Guest Players?

Postby Lindax on Thu Jun 16, 2011 11:25 pm

I ain't in no clan at the moment and don't plan on joining one any time soon. Would it be possible though, to appear as a "Guest Player" in a clan war?

I'd love to participate in a 2 clan vs 2 clan challenge!

Lx

PS: Don't give a shit about medals, so you can keep the one I would win.

Well Lindax I'd install ya or I bet Saxlad would for the TNC/KOA vs Reapers/Devils 2v2 war. Since it would be a "no medal" game for you I can't imagine anyone having a problem with that.

Just clear it with jigger1986 and shaneback to make sure reapers/devils brigade doesn't oppose it. Or join with them. It would be fine with me.

This raises a couple questions for me.

1.Does this 2v2 war qualify for medals? I dont really care (although I would prefer a yes) but thats not going to change much for me.
2.How many games are we talking about?
3.Why dont you just join whichever clan you want for the war, with the intention of leaving after the challenge is over? (to keep things official and within the rules of a clan war)

1: There is no reason this war will not be medal qualified. The only thing is obviously not all clan members will be able to play enough games to qualify. We should get official clarification though I guess.

3: CC is against free lance players for clan wars but with the announcement of non-medal participation that would not be an issue.

I guess that's an option. I was just thinking that not every clan would like me to join temporarily and be able to read their forum, etc. I was more thinking of a kind of "waiver", so I could join in a clan war as a guest, without having to actually join the clan.

The game composition must comprise 100% Team Games. Recommended setup is 25% Doubles, 25% Triples, 25% Quadruples and 25% Choice of Team Games

I wouldn't mind you joining our clan at all :)

But yes you could join as a guest player, i don't see any reason why the clan directors should have a problem, although we should probably wait for an official ruling from jpcloet.

As for medals a conversation is currently ongoing between the 4 clans and the CD's

On surface emotions, the idea of "guest players" seems very wrong.

However, in reality, no member is typically restricted from hopping from clan to clan, which works out to essentially the same idea as a 'guest player.'

From a "fairness" standpoint, however, I'd suggest that the participating clans include discussion of the intention to have a 'guest' in their negotiations. After all, some clans' war chief do homework on players' best maps, so identifying who else they need to investigate is probably needed (as opposed to SURPRISE new player).

Re: Guest Players? [CD feedback please]

Is there a suggestion here, I see a bunch of ideas.

The basis of clans is the 1 clan rule. In theory if you are not in a clan you should not be playing for them. As an opposing clan leader in a war, I would not want a non-clan player helping to determine the outcome of the war.

So if you are not in a clan, what is currently stopping you from looking around, joining regular team games and seeing if you would like to join one?

he has already left a clan TSM i believe, my guess is he does not want to be in a clan for whatever the reason but still wants to play those type of competitive games and switch around who he plays them with. Anyway he could really easily do this by just joining clans and being a clan hopper but that might make clans worried about the fact that for a short time he can see their private forums and such. I don't really see the issue with this if the player is not in a clan as long as they are listed as eligible at the beginning of the war and are not involved in any other wars. This can and may happen without being officially sanctioned it will just make clans a bit more weary. My guess is that would only pertain to the top clans though and even then I know some clans let Georgerx7di (i believe) for articles with the dispatch so even that might not really be a factor clans consider.

Here are my thoughts...we are giving out privileges for this 2v2 war but there are no medals and it will not qualify for the ladder. You are not currently in a clan, so I would say, on this limited factual pattern, so long as all clans agree that you can join one of them (you don't want to ruffle any feathers) then there is not going to be a problem.

However, as JPC pointed out, we don't want to encourage "rentals" or "hired guns" in clan challenges so this opinion is not intended to apply to any other situation but this one.

Also, Masli is floating, maybe someone can talk to him about joining opposite Lindax as a "guest" ;)

I would like to see JPC agree with my position here before you rely on it. He is after all, my boss.

Masli once told me that a player is allowed to join as many clans as he wants... and can hop as many times as he wants..

no more than one competitive clan at a time though.

Ok, this is the closest to an answer to my question as it gets, thanks freak.

I would still like a definite answer to my original question though: "Would it be possible to appear as a "Guest Player" in a clan war?" I will add for clarity that the idea is not to actually join the clan, it would really be a "guest appearance".

Would that be possible or not? Would it be possible to get a waiver to do this, to make an exception to the rules? I guess jp needs to answer this and a simply yes or no would do.

I just thought it would be a fun idea.

For a non-medal challenge, I don't see why not if all parties agree. Outside of that, I'm not fond of the concept.

Hm, I quite like the mercenary idea. And I am all for it, because it will teach weaker clans how to operate and will provide a higher competitive level for the upper-handed clan. Also, you got to buy the mercenary with something, and this part is most intriguing. So I am all for it, would love them to appear, with maybe exclusion that some finals (and semis) cannot be played by mercs. Only for the normal wars I think. And no restriction about "freelancer means no medal". This is bullshit, as this guy will do the whole job (I think) or the same amount at least, why not give a medal out for that? Too much restrictions about having fun is not fun.

Clan wars are for clans and their players. If you want a temp assignment in a clan (and can follow the one-clan rule) go for it. All he (or she) has to do is join a clan involved. Once the war is over, they can choose to leave. If you want to label yourself a mercenary, go ahead, but at least the clan receiving the services is aware of the agreement. Clans are not really the place for players with commitment issues.

As much as I dislike sports analogies and clans, you have to sign a player for them to play in the games, even if it is only a 10 day contract.
