What, and have him hand out all of his secrets for free.

He will probably start charging for them in the near future. ;)

EDIT:when do we get to see this new title? after the wait, it better be bloody brilliant. :D

CURRENT UPDATE INFO-2011-08-29:
- I redrew the little border that was in question, on the right side of the lake, separating MI-4 and TQ-C. It should now be much more clearly defined.
- I am submitting to be approved to use the 700x667 version as the small, which does make the map easier to read, and overall more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

In regards to your supersize application, I would like to first see a couple things.

Have you tried bolding the territory names? The text in the legend areas could be increased without a problem as you have plenty of room. Can you please try these couple of things first and post them? Then we'll make a determination from there.

Thank you

I'm working on a larger legend for all three versions.

Postby isaiah40 on Mon Aug 29, 2011 4:26 pm

Have you tried bolding the territory names?

With regard to bolding the text:

- Did you have a specific version you think that might help with? I'm not sure it will though (see below). Right now the text might be a little on the small side, but it is clean, and legible, even if small.

- The Small (630x600) version can not possibly support any larger text, and is pretty much as large as it will go and still keep the text clean, and legible, and not fuzzy. I realize it is small, but that is why there is the potential a need for a "supersize" small - Current Font Size: 8
- The Small (700x667) has a larger font than the 630x600, but does not have "bold" on because it was making the text blurry at that size. I was not able to increase the font size any larger. - Current Font Size: 9
- The Large(840x800) version text is pretty much as large as I can make it as well. There are a few areas where the text, icon, and army number will just barely fit comfortably, and any increase in size or bolding would push those over the edges of borders, etc. - Current Font Size: 10

Seamus, with regards to the small version, you have loads of room for the text to get bigger. You need to redraw the legend borders so you can accommodate it. Just from the edge of the map to the playing map, you have 79 pixels wasted at the sides (this is the nearest between the two points). Use them. Did not check going up but you have even more. I would like to see how the small looks after you have redrawn the legends to accommodate the larger text and not just have it scaled down so it is identical.

This one. Sometimes a bolding the text can make it appear like a slightly larger font size. I just would like to see the territory names bolded before the decision is made. The main area where the problem is IMO is in the panhandle.

CURRENT UPDATE INFO-2011-09-01:
This update mainly tries to fix the issues with the small (630x600) map.
- I enlarged the small map legend.
- Increased the font size and "bolding" on all of the small map text, including all of the territory names, etc.
- Adjusted any text and icons to make them all fit properly.
- Made same adjustments to large map so they would both be consistent.

I think the small map looks really good now. Thoughts?

P.s. Thanks for the push isaiah40.

Small one is much better. Thanks for the redraw. The writing is so much clearer and easier to read. I know it might look a little squashed but it is all clear now.

In your bonus legend, can you check the settings on Tribal Motherland as Tribal looks a tad different with the l looking slightly pixelated.

Thanks, that was a pain, but well worth it for sure.

I actually don't see the pixelation, but it could just be my monitor (or yours?). If anyone else notices it let me know. Also, I'm not sure it matters but it's actually Tribe "/" Motherland, not Tribal Motherland. But that begs the question, which is better? Could go either way for me.

Instead of tribe / motherland, how about homelands. Either one would be good, but move the / over one space. It is probably my monitor.

Typo on both maps: "opponant" should be "opponent".

I know, this title is killing me for some reason. I think I'm trying to come up with something beyond my skill set, and it's not working. If anyone has any suggestions or wants to lend a hand I would greatly appreciate it.

For a start I think the title font choice is all wrong. 'Pristina' is a very nice default font that would suit this map very well. Also the use of uppercase only doesn't work on the title. Finally the drop shadow is the biggest negative nothing else on the map has a drop shadow so it make the title look wrong.

Make these suggested changes and I think we might start moving in the right direction.

Seamus76...

I also think you need to split the title into two lines

Tribal War
- Florida

in that space where it is to fill that space better.

And you could probably think about using the elements of border from the legend on the title also somehow.

I am still not happy with that border near the lake that i raised earlier on, Now i can see the western line but not the bit under the purple, and i think those borders should show properly.

I really like the T and the title font...great job...but the actual placement doesn't sit well for me. it seems too spread out...can you center it more if possible
As for the MI4-TQC border...i'll leave for others to decide if that's better...i don't want to push my luck. ;)
I guess from the two 888s one can deduct there is two territories there.

The new title font is a step in the right direction good work. However I am still not 100% satisfied with the title and think it could be better yet. The main problem with the title is there is alot of dead space off to the right hand side of the title. Any idea on how this space can be filled?

Also I don't really like the red stroke you have used on the title, it feel inconsistent compared to the rest of your map. Maybe if you considered going with a solid black (and make the title thicker in the process) look on the title and make it more worn, sort of like this (minus the colours):

Image

I think the worn look for the title will fit the theme here much better.

Yeah, you're right. It was a good first step in the right direction but can certainly be improved. I'm going to keep working on it, but now that i have this initial positive step it will come easier. As for the empty space in the upper right, I have been looking at that for a while and have some ideas. Something like a totem pole or dream catcher that incorporates the signatures, or maybe just a warrior silhouette. I'm not exactly sure, and have been playing around with it, but haven't found anything that works just yet.

Seamus, with the axe, can you make the shaft longer so it goes behind the map. I like the dream catcher idea for the corner or the totem pole running down the whole right side might look good.
Any chance you can play with the colours of the font. Black is classic but a different colour might look better. Just have a play around are you are doing because you seem to be getting there.

Thanks Koontz. I'll definitely work on the axe and the right side. In earlier versions i had more of a washed out black title, which I think might even be better, but I know what you're saying. I'll play around with it.
