Ah so the point of the map is to put wrong names on purpose. Sorry didn't realise that as some of them are right. Change UK to Ireland then...that should be interesting...t.e.c wrote:i think you're missing the point of the map..Ruben Cassar wrote:Austria instead of Australia? I support this idea. Also for Australia, maybe a red pen, as though by a teacher or a parent wrote in la? And soviet Union does not belong: a small kid won't write a country that was dissipated before he was born. Maybe replace Soviet union with Russia, Russia with more Russia and More Russia with Even more Russia? Just a thought.Guilty_Biscuit wrote:I love this map!
On the Africa names - Maybe call East Africa - Egypt. Maybe a drawing of some pyramids (probably not though).
North Africa could be Sahara Desert.

Yes it is perpendicular..but it doesn't look it because it is 'skewed'.Evil DIMwit wrote:It is perpendicular. Measure it yourself.Captain Crash wrote:Looking good!
Like the ruled paper look, however the red margin does need to be perpendicular to the blue writing lines.
I think this needs to be corrected.
I'm sure a kid would draw 'square' on the paper not at an angle across it, especially when it is ruled for them!
Canada - could be "North Washington"
East Africa - Egypt or Cairo
North Africa - More Rocko (as in Morocco - duh)
South Afica - (The) Horn
Love the 'al' in red pen idea... (Austr'al'ia)
Arabia might just be Iraq - that's all they'd've heard about it in the last 15 years!!
Not sure a 5 year old would know about Turkestan though? China they would've heard of?

I'm finally going to say it: I think you should have USA on here. If the theme is whole heartedly going to be a map that a kid would draw... where is this kid from? If he/she would get North America so wrong then I would expect huge errors elsewhere (like no greenland at all, Japan in the Atlantic, or coast lines that are shaped completely wrong). I like the reasonable errors (like "Austria") but I'd prefer a very simplified map to one that is simply wrong.
I say move the north border of Andes up, rename it USA and then fill most of South America with the Brazil territory (you could rename Brazil as "Andes Mts." or "Amazon" etc.). Having an overly large Washington is okay with me... or do a Canada and a French Canada? Canada and Canada Dry?
I agree with East Africa becoming Egypt.

I like it. I can't find anything wrong (except the title).

i love this map. its becoming one of my favorites.
the names tarzania, etc...
i agree tho- you cant be named DIM. sorry man but thats taken by another excellent cartographer.
are there going to be army circles? theyre not necessary but might be easy to add some that work well with the theme.
im all for CC Jr.
World .5 was funny too.

Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

Why would a kid name it East India? India alone is fine.
I don't like "Irakistan" nor the asian borders (which can be redrawn without affecting its layout) though I don't have much of a suggestion on the names other than rename "more russia" as "kung pow land" or something- the idea being only reason this kid knows what China is is because of the food ("made in China?"). Alternatively, you could keep the current Asian borders and have Japan instead of China- the kid doesn't know it's an island chain.
The slight skew that it appears to have is perfect for the theme, and the name "CC Jr." is perfect considering the subject material, though World 0.5 is an acceptable "serious" substitute.
Minor quibbles-
The lines between countries (ie: greenland-usa) need to not be straight. No kid can draw a line that straight. Curve it a bit and make it the same thickness as your border lines.
The arrows need to not be "perfect", in the same vein.
Ditto the text being curved along perfectly concentric arcs.
The border between Asia and Europe needs to be pushed closer as well all around. Draw them "on top of each other" the way a 7-year old would.

On the other hand, no offense meant to you at all, but this sort of unconstructive negativity is a bit of a post waster, and I think it would save everyone involved a lot of time and effort if we get the map finished first, and then debate its relative and absolute merits as a map.Teya wrote:Im going to have agree.
