Wonder if Boise can stay in the top ten with a losing record :)

Go Boise all they can do is help me by winning

We'll never know. I'm tweaking the formula again (less weight to top 25 wins), so Boise will get knocked down to around 15th.

There is something wrong with a 5-4 team being ahead of me in the standings.

Losing to San Diego State right now, putting me (Boise State) at five losses for the season. That should be enough to drop me out of the RPI anyway...but if for some fluke I stay highly ranked, I will decline my invitation for the postseason playoffs. No five-loss team has any business making the playoffs over a 2 or 3 loss team. Not sure how the formula is keeping me up there so high.

Such a promising start to the season, but I've fizzled out here in the end. Fun tourney though AR...hope it comes back for another run in 2012-13.

Just to clarify...I will accept a bowl invite (if I'm deemed worthy of one)...just not a spot in the 16-team bracket.

As we get nearer to the end of the season, there are a few divisions that will have uneven conference records due to the rescheduling I had to do. The SEC West is an example, where Mississippi State will end up with one more conference game than Arkansas because Arkansas' conference schedule included Tennessee, which dropped. This may affect the division champion. We have two options here:

1. Drop the inter-conference games so the division champion is determined only by games within that division.
2. Count the replacement game as a conference game and even it out that way.

I'm leaning toward the first option. What is everyone's preference here?

AmphibiousRodent wrote:Week 12 games have been sent out, and I've put out another call to fill our two empty spots.

A few of this week's games could have a major impact on the playoff field. Here's a look at each conference.
ACC Atlantic: This Division is in disarray, with Clemson (5-5, 4-3 ACC) and Maryland (7-3, 4-3)* leading. Clemson holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with a 33-9 win in Week 7.

*Correction (I think): Maryland was 3-3 in division at the time of this post. At least that's what I see from the games played.

The disarray has been resolved ... by Florida State.

Florida State (5-3 ACC, 8-3 overall) has clinched the ACC Atlantic with a win over a struggling Virginia squad (0-7, 0-11). Florida State has head-to-head victories over both of the other contenders for a division title, Clemson and Maryland, who may not even finish at 5-3. Clemson (4-3, 5-5) looks set to lose to NC State, and though Maryland (3-3, 5-5) has an early lead over Wake Forest, they would still need a victory next week against NC State to reach 5-3 in the division.

In nonconference action, Clemson will travel to South Carolina, and Florida State will head to Florida to finish out their regular season schedules.

Florida State will most likely take on either North Carolina or Duke in the ACC championship the following week.

(I believe all this is correct. I originally was looking at it cuz I thought I had a chance to make the ACC championship game, but I don't think that's the case.)

Yeah, I think you shouldn't take inter-conference games into account. If that means that a 5-2 or 6-3 (in conference play) team edges out a 5-3 team then that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Personally, I don't like bringing in some non-conference game just "to even it out." So, if I'm understanding what you're saying. I agree with you.

Amphibious -

Do you have a rule that +.500 coaches get their jobs back next year. I.e. they get an invite into the FBS tourney for next year (if you're doing one). I know the NCAA tourney has that rule, and I think it's a good one. I would recommend it if you do not have it as a rule already. Anyway, my question if you do have that rule: If my team finishes the season at .500 (which is possible), would I still be invited back because during my period "coaching" I've had better than a .500 record?

Thanks for the great tourney. Looks like I'll be done after next week, as I noted above.

Agentcom - I settled on teams with 4-win seasons getting an invite to keep their team next season. That way even if you're having a crappy season, you have something to play for at the end of the season rather than just going "screw it" and giving up on the tournament.

Also agent, you may be out of the running for the ACC title game, but there will be a run of regular bowl games in addition to the playoff bracket, so you still have something to fight for.

You are only allowed to have 50% in regards to players entered in a tourney before allowing public players--keep that in mind--you should be ok but you might start with 6 wins first and then if room permits go from there

Mountain West: The top two teams in the conference go head to head this week, with #10 UNLV (6-3, 3-1 MWC) visiting #12 Air Force (8-2, 4-1). The winner will have a major advantage in a conference with five, count 'em, FIVE ranked teams. #11 Colorado State (6-2, 2-1) is also lurking in the shadows.

With CSU beating UNLV --next week's game with AF will be even bigger :)

If you go by option 1, what are the possible outcomes? Will you go by winning pct?

MSU 5-3 (.625) or 6-2 (.75)
Ark 5-2 (.714) or 4-3 (.571)

Assuming I lose the Egg Bowl and fall to (5-7, 5-3) can I even qualify for a bowl assuming I go to the SEC championship game (Ark. loses)?

It appears Ark. lost the non-conf. game, so going by option 2 would be:
Ark 5-3 or 4-4

The tiebreaker would be head to head according to sec divisional tiebreakers.

Thanks. Fun tournament.

Rutgers rallies past Cincinnati to secure a bowl bid and improve their record to 7-4 following a 0-3 start. Coach Ricrem noted that after a horrendous first quarter that saw the Scarlet Knights fall behind by nearly two touchdowns, that he threw the playbook out the window and decided to go with a more aggressive play calling resulting in a number of crushing deep pass plays in the 2nd half. QB Chas Dodd noted that nearly all of the plays called in the 2nd half were a slight variation of the NFL Blitz play simply titled, Da Bomb.

I have blindman30 taking over Oregon, and if nobody wants to play out UTEP's games I'll those to him as well. Should blindman pull off a miracle against several ranked teams and take Oregon to 6-6, I won't send him to a bowl.
