The kelpers are already reporting shortages of eggs, bananas, petrol and other necessities after only a few weeks of the Pan-American trade embargo on the occupied Malvinas, according to British official state media BBC. It's still summer in the south Atlantic ... we'll see if the "no negotiation" nonsense holds up this winter when they're all on starvation rations. The good thing is there's also a shortage of condoms which has made the 3,000 sheep on the island extremely happy.

Oh the horror! Only 1 egg a day instead of 2, and no bananas either, that will make them want to become Argentinian. If Argentina closes it's airspace for traffic to the Falklands it would be an inconvenience but the Falklands could still be supplied by air and ship from the UK so no Falklander will starve.

Fortunately the Argentinian government has stated it will not repeat the same mistake that the junta made 30 years ago and they will not invade the Falkland Islands. Argentina will pursue their case through the UN but in line with the existing resolution the UN will of course never make the Falklanders join Argentina against their will (even if such a resolution were to be proposed I can name a few permanent members of the security council that would veto it).

They're currently supplied by neither air nor ship from the UK.

It's not economically viable for a company to export from UK, that's why Malvinas does her trade with South America. That means you're talking about a prolonged UK military airlift/sealift spanning 12,000 kms R/T. The RAF and RN don't have the ships or aircraft to mount such an operation. You're talking about a gigantic operation - permanently supplying a 2,000 person stable civilian population with every necessity of life - that even the USA would be hard-pressed to engineer.

I'm not sure if you're reading a newspaper in your head composed of your hopes and dreams or a newspaper that's actually printed in real life. CW is that the Decolonization Committee will vote overwhelmingly in support of Argentina. We're looking at probably a 20-4 vote. And I have no clue what "existing resolution" to which you're referring.

The UN has repeatedly clarified that "self-determination" doesn't apply in the instance of Malvinas as it exists in tandem with decolonization. "Self-determination" would only apply if the Malvinas were making a move for independence. I already outlined this elsewhere. You should pay attention.

First, this isn't (probably) going to be a Security Council questions. The SC can't just veto whatever they like willy-nilly. The permanent members can only veto Security Council resolutions, not resolutions of the General Assembly or other bodies.

• Secondly, I don't know who you're thinking of that would veto a UNSC resolution on Malvinas. Russia and China won't. Britain can't as she's an unresponsive party to the conflict so is prohibited from using her veto (see Article 27 of the charter). Would France after Cameron told the EU to go f*ck themselves? Based on Obama's statements (itemized previously) supporting the Argentine claim I doubt the U.S. would. The U.S. is in a real quandry, in fact, due to the critical nature the current administration views the restart of the FTAA agreement and the fact that Argentina holds the keys to that. I predict the U.S. would vote "no" but not exercise a vetoing "no."

It doesn't matter. Argentina doesn't need to invade or even need UN support (but they'll get it). The economic strangulation strategy will work. The Argentines have brilliantly built a cohesive diplomatic block that will force capitulation without a shot being fired. When the Falklanders enter year 2 of 1000 calorie/day diets, petrol rations, constant shortages of basic commodities ... they'll beg Britain to open dialog. This isn't even debatable. It's a done deal. It'll just be fun to see how long they last. I give them 18 months.

Argentina has no legitimate claim to the Falkland Islands, they are interested in nothing besides the oil, and the Argentine tactics are despicable and should not be tolerated in any instance, lest you invite other powers to attempt to force another to cede land or resources simply by making it uncomfortable for them to hold them, like, for instance, an economic blockade.

Corrected it back. For families that have lived on the islands for 9 generations, this is not an imported population. If we take saxis argument, then should not America go back to the native American people?. Argentina itself has an imported population so maybe they should let the indigenous people rule them for a change. Or do they not want to live in jungle clearings eating monkey brains?
