Yes, I know. <exceedingly dark look shot in oVo's direction>

Our own tournament organizer's team has had a dropout from the team, so I am now locating a replacement for his events. Should have one by tomorrow at the latest.

5,000m Run Finals Story Started!

Postby Woodruff on Sun Oct 24, 2010 5:12 pm

Here we are for the finals of the 5,000 meter run. This should be quite a strong race, as we have some big names in the track world participating. In lane 1, we have WPBRJ. In lane 2 is codierose with smasher_123 in lane 3. Next to smasher_123 in lane 4 is vykingsfan64. In lane 5 is BGtheBrain and HighlanderAttack is next to him in lane 6. In lane 7 is I_AM_BOGEY and last, but surely not least is lane 8 with squishyg. Should be a great race, though based on preliminary times it looks as though smasher_123, codierose and WPBRJ are the favorites to medal.

The starter's gun has sounded, and they begin their pace. From the beginning, WPBRJ seems determined to set a quick pace. He seems to want to "run the other guys out of energy", as he moves out in front. vykingsfan64, smasher_123 and codierose are right there with him from the beginning. squishyg, BGtheBrain, HighlanderAttack and I_AM_BOGEY seem content to rein back and let the others go, believing in their ability to gain ground when the rabbits wear out. At around the 3,000 meter point, vykingsfan64 has fallen off the pace, as he appears to be struggling now. He is still considerably ahead of the four toward the back of the race, but the other three in front are pulling away from him. Of the pack in the rear however, squishyg and I_AM_BOGEY have pulled in front, and appear to be making up some ground on vykingsfan64...perhaps they are making their push now, fearing they may have gotten too far behind the leaders. BGtheBrain and HighlanderAttack appear to really be laboring under the run and I suspect are out of the race for gold at this point. smasher_123 has held strong with WPBRJ right from the beginning, as the very fast pace doesn't seem to have affected him much. One has to believe that this was a team strategy, with the two of them being members of the Cube Conquering DYNASTY...they clearly trained specifically for the fast start and to hold off the others at the end, if necessary. But it wasn't particularly necessary...and now that they are coming around the final turn, it looks like smasher_123 is the stronger of the two. And yes, he takes the GOLD MEDAL, while WPBRJ settles for the SILVER MEDAL. The Cube Conquering DYNASTY really dominated this event by taking the top two spots, and since this is the first non-decathlon event to finish, gives them a commanding point lead at the moment. codierose easily takes the BRONZE MEDAL for the Angels of Death. vykingsfan64 comes in fourth, closely followed by I_AM_BOGEY and then squishyg. HighlanderAttack comes in seventh, holding off BGtheBrain, who was a late team pickup for The Legion, already paying off. The team standings have been updated.

Decathlon 100m Dash Finals Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Oct 24, 2010 5:24 pm

The finals of the 100 Meter Dash for the Decathlon Competition is about ready to begin. In lane 1, we have slowreactor. In lane 2 is downfall with denominator in lane 3. Lane 4 holds The Cheat and lane 5 has Slaylark. In lane 6 is Cognac. Ready in lane 7 is sonicsteve. Finally, Haggis_McMutton stands in lane 8. And they're off! Haggis_McMutton gets a tremendous jump out of the blocks, as does sonicsteve next to him in lane 7. Slaylark and denominator are also in with good starts. The Cheat is running well, as is downfall, though they're back a bit. slowreactor stumbles badly out of the blocks, and this is very disappointing as he had to be considered one of the favorites in the finals due to his tremendous preliminary run. Cognac also does not appear to be running well. It looks like lanes 7 and 8 are holding strong, and running side-by-side has to be helping them to push each other. As we come to the finish line, Haggis_McMutton edges out sonicsteve for the gold, with denominator taking the bronze medal. Finishing fourth is Slaylark, and close behind was downfall. The Cheat struggled with the last 50 meters, finishing 6th, and Cognac and slowreactor finished out the group.

Discus Prelims Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Oct 31, 2010 4:12 pm

And now we'll head over to our first field event, the Discus Throw. There are three prelim groupings.

In the first preliminary heat, we have the following throwers: Culs de Sac, MrBenn, stevieQ, shaneback, Greycloak, navyman2005, and plash.ricrem. And here they go with their first throws.

In the second preliminary heat, we have the following throwers: jghost7, BGtheBrain, Risky_Stud, vykingsfan64, the.killing.44, hotfire and shoop76. Let's see how they do with their first throws of this preliminary round.

