The best , most beautiful maps that I recall right now:
Eastern hemisphere
Macedonia
charleston
france 17 something
midgard, even if is a little too small
third Crusade
triple alliance
Ottoman empire
and Balkan Peninsula...thats the kind of maps that i like the most. Neat, good colors, nice legends, well distributed and historically enlightening

Re: Which map is the prettiest?
I've always appreciated thematic maps, in the sense that the gameboard takes on a persona of sorts---like High Seas, Indian Empire, Battle For Iraq!, Gilgamesh, etc.

I like the blues in AoR2, the teal in Treasures of Galapagos, and the soothing aesthetics in First Nations North America.

Re: Which map is the prettiest?
i was always partial to the "vomit" map that cooper put up in the foundry... but that was when the foundry had ZERO sense of humor and they just trashed the idea... who can trash impassable corn chunk borders?!!! anyway, now we have an entire genre of "vomit" maps like doodle earth and all the age of realm maps and people think they are cool... the original, the best and the prettiest, vace coopers vomit map... period...-the black jesus
p.s.-his hand drawn space map with astronauts and aliens was really cool too, but the foundry ran him off because it looked childish and "hand drawn"... he was so ahead of his time... and again, shows how the foundry crushed a young budding genius before he could ever flourish, because they didn't "get" it...

Re: Which map is the prettiest?
I went to start a game to look at all of the maps to make sure I didn't miss one I never played, but turns out I've played all the prettiest ones. Maybe I play them because I like to look at them? (hint hint mapmakers: looks do matter)
Japan, Midgard, First Nations,Thyseneal, Brazil, Iceland, Germany, Halloween Hallows, and Age of Realms 2(maybe I like it so much because I look at it all the time...I still think it's pretty)
Honorable mentions to: Classic, Age of Merchants, British Isles, Celtic Nations, Charleston, Chicago, Dawn of Ages, Eastern Hemisphere, Flanders 1302, Indian Empire, Wales, WWII Poland, and beta map Balkan Peninsula
Maps still in Foundry that already look better than most of the maps in use: Antarctica, California, and Pachisi

I'm not joking at all. Why would you say it's the worst map? Hive I can understand, due to the color monstrosity. But the colors on Conquer Man work very well together.Falkomagno wrote:haha...i know you are joking. is easily the worst map, together with the hive.Woodruff wrote:For my money, Conquer Man is a pretty map.

I don't know if I would call Conquer Man pretty, but I think it is certainly fitting and cool based on its theme.Woodruff wrote:I'm not joking at all. Why would you say it's the worst map? Re: Which map is the prettiest?
Japan, Midgard and Germany are perhaps my favourite looking maps. I hate the maps that are too cluttered and are too bright. Neutral colours are a vote winner.

Poker club - maybe some people even would not recognize that I'm playing risky.
As far as beautiful maps go, it's between Nap Empire and Atlantis.

Of our oldest maps (I.E. those developed in 2006, see this post for reference dates) that haven't gone through a REVAMP, I think Hong Kong has stood the test of increased Foundry Standards pretty well, compared to many of the other early maps.
