I seem to recall a push for mods for this forum in the past. LSU and Nag were having serious discussions with Andy about the possibility. IIRC, the concern mainly had to do with posing at night. Needless to say nothing ever came of it.

I just took a look over the last couple pages of this thread and I would like to add some input to some topics discussed.

1. A moderator here would only be a luxury, they would probably only be needed to move threads which a discussions mod would do.

-While this may be true, having a moderator for the proposed new Mafia forum would also give people a go-to guy in case of a question. Also, why not have someone who knows the game better than most moderate all of this?

2. Medals would encourage unwanted, unmotivated players to the forum

-I don't think this would be a huge problem. Of course, no matter where you go if there is something to be one there are people doing everything in their power to try and win it, albeit if they don't deserve/need it. However, for the amount of people that visit the mafia forum I think it would bring more fun to them than what the burden of having occasional, unmotivated players would cause.

3. Another note on moderators from me -
- Remember, if we put moderators here that they are member before moderator. They may not be extremely busy, but they would be someone for people to go to for whatever concerns they might have. Also, having its own moderator (or two) may make the mafia forum seem to have more of a place than, what it is to some, a mere sub-forum in SIB. This is a positive part of the CCommunity and I think it should be rectified thereof. I think too many people skim over and never bother to try it due to its lack of formality, but if we bring a more concise organization system to the table, more people might be apt to try it.

I'm still unsure about the medals. I don't think they should be handed out at the end of every game. I don't need medals to encourage me to play and neither do any of our current members. If you were deadset on medals, you should at least make the medals for winning a large number of mafia games, rather than a medal for every game like in the Tournaments. This way, players will have to stick around for a while before they recieve any medals. It should discourage some of the medal farmers and still give satisfaction to some of our older players here.

Also, can some of you mods explain the whole process to us? Do you just have to convince the admins to do it or is there some sort of formal process to starting a new forum? I'd be interested to hear what you guys are doing more in depth.

I have mixed feelings about this. I kinda like the informality, and really I wouldn't want this forum to become too overcrowded. I started in Mafia games maybe late September, early October, and I think I came in right before this surge in activity. At the time, there was only like 2, maybe 3 games going. I liked it, though, because everyone knew each other and seemed to enjoy it a lot, and that's what drew me to it. I think we are at a pretty good population right now, and the more experience everyone gets, I think the better the games will be. I've perused occasionally through some of the old games, and they seem quite epic. I think that once everyone settles in their own niches, then we could have some awesome games. Idk, maybe, maybe not.

I don't know if I would want a separate forum or a mod, but I guess that's just my opinion. The only thing I would like would maybe be like stats, like what games have been run, how recently, etc. etc., but honestly that sounds like too much work for not much payoff.

I don't like the medals idea at all. I don't want Blitz threads in here like- "1st to have score of 5000 w/ 100 games & 40 mafia medals" or some such nonsense.

But again, this is just my humble opinion.

It might not come at once, but if/when it does come, it would follow this chain (most likely): Forum is created, mod gets introduced later. I doubt the moderator would come at the same time, but it might. It depends on how we approach it. Nothing is final yet.

lol, No, medals for each game is ridiculous. I think they should maybe for multiples of games won or for special games organized by the potential moderator or very large games. Also, that could be another one of the moderator's duties -- monitor medal handouts. Discussions' members don't have access to the Medals Control Panel so we would need someone with access to it to organize that.

I thought I might add that some of the ideas that we use come from the community as a whole, so keep the discussion up here, and post any ideas you have, and know that your opinions will be taken into consideration. Also, it's not directly the admins decision, their approval is required, but the planning and organization involves all team members.

Yea, thats how I figured it would be. I doubt lack would want to start making a new branch of moderators if this didn't work out. I think if the forum is made, we should wait a month or two, see how much it grows and how it has been running, and then decide whether or not the mod is necessary.

Yea, I would support having medals for large mafia events and things like that. If we were to make medals otherwise, I would want the games won to be in fairly large increments, such as 10 for bronze, 25 for silver, and 50 for gold. If we get medal hunters in here, they won't last more than a game or two before they figure out how hard it is to win that many games. Meanwhile any mafia regular will view those increments as great achievements and it will have a positive impact on them.

Trust me as a player of the games in 2007 and the culture that was in mafia here at the time. We had a much larger base and it was a great thing. There was a more close group of people (the Esoog). Lots of epic games were able to be held and things went so much faster. I would love to see mafia grow large like that again.

One last proposal. Is it possible to have 2 or 3 representatives (veterans) in the forum to present, formally, our idea and discuss it, and then they can bring back the discussion mod's sights on this.

And discussion mods, how far away are we from getting this imposed? Is it unlikely, up in the air, coming in the next month, a long-shot?

I would say that it'll probably happen, but the timeframe isn't set.

Medals for forum stuff is a long shot I'd say. However, we've plans for early 2011 to better promote Mafia and other Forum games on Conquer Club, and bring a little more officialness to forum gaming community.