In the third preliminary heat, we have the following throwers: Genoke, sherkaner, ender516, Squirly, Chewie1, pearljamrox2 and Woodruff.

Heat 1 is ready to start their first throws. This group is an interesting mix of experience and youth. First up is Culs de Sac. He's started his spin and launches...but he steps just out of the circle for a foul. That's too bad...it was a good distance. MrBenn enters the circle looking determined. He's into his windup and he releases! Oh, the judge has ruled that MrBenn has also fouled! In comes stevieQ. He's got the disc in his wrist, and starts his move. He stumbles out of the circle...what happened there? At any rate, it's another foul. Is our circle smaller than a standard circle? Somebody measure that thing! While we were jabbering about the circle, shaneback entered it and is set up to start. He begins his spin and releases his disc. He manages to stay in the circle, and his distance looks incredible! It's measured out at...84 feet and 0 inches! That's certainly enough distance to make the finals, I feel safe in saying. Excellent throw. Ok, Greycloak has now seen what the goal looks like, so let's see what he can do. Greycloak let's his disc go, but he's over the line and out of the circle himself - Foul! navyman2005 enters the circle now, and he appears a bit nervous. This is his first major track meet, and the adrenaline must be pumping! He begins his throw, but he has stepped out of the circle after his release! navyman2005 is going to have to get control of his nerves if he is going to do well here. Our final thrower of the first set is plash.ricrem, and he's ready to go. He begins his move and releases - but he fouls also! Folks, this is disappointing. Of the seven athletes, only one managed to avoid fouling. Of course, that one resulted in a tremendous throw for shaneback, but still...quite worrisome for everyone else. They're going to have to do better than that to make the Finals! Ok, we're ready for our second set of throws in heat 1, and Culs de Sac is up first. He steps into the circle, and begins his windup. He releases, but fouls again! MrBenn sets up. He was visibly upset with the official after having fouled his first time through, so we would expect him to be focused here. There he goes, and releases...but another foul! Oh, he's angry. He actually appears to be arguing with the official over the matter, but our replay clearly shows that he did in fact put the front of his shoe outside of the circle. It looks like MrBenn is allowing the pressure of the situation to get to him. He needs to back off before he's disqualified! Meanwhile, stevieQ is in the circle, patiently watching this exchange...he seems amused by it. Ok, MrBenn is out of the way, and stevieQ is prepping. He's into his windup, and releases...but he fouls! And he simply quietly walks off to get his disc. Next up is shaneback, who has no pressure on him at all, as his very strong first throw almost certainly has him in the finals. At any rate, here he goes with his second throw...he releases...and it's another very strong throw! The officials are measuring it...84 feet and 0 inches again, precisely what his first throw was. What are the odds of that? Well, he's certainly in form today. Greycloak enters the circle. He's set now, and starts his windup...and fouls! navyman2005 enters the circle for his second throw. He's ready...releases...it's a pretty good throw, but the official has judged him to have fouled again. Finally, we have plash.ricrem, for the last of the second set of throws. He's in motion and releases...for a second foul. Well folks, outside of shaneback's awesome display so far, we have zero competitiveness in the first heat of the discus throw. These athletes had better gather themselves, or he will be the only one of the group in the finals. So, the third set of throws are set to begin, and here is Culs de Sac. He's ready to go, moving up, and he releases...but he has stumbled. The throw is legal, as he avoided stepping out of the circle, but it's not likely to qualify for anything with a distance of 6 feet and 0 inches. MrBenn enters the circle for the third throw, and you know he's going to have his adrenalin pumping for this throw. He begins his move up, and releases. He didn't foul, and you knew he would be careful about that...and the throw comes to 66 feet and 0 inches. A very respectable throw for MrBenn. stevieQ is set, and starts his windup. He releases...not a great throw at all, but hits a distance of 22 feet and 6 inches. Better than the fouls, that is certain. shaneback is setting up for his third throw. He's been right on form, and will certainly be trying to put everything he has into this throw, knowing that he's going to be in the finals already. He winds up and releases...but put a bit too much into it as he fouls. Greycloak is up next. He sets the disc into his wrist and starts moving...releases...but fouls. navyman2005 still looks pretty nervous here. But he's ready to go and moving...releases...it looks like a strong throw...oh, but the official has ruled that he fouled! That's too bad...it looked like the throw might just be in qualification range...navyman2005 must be disappointed. plash.ricrem is set up now, and ready to go. He starts his move, and releases...but steps over the edge of the circle for a foul! That's it for Heat 1, folks.

