Any way to minimizing the affect of luck
Hey all i know this game isn't all luck but in quite a few of my last games it seems as if thats what it boils down to, an assasin game won when the dude attacked with a stack of 7 vs 9, on doodle earth a dude getting a bonus plus first turn, a 9 stack wiping out my 8 stack with 5 troops left over and the list goes on. I know that there is strategy to this game and i'm picking up on a bit of it but how does everyone else work to reduce the role of luck to a minimum? Like what maps, game types and plays help to do this because right now i'm really frustrated at how a lot of these games boil down to the roll of the dice

The number one thing would be to try to put yourself in a position where the luck factor is not so determinate. Harder said than done, that being said here are a couple tips.
1. Dont play assassin games until you get a better feel for standard game.
2. Dont play large complex maps against high ranks (they just want your points)
3. Dont play freestyle games
To get a solid basis for the game you may want to consider the Society of Cooks. Its a great place where new players can get some experience against people of around the same rank. Although this game is similar to Risk, its not the same. The SoC can help turn a RIsk player into a well rounded CC player. Failing that, if you have any friends who also play CC, get them to play some doubles games with you.

If you're looking to minimize the effect of luck, I think I would recommend sequential flat-rate or no-spoil multiplayer games on a larger map. Because the map is larger, more dice will be thrown, making sure that luck has more of a chance to even out. You also aren't as vulnerable, so if you do run into a stroke of bad luck, it isn't as easy to eliminate you. Finally, if someone should pull ahead through luck, because it's multiplayer, the others can work together to restore the balance.

I have been trying to do the same thing lately and while I realize I'm not a very high level or anything I will say that I have had a lot better time playing world 2.1 sequential with no or flat spoils. it isn't too confusing of a map but is big enough for, as said earlier, for the dice to even out. Just my preference.

look, the dice doesn't always give you a win
my suggestion: BE PREPARED
be ready for the worst case scenario

Re: Any way to minimizing the affect of luck
Play on maps with starting positions with Standard/Terminator, Sunny, and No Spoils/Flat Rate (and preferably Sequential) as settings. The outcome of those games rely less on luck and more on patience (Feudal War and Feudal Epic are good maps to start with)

And if they dont suck then they blow.

ok ur playing doodle assasin that requires nothing but luck. it all is who is ur target and wat territories they start out with

The math of the game-engine is very flawed. So always keep playing until the end. You can be losing 75% of the game and still win in the end. Just because your opponents run into a losing streak. This is not a reallife strategy simulation.

Luck = your skill + opponent skill * number of opponents + drop + dice / perception * mood ^ goodness in your heart * number of games played * number of opponents you've pissed off / rank

Attacking with other balances than 3/2 are obvious who is in control. More interesting is the case where both have a lot of armies.
My calculation: After 7776 combinations of dice, the defender has lost 1316 more armies. So the attacker has 1 extra army in every 6 attacks.
Here is a link to the file http://sannemanrobinson.x50.cc/RISK-chance.xls, at the end there are the statistics.
