Yes, Easter eggs were judged by public vote. The rules for the pumpkins do describe the contest differently than what occurred with the Easter egg. I wonder if this is to avoid it becoming a popularity contest- even with anonymous entries in the voting thread a player can tell everyone theyve met on cc to vote for entry #_. I was obviously not a part of the decision and I am not an artist so I don't enter these things, I am just taking a guess. I bet at least a few designs will be posted for public viewing pleasure eventually.