Coming up is Heat 2. We have received word that shoop76 has had to withdraw thanks to injuring his massive pectoral on his right side (his throwing side) during warmups. jghost7 is the first thrower, and he gets set. He releases, but he has stepped over the edge of the circle for a foul. BGtheBrain is the relatively inexperienced member of this group, but he has shown promise athletically. He starts his move, and launches...but he fouls too! Next up is Risky_Stud. He puts his disc into his wrist and gets set - there he goes, but he steps out of the circle and fouls. Looking uncomfortable is vykingsfan64...he has to be wondering what is going on with all of the fouls. He's ready now, and begins his spin. Launches...but it's also a foul! Stepping into the ring is the.killing.44, who looks ready. He's set, and he launches...he clears well and gets off a monster throw. It measures out to an astonishing 84 feet and 0 inches - that's a lock for the finals right there. Talk about taking the pressure off of yourself! hotfire gets set for the final throw of the group. He spins and launches, but loses his balance and slips out of the ring for a foul. Hopefully, there will be a great deal of improvement for the second set of throws, as that was highly disappointing. jghost7 is ready to start, and here he goes. He releases...but he has stepped over the edge of the circle again for a foul! Next up is BGtheBrain. He climbs into the circle and prepares. Here he goes...his momentum carries him out of the circle for his second foul also. Risky_Stud is next, and he looks ready. He starts his spin, and releases his disc...but also steps out of the circle. vykingsfan64 looks determined. He locks his disc into his wrist, and begins...he gets a good throw...nice distance...but the judges rule that he just barely left the circle himself. That's also his second foul. It's contagious out here, the fouling. the.killing.44 steps into the circle. No pressure here, as his first throw locked him into the finals as a certainty. He starts his spin, and releases another monster throw. It's measured out...and matches his previous 84 feet and 0 inch throw exactly! What are the odds of that? He has to be feeling very confident now, since he knows he's "in form" and ready to go for those finals, indeed. hotfire is next to throw, and this will be the last competitor of this set of throws. hotfire begins his move and launches...but fouls! So out of two sets of throws, only the.killing.44 has avoided fouling. That's...well, "disappointing" would be a severe understatement. If these competitors want to advance, they'd better get on their game! And we're ready for our third and final set of throws for this heat. First up, once again, is jghost7...and here's his throw attempt. He's looking determined, and is ready to go. He releases...oh, it's a beauty! No foul, so the officials measure...and it's 84 feet and 0 inches, equaling the two tremendous throws by the.killing.44! BGtheBrain is next, and he's started his motion. He releases, but he steps over the circle. Risky_Stud needs a good throw here, as he is yet to even qualify. He puts the disc into his wrist and starts his spin...release...but steps over the line yet again. How disappointing. vykingsfan64 has also fouled twice, so needs to get things right here. He starts his motion and releases...but stumbles as he does so. He doesn't foul, he was certainly being careful of that...but it was ugly. The distance measures out to 6 feet and 0 inches. Next up is the.killing.44, who certainly doesn't need to be careful. He's in, so now he's just working on technique, most likely. He's set up, and starts his motion...releases...but has fouled this time. I guess he's been watching everyone else too much...it rubbed off on him. hotfire steps into the circle now, needing a good throw. He locks in his disc, and begins his spin...releases...it looks good, but he has fouled I see. That's it for the second heat, folks.

