingrad was the turning point in the war in the European theatre and it is the bloodiest battle in history. The Germans, whose air force turned most of Stalingrad into rubble, seized 90% of the city but they could not utilize their favourite Panzer centered tactics and they became bogged down in house-to-house fighting. The heroic efforts of Sergeant Pavlov and Vasily Zaitsev made them Heroes of the Soviet Union. and The Red Army attacked the weak Axis flanks that consisted of Romanian and Italian troops and encircled the German forces in the city as the harsh Russian winter set in. Cut off from vital supplies and unable to break the encirclement the German army collapsed and the Red Army took the initiative. A day after his promotion to Field Marshall, Friedrich Paulus surrendered.

D-Day Omaha Beach
In one of the largest logistical operations in history, a fleet of almost 7,000 ships sailed towards 5 different beach heads in Normandy while more than 20,000 paratroopers landed behind the German Atlantik Wall. Omaha beach was the most heavily fortified landing zone and the American troops there suffered heavy losses, reaching the D-Day objectives by D+3.

Ardennes
In one of the largest intelligence failures of all times the Allied high command was unaware of a massive troop build up in the German Eiffel. Although the German army achieved complete surprise and caused widespread panic, at many locations American units in varying size were fighting tenaciously, including the 101st Airborne that was rushed in to plug the gap at Bastogne. As a result from a severe lack of fuel the German assault soon ran out of steam and failed to reach the Meuse river bridges. On December 26 the spearhead of general Patton's 3rd Army broke the German encirclement of Bastogne. The Battle of the Bulge was the bloodiest battle of the war for the American Army.

Iwo Jima
This was the first attack on one of the Japanese home islands. The island was strategically significant as it could be used for the upcoming invasion of Japan. This was also one of the fiercest battles of the war as the Japanese defenders fanatically defended the heavily fortified island. One of the most recognizable images of WW2 was the raising of the US flag on the 4th day of the battle.

yep, sent the team captain an email yesterday to let me know who the third player is. If I don't get a response today, I will look for a player myself.
