A lot of us here like to play random map but theres a lot of maps we can get that we dont like so the idea is to make a list of maps, dunno what shud be the minimum number of maps in this list, but whenever we would use this 'random list' option we would end up playing a map from this list
ppl who see our game and wanna join shud of course be allowed to see what maps we have on the list
I like playing random cuz I never know what I'll get, makes it more interesting and fun, Im sure many think the same, but I dont like ending up with hive when I planned to kill 15 minutes here b4 I leave the room
also many ppl like playing certain types of maps, for example tiny maps like doddle and lux or maps with starting positions like feudal or AOR, so why not let them make a 'random list' that include only maps of specific type.. also if we are allowed to make more then one of these lists, we could just pick a different list when we feel like playing a different set of maps
sorry if somebody already made this suggestion
Random list of maps option

Re: Random list of maps option
While I don't necessarily have a problem with this, I feel like it would dilute the Random Medal.
Also, that would probably create a lot of storage issues in terms of server space.
I would say to just leave the Random the way it is.

Re: Random list of maps option
How about a, seperate, Random Small Maps option (anything less than, say, 36 regions) - would be good for quick speed games, but shouldn't count towards the medal if introduced.
The list would be a predetermined list (by someone) - there are probably 20-30 such maps.

That is something I would support if it didn't count towards the medal. I think upping it to the Classic 42 would probably be good.DJ Teflon wrote:How about a, seperate, Random Small Maps option (anything less than, say, 36 regions) - would be good for quick speed games, but shouldn't count towards the medal if introduced.

i believe there should be improvements to the 'random map' in a simular way indeed. because random is just too random and there's a lot of maps that i just wouldn't want to play even if i'd have a chance to win a million on that map.

Then perhaps "random" isn't for you. I mean, it's quite simple enough to randomly pick a map from amongst the maps you do enjoy playing already...I used to do it for random-map tournaments I ran here before the random map feature was implemented. Just use a set list on random.org.zimmah wrote:and there's a lot of maps that i just wouldn't want to play even if i'd have a chance to win a million on that map.

Re: Random list of maps option
To avoid too long games you can set up a round limit of 20 rounds. That way if you get Hive it will still don't last to long.nikola_milicki wrote:I like playing random cuz I never know what I'll get, makes it more interesting and fun, Im sure many think the same, but I dont like ending up with hive when I planned to kill 15 minutes here b4 I leave the room

Re: Random list of maps option
then dont make these games count for random medal, simple as that, I only called it 'random list' cuz its similar to random map, the point of this option is not providing an easier way to snag a random medal.. this option would allow ppl to filter out all the maps they dont wanna play and at the same time spice things up a bit in a way that players and their opponents will never know what map they gonna end up playing even tho they made the list by themselveschapcrap wrote:While I don't necessarily have a problem with this, I feel like it would dilute the Random Medal.

maybe just one or two lists tops, I dont know anything about serves and stuff so I dont know what would be a reasonable number here, even if its just one Id be ok with it if we could change this list whenever we wanted
the point is not to get Hive.. if I wanna play doddle or lux or something else similar size I know it wont last longer then Ive anticipatedForza AZ wrote:To avoid too long games you can set up a round limit of 20 rounds. That way if you get Hive it will still don't last to long.
Id like to see players having full control of what maps get on their lists, so if they wanna play only tiny maps so be it but a lot of ppl will have an odd mix of maps for sure, I wouldnt be surprised if Id see doddle and hive on the same listDJ Teflon wrote:How about a, separate, Random Small Maps option (anything less than, say, 36 regions) - would be good for quick speed games, but shouldn't count towards the medal if introduced.

oh Im pretty sure TOs would find a way to utilise this option in same way, whether they would use it to create a new tournament concepts or just implement it in existing conceptsDJ Teflon wrote:Would be very handy for tournament organisers