Heat 3 is getting ready to enter the circle for their first throws. Genoke is the first up. He starts his motion, and gets his spin. Oh, but he fouls off the edge of the circle! Up next is sherkaner...puts himself in motion and releases...but he's also over the edge! ender516 walks into the circle to begin his preparations. He sets the discus into his wrist and begins - another foul! Is it nerves with these guys? Next up is Squirly. He starts his spin, and releases - what a throw! It's measured and...84 feet and 0 inches! An incredible throw, literally guaranteed to proceed into the finals. Well, that will take the worry off of his shoulders...but undoubtedly it adds to the other throwers in this heat. Chewie1 seems impressed with Squirly's throw as he climbs into the circle. He starts his motion and releases...but his foot slipped over the circle edge for a foul. Next up - pearljamrox2, who is settling in. He begins his throwing motion, but has also stepped over the edge! Nervous is the look that would best describe Woodruff best, as he climbs into the circle...clearly, he's sensing an opportunity here if he can just take advantage of it. He sets himself and begins his spin...he launches...but he's stepped off the circle! Unbelievably, six of the seven have fouled and the seventh threw an incredible disc! Getting ready for the second set of throws now. Genoke steps up...and steps out, once again fouling. This must be very frustrating for the young person. sherkaner takes his place, and starts his spin...fouling again! ender516 brings his disc into the throw area - begins his throw and fouls! Squirly is ready again...no pressure on this one, as his last throw pretty much locked him in. But he gets a bit careless and fouls on this second throw. Chewie1 sets up for his second throw. Spins it out and steps over the edge - foul! Next up is pearljamrox2. Sets the discus, and starts up. Good release - and manages not to foul. That's quite a throw...the measure is 84 feet and 0 inches, exactly equal to Squirly's first throw! Quite impressive. One wonders though if too much force isn't being applied here, causing all of the fouls. Perhaps a bit more caution? Finally, Woodruff is up for his final throw. He goes into motion...and fouls! Where did these teams get these jokers that don't even know how to throw a discus? Well, things are still open for the finals, if someone wants to make a move with their third and final throw, coming up next. Genoke is in the circle, and prepped to go. He starts his spin and fouls a third straight time! In comes sherkaner, not looking very confident after his own set of fouls in the last two throws...he releases the disc and he's clean! The measurement comes in at 57 feet and 0 inches. A good throw that has a chance for the finals. ender516 is next up, and he looks ready. He starts up and releases - but steps over the edge for a foul! Now it's Squirly...who undoubtedly will be putting everything into this one after his incredible first throw...he just has to avoid fouling when he does it. But there it is, a second foul! Chewie1 stands in - he's set and ready to throw. There's the release, and it looks like he's hit a minimal distance of 30 foot and 9 inches. He was probably playing it too safe trying to avoid the foul. pearljamrox2 is up next. He sets the disc into his wrist and starts his motion - releases, but he's over the edge! And finally we have Woodruff, trying to avoid his third foul also. He's set up, and starts his spin...but he's over the end for a foul, as well! Very disappointing.

So, here's what we have for our eight finalists:
MrBenn
shaneback
jghost7
the.killing.44
sherkaner
Squirly
Chewie1
Pearljamrox2

400m Hurdles Prelims Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Oct 31, 2010 4:16 pm

Here we are with the 400m Hurdles. There are only two preliminary heats for this event, so four competitors from each heat will advance to the finals. This combination of the 400m Run and the 100m Hurdles is certainly an endurance event, despite the short distance. Not too many competitors are brave enough for this very difficult race.

In the first heat, we have ZionT in lane 1. We have phantomzero in lane 2. shoop76 is in lane 3 alongside ManBungalow in lane 4. MudPuppy is in lane 5. flexmaster33 is in lane 6, with Tupence in lane 7 and SirSebstar in lane 8. There goes the gun! Off to a quick jump from the blocks are MudPuppy and shoop76. Everyone else is right there behind them though, as no one stumbled out of the blocks. As they're through the first 100 meters, flexmaster33 has started to move up into the fourth spot and ManBungalow has separated himself into third while MudPuppy and shoop76 continue in front. In fifth is ZionT, followed closely by phantomzero, Sir Sebstar and Tupence. Halfway through the event, MudPuppy and shoop76 still in front, but flexmaster33 seems to be losing something as ManBungalow has pulled into third. phantomzero has passed ZionT and appears to be closing on flexmaster33, while Sir Sebstar and Tupence are still struggling. With only 100 meters to go, we have MudPuppy, shoop76, ManBungalow and the hard-charging phantomzero, who is putting in an incredible charge and is quickly gaining on everyone, having already moved into fourth place and right behind ManBungalow! Following back a bit are ZionT and flexmaster33 and a full hurdle behind them are Tupence and Sir Sebtar, in that order. Coming down the stretch, phantomzero is trying desperately to complete his comeback as he is charging right up on ManBungalow, who has pulled into the lead. MudPuppy and shoop76 are battling for third, with everyone else still in the same order. At the finish line, phantomzero just edges out ManBungalow for the first place finish in the heat and MudPuppy comes in third. shoop76 appears to have injured himself over the last hurdle...he's going to finish in fourth thanks to the distance he had put between himself and ZionT but this doesn't look good for him in the Finals. ZionT comes in fifth, with flexmaster33, Tupence and Sir Sebstar finishing it out in that order.

