You guys all got it on explaining the retiring of #42, thanks. I suggested blue for the color of the number since Jackie played for the Dodgers, in many stadiums the color denotes that Jackie played for them, instead of the home team's colors.

The Fenway scoreboard idea has merit, and would be a great addition, I'm just afraid there isn't much room in that top corner for it. You could try and do just the box score part, (teams/runs/hits/errors) but if you could get the whole thing in there, the "At Bat" part with the number "3" in it would be perfect. (#3 was Babe Ruth's number)

Baseball is about stats natty, the scoreboard is pretty important, and it is in every ballpark at every level. If you can incorporate it in some way, it'd work out great, with the available space, going with a simpler form of scoreboard may be the best way to go.

I know off topic, but how the hell did Boston score a run in the bottom of the 9th as the home team leading by 6 runs?!?!

Well, he complains that the current scoreboard isn't "scoreboardy enough", then he asks me to take an actual scoreboard, remove half of the features from it so it won't be recognizable anyway, and use that...

I don't really see the point in making up team names and thinking up numbers for an imagined game to put up on the board... it's the players who are playing on this map, and their names change game to game, so why bother coming up with teams names...

I'd rather have something that looks nice and is maybe slightly unrealistic rather than try to reach for realism in a grotesque way.

The other problems with carl's suggestion are... you see how little space there is for the scoreboard? Especially on the small map. I believe the title needs to be visible and prominent. If we have to stuff that tiny scoreboard with team names, numbers and shit, we'll have a title so tiny that no one will realize it is a title.

I'd still rather scrap the whole scoreboard and go with what we had before. Maybe develop some kind of other background image for that area.

Ok rb I only saw your post after I posted mine... For you as well, I have to say, look at the space I have for the scoreboard, there's no way I can stuff all that stuff in there.

That makes sense too natty, if you can incorporate a scoreboard as a bit of background for the top corner with the original title, that might work out for the best.

Eh, the title and the scoreboard compete too much, the overlap isn't working for me...

I dunno about that, I'd like to see some more opinions on the matter though, maybe it's just me. My issue is only that the scoreboard is a bit too photographic. it doesn't mesh into the style of the map too well. (much like the penguin didn't mesh into Antarctica)

By the way, if the Turtles are the Home team, their name should be on the bottom, not the top.

How can it be too photographic when I drew it myself :-s

I thought I made it fairly simple...

Wow, it looks almost exactly like the Fenway scoreboard on an angle.

Ya, I'm not sold on the title on top of the scoreboard, and I see that my original suggestion might not fit on the small map. Maybe you can make the scoreboard really big and semi-transparent and put it behind the field so you can only see the top right of it (if that makes sense, I don't know exactly how to describe what I mean in graphical terminology).

Hm, I could decrease the opacity further. I could also try some very slight blurring to shift the focus more on the title.

I think the scoreboard should either be a graphic that is part of the title or a background. Right now it is its own graphic but is also supposed to be behind the title, and I don't think that works. As a background, it would give the feel that I think a few people wanted, but you can still put the title the way it was originally.

I honestly like that. It's not like it's overtaking the title, but it fills in the empty space quite nicely.

Might as well keep testing out different things. This map can't be stamped until one of your maps is out of the Forge anyways, natty ;)

What? Sure it can.

You have misunderstood something... there is no restriction on how many maps a mapmaker can have in the Final Forge at a time.

So... I take it from the lack of comments that everyone is happy with the title area?

Is there anything else that needs attention?

And also, do we have anyone to do the XML?

I still think you should enlarge the scoreboard (maybe twice its current size?) and put it behind the field (so the parts that overlap don't show through at all).

Right now, the detail behind the title is really distracting and it seems out of place. Specifically, the the contrast between the scoreboard and the background areas directly below and to the left of the scoreboard doesn't work IMHO.

Thing is, with a larger scoreboard, it would be so largely hidden that it would probably not be recognizable as a scoreboard at all...
