It does not affect your points immediately, you do get an awesome medal if you win a tourney though.

Well you don't get any points for winning tournaments or something, but if you start playing a looooot of tournaments you usually start dropping ranks a bit. But it all depends on how many tournaments you play. It's all up to you wether you let it effect your points or not.