In the second heat, murphy16 is in lane 1, with b00060 beside him in lane 2. In lane 3, stands nemrehs1. Lane 4 has hotfire with Genoke in lane 5. Evil Semp is in lane 6, with Squirly next to him in lane 7. CrashAWC stands in lane 8. And they're off with the starter pistol. Evil Semp has a good jump out of the blocks and reaches the first hurdle before anyone else. CrashAWC has stumbled out of the blocks however, and has slipped behind everyone right from the start. At the 100 meter point, we have hotfire, Evil Semp and Genoke out in front of everyone. In fourth place is Squirly, followed by nemrehs1, murphy16, b00060 and CrashAWC. At the halfway point, hotfire is still in the lead but contested closely by Genoke and Squirly. Evil Semp has dropped back to fourth place, followed by murphy16, nemrehs1, b00060 and CrashAWC. As we reach the last 100 meters, Genoke has pulled out in front, but he is still followed tightly by hotfire and Squirly. Considerably back is nemrehs1 in fourth place. In fifth is murphy16, followed closely by Evil Semp. b00060 and CrashAWC are far back and clearly out of the race. At the finish line, Genoke crosses first, just ahead of hotfire. Squirly comes in third, and eventually nemrehs comes in at fourth, followed just behind by murphy16 and Evil Semp. b00060 finishes seventh and CrashAWC in eighth.

So, we now have our finalists for the 400 Meter Hurdles, and they are:
phantomzero
Genoke
ManBungalow
hotfire
MudPuppy
Squirly
nemrehs1
shoop76 (due to injury, will not compete in the Finals, gaining 1 point for the Highlander Legends)

200m Dash Prelims Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Oct 31, 2010 4:28 pm

Let's get the 200m Dash Preliminary Heats started. We have three of them for this event.

In Heat One, we show Gold Knight in lane 2 with WPBRJ next to him in lane 3. In lane 4 stands nesterdude. Lane 5 has nemrehs1 with thegreekdog in lane 6 and hmsps in lane 7.

Heat Two has Risky_Stud in lane 2 with nick_la_trique next to him in lane 3 and Wendt100 in lane 4. BigBallinStalin is in lane 5. jpcloet is in lane 6 and HighlanderAttack is in lane 7. We have received word that unfortunately, Wendt100 has had to pull out of the 200m Dash, due to some gastronomical aftereffects of having had leftover sushi from a party two days earlier, that he found sitting out on the fireplace. It was still good, right? At any rate, on with the race...the gun fires, and they're off! This is looking like a tremendous race, as they take the turn...nick_la_trique is in the lead, just barely ahead of BigBallinStalin and jpcloet. Out in lane 7, we have HighlanderAttack neck-and-neck with Risky_Stud in lane 2, not far at all behind the others. As they move into the straightaway, jpcloet is starting to pull away a bit in lane 6 and looking strong, with HighlanderAttack beginning to slip just back a bit behind the pack...the others staying tightly bunched right behind jpcloet. Coming down the stretch, jpcloet is going to win this heat. Oh, BigBallinStalin has stumbled! Will nick_la_trique be able to take advantage? He's close! No, BigBallinStalin just barely manages to hold off nick_la_trique for second place in the heat, with nick_la_trique finishing third in the heat. Risky_Stud comes in fourth and HighlanderAttack finishes off the heat in fifth. So jpcloet and BigBallinStalin advance to the finals, and nick_la_trique may have a shot at scoring a point or two, depending on how his time compares to the other two heats.

For Heat Three, Greycloak stands in lane 1. In lane 2, we have flexmaster33 and lisbon101 in lane 3. Baron Von PWN stands in lane 4 with CrashAWC next to him in lane 5. We show 4 U 2 NV in lane 6 and Evil Semp in lane 7. They're off with the gun! Greycloak, lisbon101 and 4 U 2 NV all got tremendous starts and have taken the lead from the outset. Following them is the group of flexmaster33, Evil Semp, Baron Von PWN and CrashAWC. Midway through the turn, lisbon101 has slipped a bit behind Greycloak and 4 U 2 NV, with those two still battling for the lead. Evil Semp has pulled into the fourth slot, with Baron Von PWN, CrashAWC and flexmaster33 falling back from him a bit. Entering the straightaway, it is still Greycloak and 4 U 2 NV still neck-and-neck, lisbon101 in third decisively, followed by Evil Semp strongly in fourth. Then follows Baron Von PWN next to CrashAWC, with flexmaster33 falling to the rear. Here we are at the finish...4 U 2 NV just beats out Greycloak for the best time, with lisbon101 coming in third. Evil Semp finishes in fourth. CrashAWC beats out Baron Von PWN for the fifth spot, and flexmaster33 pulls in to the gate last. What a great race! This means that 4 U 2 NV and Greycloak advance to the finals, and lisbon101 may have a shot at scoring a point or two, based on final time.

