Aw shit! You are indeed correct. (How embarrassing for the guy with the starter pistol...)

Indeed it has (suddenly!). Thanks for the heads-up. (And check out the preliminary storylines, if you're interested...)

400m Hurdles Finals Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Dec 26, 2010 3:20 pm

We now have our finalists for the 400 Meter Hurdles, and they are:
phantomzero4
Genoke5
ManBungalow3
hotfire6
MudPuppy2
Squirly7
nemrehs11
shoop76

Due to injury, shoop76 will not compete in the Finals, gaining 1 point for the Highlander Legends for that 8th place finish. So, in lane 1 we have nemrehs1. In lane 2, we have MudPuppy with ManBungalow next to him in lane 3. Lane 4 holds one of our two favorites in phantomzero with the other favorite next to him in lane five, that being Genoke. In lane 6 stands hotfire and in lane 7 is Squirly. They're set...and there's the gun!

Just a heads up that one of the heats on this map is terribly deadlocked Game 7783081. Is there an option of a tiebreaker with different settings?

Not saying no, but hang on and continue playing as if I won't...I'll take a look at it here in a bit when I have a chance. Thanks for bringing it up.

Yes, you are...whitestazn88 is a freemium, so I only send one of his games out at a time. But I'm glad to see you're paying attention - players paying attention has saved me a couple of times when I've messed up.

The same is the case for Heat 1, where Wendt100 and Adow are freemiums.

Glad you're enjoying it!

Track Meet - Standings Updated!

Postby Woodruff on Mon Jan 31, 2011 11:40 pm

Now that the Discus Finals (only the second event) have completed, you can see the updated standings in the second post in this thread. Currently, our three leaders show that the Cube Conquering DYNASTY is still in the lead with 19 points. However, the gap has closed tremendously, as the Goon Platoon checks in with 14 points and the Angels of Death are close by at 9.5 points.

Check out the page one standings to see where everyone else is lining up!

I just got invitations to 9 maps with two of them Conquerman and World 2.1 thatĀ“s all gonna be stalemate-parties with games taking forever. Is this really thought trough cause they very often ends up in stalemates even with escalating cards.

Draq, first please allow me to apologize for having just re-sent you the Triple Jump invitations again. I didn't see your post here in the tournament thread until after I did that, so I didn't realize you had intentionally declined them...I thought they had just "timed out" (for some reason, I didn't get the notifications like I do when they time out). Go ahead and decline them again and please accept my apologies for creating that work for you. I didn't mean to.

However, could you please also let BoganGod know your status for it? That way, he can find a suitable replacement without it negatively affecting the team. Thanks!

As far as "did I think it through", well yes...I did. There are a great many players who really enjoy playing with groups of people on the larger maps on the site, and so I wanted to incorporate that into the tournament (I really tried to incorporate as much as I could of things I knew people enjoyed). Obviously, the way to accomplish that best in a somewhat reasonable amount of time is with escalating cards, due to the size of the maps. As well, due to the amount of time it would likely take to complete, I decided that it made sense to put them into the same event, to avoid having multiple events with such huge maps. The Triple Jump event naturally gives me that capability from a logical standpoint. I didn't think through a few of the flat rate events, which have run into the serious stalemate issue...but that wasn't the case with this particular event.

Since I'm not particularly concerned about how long this tournament takes to complete, I don't at all mind games that are going to take a long time to complete. I would imagine that is the case for the players who have selected to play in this event.

I, for one, would say everyone in the tournament should have realized that this tournament is going to take a long ass time to complete. That's one of my favourite aspects of this whole thing, that it's determined on the best representative events rather than the quickest way to find a winner.

Hmmm...I'm disappointed that BoganGod signed you up without your acknowledgement. I guess I didn't expect something like that to happen.

Hi Woodruff,

I'm struggling to find the piece in the rules about what happens to our throw distances when a stalemated game reaches round 80 - can you point me in the right direction?

Cheers.

There is no rule regarding 80 rounds. If it goes past 80 rounds, then it goes past 80 rounds. That would likely NOT be to the benefit of the eventual winner though, so if someone is in a position where they can win the game, it would probably be in their interest to end it as quickly as possible.

Thanks woodruff,

Having re-read the scoring system I understand why 80 rounds got mentioned now. The light has finally come on

2011-01-23 14:44:23 - Woodruff: But since this is the Decathlon, we won't advance to the next Event until this one is completed.

Can't speak for all competitors, but I for one wouldn't object to starting on the next one, we're gonna be chucking shots for quite a while...

Normally, I would have no problem with it. However, we have two freemiums active in the current event still, so they won't be able to move on anyway.

400m Run Finals Storyline

Postby Woodruff on Sat Feb 26, 2011 12:01 pm

We're getting set to start the 400m Run Finals. Due to BoganGod's injury sustained in the preliminary heats, we will have only five competitors in these finals. In lane 2, we have dustin800. talia-thomas stands in lane 3, with Adow in lane 4. These two had quite a battle in the prelims, so it should be fun to watch them running side-by-side here in the finals. In lane 5 is mwcc, and ViperOverLord stands ready in lane 6. He should be comfortable there toward the outside, as he was in lane 5 in the preliminary heats, when he blew the field away.

The runners take their blocks, and the starter pistol is up. The gun sounds! mwcc is off to a very fast start out of the blocks in lane 5, with Adow right behind him in lane 4. dustin800 got a poor start, and will have to really run well to make up the ground. As they round the first turn, we have mwcc still ahead of Adow, with talia-thomas next in lane 3. ViperOverLord is holding his ground well in lane 6 and dustin800 brings up the rear. Moving into the final turn, ViperOverLord has begun to make ground against talia-thomas, even though he's covering more ground. mwcc and Adow are still very close in the lead. Coming into the straightaway, Adow is beginning to pull ahead of mwcc now and ViperOverLord is pulling back in front of talia-thomas...quite a finish by the Highlander Legends. At the tape, we have Adow with the gold medal, mwcc takes the silver, and ViperOverLord fights off talia-thomas for the bronze. dustin800 finishes the race in fifth place.

Our fourth event (400 Meter Run) has reached completion now, and we have a new current Team Leader. Congratulations, Cube Conquering DYNASTY! It should also be noted that Highlander Legends made quite a run up the scoreboard in this event, with two very high placings.
