As far as the history goes, there was a massive draught at the time in India, and England was losing revenue, and raised the taxes in the New World to keep the income flowing. The increase in the tax on tea lead to the tea party, and their slogan was absolutely "no taxation without representation", however, it was very much the increase in tax that sparked the movement.
If the tax was lowered or removed, its fairly improbable that there would have been a tea party at all.
Similarly, if the big banks and many wall street firms did not engage in multiple acts of fraud that resulted in a massive economic disaster that the average american essentially is ultimately paying, than its fairly certain, there would not have been an Occupy Wall Street movement....
So, I do hope perhaps the actual history, helps you.
I agree with you though, they had a good point.
However, if the massive draught didnt happen, its very possible neither would have the tea party, or the subsequent revolution, and if it didnt happen then, its certainly impossible to know how it would have played out.

you see, the taxpayers money was taken from the taxpayers and redistributed to other groups (who did not pay those taxes) None of the taxpayer money was spent on things for the taxpayers.

That's not really true, it was a movement, just a rapidly developed and confined movement. There was organization and planning, albeit loose. Criticizing the slogan part seems like nitpicking, that was a well known expression/viewpoint of what a fair amount of people thought, even if they didn't parade around with banners saying it.

I see it as a historical event rather than a movement. Well there was some other activities that went on in conjunction with the actual dumping of the tea into the harbor, but I suppose as most people think of it as just the dumping, then yeah it's an event. I think of the dumping of the tea as part of the small civil guerilla resistance that went on in those few weeks/month since I read a cool book about it. Lol implied knowledge!