Decathlon Long Jump Prelims Story (updated)

Postby Woodruff on Wed Nov 03, 2010 8:11 pm

Let's turn our attention back to the Decathlon, where the Long Jump is getting the preliminary rounds underway. There are two Long Jump preliminary heats, and they break out as follows:

Heat 1: lurkerleader, downfall, Haggis_McMutton, denominator, anonymus and The Cheat.
Heat 2: AgentSmith88, Slaylark, slowreactor, sonicsteve, Cognac and Gilligan

Each long jumper will get three jump opportunities, with only the longest jump for each contestant counting toward qualifying for the final round:

Heat 1 is beginning their first set of jumps now. The first to make the leap is lurkerleader. But lurkerleader has some difficulty with his steps, and fouls at the board. downfall is next. He starts his run down the lane, and looks to be at a good speed. He makes the leap, but doesn't do particularly well, as he ends up with a jump of only 1 foot and 9.5 inches. That has to be very disappointing for the Legionairre. Haggis_McMutton gives the signal that he is ready to start, and here he comes. Another foul at the board! denominator is on the run now, and he is at quite a speed...he makes a legal leap and hits a distance of 9 feet and 6 inches! Well done there. anonymus is ready for his jump, and he comes down the lane at speed. There's his jump...he was clearly concerned about fouling, as he left the ground way ahead of the board. That shortened up his jump considerably, and he didn't even out-jump downfall...ended at a distance of only 21 inches. Finally, The Cheat's turn is up. Coming down the lane with decent speed...and he fouls! So, with only three qualifying distances and only one of those having any hope at all of finals qualification (that being denominator's), we move to the second set of jumps. lurkerleader takes his place on the runway, and begins his charge...and he fouls again! That puts the pressure on him for the final jump. downfall is next up, and here he comes. His last jump was a mere 1 foot and 9.5 inches, and he only just barely improves on that with his jump of 2 feet, 0 inches. Still, it is improvement, but he will need to do far better on his last run! Here we have Haggis_McMutton coming down the runway. His foot was over the board again, for his second foul, and he finds himself in the same boat as lurkerleader. denominator is up next, and he's certainly not feeling any pressure given his first jump. We know he's almost certain to be locked in for the finals, so he can be aggressive on this jump. He hits the board and he's off! denominator comes down at 8 foot, 0 inches...not nearly as strong as his first leap, but a good one nevertheless. He is obviously jumping well today. anonymus looks ready to start his run, and here he comes. His last jump of 1 foot, 9 inches needs improvement. He hits the board legally and comes down with a 3 foot and 5.5 inch jump. Good improvement, but I'm not sure that's quite good enough to qualify for the finals, so he may still have some concern for his final jump. The last jumper of the round is The Cheat, and he's headed down the lane. He hits the board, but the front of his foot was in front of it - another foul! So, we have three jumpers who have yet to make a legal jump - they're going to have to make it happen this next and final round. The first jumper, lurkerleader is back on his spot and ready to go. Coming down the runway...a third foul for lurkerleader! He won't be advancing. downfall is next up, and he begins his run. Hits the board, but again he's fouled! The third jumper is Haggis_McMutton, who like lurkerleader has fouled twice already. He hits the board, and gets a bit of distance, coming down at 3 feet and 3 inches. At least it's some hope for the finals, I suppose. denominator is up, and he's certain to try to really knock this one out, given that he's currently the distance leader. He hits the board, but his toes were over a bit, as he fouls. No harm though, as he's certainly advancing already. anonymus takes his spot, and comes down the runway hard. He hits the board well, and reaches a mark of 9 foot and 6 inches. Good hope for finals qualification there. Our final jumper is The Cheat, who is hoping for a legal jump here. He stumbled a bit as he came to the board and stepped over! Foul.

