A "Final Solution to the "targeting" of new players

A "Final Solution to the "targeting" of new players
I believe, that I have a solution to what has been a widely discussed topic across many different forums recently.
I think that there are many views here that range from, "this system and/or the rules have to be changed" to "there is no problem at all here move along". I think however, that many on this site would agree, that something has to be changed
There have also been many suggestions to this problem, but they all seem to have as many con's as they do pro's (in other words, opening the door for daily C & A reports, etc)
I realize that there is already a weighted system for points (loser / winner x 20) but obviously some have found a way to work around that and it doesn't address the core problem which I believe is the following:
I think that the "farming" rule was created, for the most part, to insure that new members of this site have a pleasurable experience in the hopes that they would continue to play. If this is the case, then we are doing that philosophy a great injustice by allowing players to beat up on them on a routine basis for the sole purpose of achieving rank!
So my solution is simple:
We must also weigh the rank of every individual player based on the "relative rank" of the opponent that they have faced. I know this is possible because there is already a "relative rank" feature on Map Rank... Not to mention the other math programs that exist on this site such as algorithm 400 for clans, etc.
I do not have the time myself to work it out mathematically but I am sure it can be done... A simple solution would be to incorporate a negative "rank point" value that corresponds directly with the "relative rank" system that is already in place.
Some may argue that they will get penalized in rank because of lower players joining their games but let's be honest... with game counts in the 1000's, it would be a minimal effect unless your average opponent was far inferior in rank.
In my opinion this would do two things....
(1) It would curb the urge to "seek and destroy" lesser opponents
(2) and more importantly, it would probably eliminate the need for a "farming" rule altogether which would also eliminate C & A reports, etc.
You thoughts........ ?

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
new players are not being beat up. new players have a ? instead of a rank symbol.
all those who have a rank are fair game. end of story.
how hard is that to understand.

apparently this is very hard for you to understand so I will explain...greenoaks wrote:new players are not being beat up. new players have a ? instead of a rank symbol.

(1) first, by your statement, you would suggest that anyone who has surpassed the (5) game minimum to get rid of their ? rank is no longer a "new" player and therefore "fair game"..... Well, at last checked, you had 8,551 games completed. This would amount to eight thousand, five hundred, and forty-six (8,546) more games completed by you than the same said person. So I would think that most intelligent people would say that the person with 5 games under his belt is relatively new compared to you. I could be wrong though so maybe I should just beat my head against a wall and figure it out.
(2) secondly, your opinion is not the only one that matters here so I am afraid to tell you that your opinion is NOT the end of the story.
Sorry to bearer of bad news to you.

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
it is against the rules to farm new recruits, not RELATIVELY new recruits. i didn't make that up, that is the rule of the site.
once you have a rank you are fair game. end of story.

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
But the actual Rules laid out about "Farming" only involves New Recruits, not players who have a rank. YOU are using the word Farming wrong. You want to stop people from playing newish players repeatedly.lynch5762 wrote:apparently this is very hard for you to understand so I will explain...greenoaks wrote:new players are not being beat up. new players have a ? instead of a rank symbol.

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
How about on the scoreboard there is just another column with 'average rank of player played against'
That way if someone is constantly playing against low ranked people it would be there for everyone to see

Seriously???
Give me a break TFO and GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we ALL know what the freaking rules are by now when it comes to farming!!!
Do you really think that that is what this post hoped to achieve???? to interpret the rules????
Please tell me that everyone here is not that fucking stupid!!
I took the time to think of what I thought was a well thought out suggestion to the apparent problem on many forums and this is the response I get????????????????????????
My god..... ban me please.... BAN THE LIVING f*ck OUT OF ME BECAUSE THIS IS JUST FUCKING STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
Lynch, I'd like to see a potential formula suggested there. I confess to lacking the mathematics know-how to know how that would work.
An average rank of opponents on the scoreboard would be cool, and would be great bragging rights for the strongest players. Right, maprank already includes that, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement.

I apologize for my earlier rant! I am just so frustrated with the lack of willingness to acknowledge a problem and the patented responses..macbone wrote:Lynch, I'd like to see a potential formula suggested there. I confess to lacking the mathematics know-how to know how that would work.

I will be happy to formulate......

I agree that there's a problem, although I'm not sure of the solution.

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
Posting average rank of opponents doesn't make any sense. Anyone who actually cares already knows who the farmers are.
What the people who care want is humiliation of the farmers.
I think the solution is that all farmers (and I mean this in the sense that lynch means it) have to post unflattering pictures of themselves in their undergarments. This will humiliate them, and then the whiners will hopefully stop whining. If points are that important to you: start farming. Why is that a difficult concept?
Alternately, if you wanted to see who among a certain group of players is the best, you could hold a tournament. Or, you could start a usergroup with it's own scoreboard.
Really, there is no problem. You are stuck with a silly idea that points matter because as a human, when you see a number, you want it to rise. Stop being human. It is time to ascend to a better place.
I would like to modify a classic question: "who is worse: the idiot farming or the idiot following them around complaining?"

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
actually yoshi, posting the average rank played on the scoreboard will go a long way towards humiliating them, and seeing as we cannot actually "post unflattering pictures of themselves in their undergarments" having the average rank played on the scoreboard is practically the same thing.DoomYoshi wrote:Posting average rank of opponents doesn't make any sense. It is a sort of middle ground, it will allow the point whores to continue their questionable tactics while at the same time anyone who cares will be able to see right away if someone is farming, and they will have a stat on the scoreboard to back it up.

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
I have to admit that I agree with DY in many ways... I don't really care about my rank and I know who is farming.padsta wrote:actually yoshi, posting the average rank played on the scoreboard will go a long way towards humiliating them, and seeing as we cannot actually "post unflattering pictures of themselves in their undergarments" having the average rank played on the scoreboard is practically the same thing.DoomYoshi wrote:Posting average rank of opponents doesn't make any sense. That being said, I am obsessed with this problem that seems like a plague so I am determined to find a solution and I think this is a good start.
For instance.... My overall relative rank is 0.944 and this could be compared to some who are lucky to be at 0.501 yet have a higher rank than I so we are on to something.. I will continue to work the math

no rule is being broken and no one involved is complaining that things need to change.
Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
The system is already in place!!! after 2 hours of totally useless thinking (trust me it happens often) and then the light bulb went off;
If we used the following formula; (Total points) X "RR" = Answer.......... we come up with the following results: (RR being relative rank of course)
rabbiton 4899 .727 3562
rodion 4428 .763 3379
squirly 4042 .832 3363
Mc0525 4727 .697 3293
BRADDY 4279 .763 3265
Notable others.......
GLG 4990 .552 2754
MF 3783 .751 2841
etc
That is not actually too far off from the board as it is and we can eliminate the "farming" accusations

What about handing out a Farming medal for defeating x number of question marks or ?.................And a Ranching medal for defeating X number of players with a score 3000 less than your current score....................... And a Herding medal for defeating x number of players using used car salesman techniques, either threw live chat or invites of players with a score of 3000 less than your current score .........And a MH medal for MH s that bust x number of multis that they are playing against.

Re: A "Final Solution to Farming"
Just start everyone out with a cook hat.
Give them 500 points.
After they have played 5 games give them the other 500....For that matter start them with 1 point and award the other 999 upon completion of 5 games.
Make ? indistinguishable from cooks, and start them with far less points so the risk/reward is even greater.
This way even if people were farming it wouldn't be worth the effort.
Done.
