The Official Rules of WC4J's Thank You CC Cup *The tournament organizer has the final soy on any issues connected to the tournament and tournament play. *Random.org shall be used when randomness is needed.
The general tournament format is that all 56 players will play every other opponent in their division once (known as "round-robin), so that's 7 games for each player (each division has 8 players). Then players will be able to switch divisions (if they want to) after I send a simultaneous PM to them, first come first serve on who gets in. Then, after more round-robin play (another 7 games for each player), players will be able to switch again (as before), and they will play 7 more games (round-robin). So then 32 of the 56 players will advance and be seeded according to their number of wins, if there's a tie: by score they have when they joined. The format then is simple single elimination (but best of 7), which is great because anyone can advance: there could be some great upsets, so all players have to be in top form.
All this is explained below, I hope you at least skim it because the above is a super quick run-through. Thanks a lot.
All players will choose one of the seven divisions to join; there is one division for each of the seven maps. Each division has eight players. The Seven Divisions
Thus, all players are guaranteed 7 games in this stage (Stage 1).
Time to Switch Things Up---Selection of Divisions I (Stage 2) Players will have the opportunity to switch divisions, if they would like to, according to the procedure:
Play will then continue in the same way, with each player guaranteed another seven games, one game against each opponent in their division. Standings from this portion of divisional play shall be added to the initial standings from after the first 14 games.
Time to Switch Things Up...Again---Selection of Divisions II (Stage 3)
The Selection of Divisions shall take place again, in the same manner. (As another chance for you to get that division you might not have gotten earlier, or to try another one of the maps.)
Play will then continue in the same way, with each player guaranteed another seven games, one game against each opponent in their division. Standings from this portion of divisional play shall be added to the initial standings from after the first 14 games.
Therefore, after divisional play, all players will have played either:
21 games in one division (on one map)
14 games in one division (on one map), 7 games in a second division (on another map)
7 games in one division (on one map), 7 games in a second division (on a second map), and 7 games in a third division (on a third map).
(The formatting is thus entirely up to you: if you're good at one particular map, you can stick with it, or try another one if you begin to start falling in the standings.)
The better seed (which is the lower seed number) shall select the opening map for game 1.
The winner of game 1 shall select the map for game 2. The winner of game 2 shall select the map for game 3. The winner of game 3 shall select the map for game 4, etc. (Thus, players that are on winning streaks are provided a bonus, regardless of their seed; as long as you win, you will select the map on the next game.)
Maps shall not repeat during the series: therefore, if 7 games are played, each of the 7 maps in the tournament will be used.
The first player, in each series, to win 4 games will advance. The loser of each series is eliminated from the tournament. Thus, 16 players advance, and 16 are eliminated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Round 2--The Round of 16
The 16 players in this round shall be matched up into pairs of 2 and play in a series of 7, 1v1 games, according to seeds, with the best seed playing the worst seed, and the next best seed playing the next worst seed, etc.
The maps shall be selected according to the aforementioned Tide of War Factor.
The first player, in each series, to win 4 games will advance. The loser of each series is eliminated from the tournament. Thus, 8 players advance, and 8 are eliminated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Round 3--The Quarterfinals
The 8 players in this round shall be matched up into pairs of 2 and play in a series of 7, 1v1 games, according to seeds, with the best seed playing the worst seed, and the next best seed playing the next worst seed, etc.
The maps shall be selected according to the aforementioned Tide of War Factor.
The first player, in each series, to win 4 games will advance. The loser of each series is eliminated from the tournament. Thus, 4 players advance, and 4 are eliminated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Round 4--The Semifinals
The 4 players in this round shall be matched up into pairs of 2 and play in a series of 7, 1v1 games, according to seeds, with the best seed playing the worst seed, and the next best seed playing the next worst seed, etc.
The maps shall be selected according to the aforementioned Tide of War Factor.
The first player, in each series, to win 4 games will advance. The loser of each series is eliminated from the tournament. Thus, 2 players advance, and 2 are eliminated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Cup Championship
The last 2 players in the Cup shall play in a series of 7, 1v1 games. The maps shall be selected according to the aforementioned Tide of War Factor.
The first player to win 4 games is the winner of the tournament!

The exact schedule has been devised. It will be applied to all divisions at all times.
When a player joins a particular division, they are randomly placed into one of the 8 divisional slots, irrespective of when they joined. The players will then be matched up in the following format: Round 1 1 vs. 8 2 vs. 7 3 vs. 6 4 vs. 5
Round 2 1 vs. 7 2 vs. 5 3 vs. 4 6 vs. 8
Round 3 1 vs. 6 2 vs. 3 4 vs. 8 5 vs. 7
Round 4 1 vs. 5 2 vs. 8 3 vs. 7 4 vs. 6
Round 5 1 vs. 4 2 vs. 6 3 vs. 5 7 vs. 8
Round 6 1 vs. 3 2 vs. 4 5 vs. 8 6 vs. 7
Round 7 1 vs. 2 3 vs. 8 4 vs. 7 5 vs. 6
I plan to send each group their specific schedule, filling in the names of the players for the numbers, that follows this order.

In, I'll play Soviet Union to start. Current score 2401
I appreciate that; I'd much rather come up with a unique tourney than host a bunch of 16 player single elimination tournaments just to get my name up on the Organizer Hall of Fame
