Journeys of Discovery – 6; David Livingstone Congratulations to our winners, aalii, CAPK8 and KraphtOne who won three games in the finals against Guderian, cptbeefalo and aad0906 My sixth journey of exploration and discovery follows the exploits of Dr David Livingstone (1813 – 1873) who was a Scottish medical missionary who, when his Mission was closed, explored the uncharted areas of Africa and the upper Zambesi River, searching for the source of the Nile, which had remained a mystery for over 2,000 years. Although he did not find it, he discovered the Victoria Falls and wrote books on the slave trade which helped to influence public opinion in England against it. (Not much difference here from your typical explorer type, I'm afraid.) Livingstone almost died several times from disease and attacks by wild animals but eventually succumbed from fever in 1873, having refused to return to Britain. His embalmed body, less his heart which was buried in Africa, was carried 1,900 miles to the coast by his two loyal servants, Chuma and Susi, before being shipped back to England where it was buried in Westminster Abbey.
In this tournament, you and your two loyal servants will battle against wild animals and tropical diseases (in the form of your fellow competitors) as you explore Africa and, hopefully, live to tell the tale.
