Round 1: Triple Alliance
Welcome to the Amazing Race: History of War. This season, 33 teams will embark on a journey that will take them through the sites and history of famous battles that shaped the course of the world into the nations we have today. Each leg of the race has its own tricks and hardships that you all will have to overcome. If you fail to overcome the challenges of the round, you may face elimination. If you succeed, you will gain much-coveted points for your Tournament Players Association ranking. Although your immediate opponents may change every leg, your overall goal is still the same: finish ahead of the others for only one team may be crowned the champions of Amazing Race: History of War.
Although not the earliest war in this tournament, The War of the Triple Alliance typified the border-battles seen throughout the world as new nations tried to spread their influences over their neighboring lands. According to the description on the CC map, āWhen Brazil occupied Uruguay in 1864, Paraguay was cut off from the Rio de la Plata and the sea. Paraguay responded by invading both Brazil and Argentina, who would sign the Treaty of the Triple Alliance with the new government of Uruguay in 1865. War raged on land and on the rivers for five years. Some 400,000 would die from battle or disease in South Americaās bloodiest war.ā
The war set in motion several changes that defined the development of all the nations involved. This Great War (as itās called in Paraguay) devastated Paraguay, killing most of the countryās male population. The country was referred to as a republic, but only had its first democratic elections in 1933. The war led to the end of slavery in Brazil, the increase of the militaryās political influence, and a mountain of debt that hampered the countryās growth. Argentina consolidated into a nation-state and it was the last time Brazil and Argentina interfered with Uruguayan government.
The opening leg for this season will take place on the War of the Triple Alliance map. Created by oaktown, this map plays as one with standard gameplay with an aged graphics appearance. The traditional army circles have been replaced by other shapes that denote the countries where each region belongs. The ship guarding the mouth of the Rio de la Plata links the capitals of each nation, while the one-way attack provides Paraguay with a direct route to Argentina without the threat of retaliation. At the end of this leg, the three lowest finishers will be eliminated. Good luck.