Heat 2 is ready to make their first effort at this point, so let's go there. AgentSmith88 gets the first opportunity. Oh no, AgentSmith88 fouls as he steps over the board. Here goes Slaylark. Now, this is odd. Slaylark stumbles a bit at the board, and similarly fouls! It is now slowreactor's turn, and he starts his run. slowreactor hits the board quite well, and this looks to be quite a jump! The measurement is complete and the word we get is that slowreactor jumped a whopping 12 feet and 6 inches! That's almost certain to qualify for the finals, so he's feeling very good about his effort. Next down the line is sonicsteve. He pulls up right at the board, and looks like he may have tweaked his hamstring, possibly...just stepping over the board, he fouls...but I am sure that is the least of his concerns at this point. Here comes Cognac. Cognac fouls at the jump! Our last jumper of the set is Gilligan, and he has quite a bit of speed coming down the line! But stumbling near the end, he steps over the board and fouls also. So through the first round, we had only one qualifying jump, that being slowreactor's. And that jump looks certain to qualify for the finals, as it was a good one. He can rest pretty easily, as he looks to ride that jump into the finals. So let's get ready for the second run of jumps. AgentSmith88 is up first. He was over the board again, fouling! AgentSmith88 is going to have to be careful on his third jump, if he is to have any hope at all of qualifying for the finals! Slaylark then comes to the run, and makes up for his first-jump fouling mistake with a strong leap. He's measured out at exactly 8 foot! Much better, but probably still needed a bit more distance to reach the finals. slowreactor is up. Clearly, slowreactor decided to be aggressive given his tremendous first jump, as he has fouled on this one? Doesn't appear to concern him much, and who can blame him - he may as well go for the glory with his almost certain placement in the finals secured already. sonicsteve coming down the runway...the hamstring looks as though it may still be bothering him. He didn't foul, but didn't get nearly the speed he needed, with a jump of only 3 feet and 5 inches. Cognac at the ready, and coming down the lane...he hits the board, but again was a bit over! That's Cognac's second foul, and like AgentSmith88, is going to have to make sure to get his steps right for his third jump. Gilligan is coming down the runway now, and hits the board ok, but not with any ferocity. A short jump of only 1 foot and 9.5 inches. Disappointing, though certainly better than his foul on the first jump. Here we are at the final jump for these contestants.
AgentSmith88 is set to come down the rail, and here he goes...he hits the board, but it's a foul! Looks like AgentSmith88 won't be making the finals. Next up is Slaylark. Slaylark hits the board, but simultaneously lost his balance and reached a distance of only 1 foot and 9.5 inches for him. Fortunately, he's almost certainly in the finals already. That is likewise the case for slowreactor, but he's ready for his third jump anyway. Foul! sonicsteve is now on his way down the runway...he hits the board, but his toes were over and he's fouled also! Things are looking grim for sonicsteve now... Cognac up, and here he comes...hits the board, but a very short jump at 1 foot and 11.5 inches. Can anyone get a decent jump this heat? Well, we know that Gilligan needs one, certainly...as he currently is out of the finals. Here he comes down the run. He hits the board well, with a decent jump. Hits a distance of 9 feet and 6 inches!

So...we have our finalists between the two heats, and they are as follows:

slowreactor, with a best jump of 12 feet, 6 inches
denominator, with a best jump of 9 feet, 6 inches
anonymus, with a best jump of 9 feet, 6 inches
Gilligan, with a best jump of 9 feet, 6 inches
Slaylark, with a best jump of 8 feet, 0 inches
sonicsteve, with a best jump of 3 feet, 5 inches
7th place goes to Haggis_McMutton with a best jump of 3 feet, 3 inches (just two inches short!)
8th place goes to downfall with a best jump of 2 feet, 0 inches

400m Run Prelims Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Nov 07, 2010 2:56 pm

The 400m Run Preliminary heats are ready to begin. For this event, we have three prelims, and they are laid out this way:

In Heat One, we show sherkaner in lane 2 with MrBenn next to him in lane 3. In lane 4 stands dustin800. Lane 5 has BigBallinStalin with mpjh in lane 6 and BoganGod in lane 7. They're set...and there's the gun! BigBallinStalin is off to a quick start, alongside of BoganGod. Just behind them is the rest of the field. Through the first turn, BoganGod is looking very strong on the outside and dustin800 is really gaining some serious ground on BigBallinStalin and mpjh to his outside. BigBallinStalin is beginning to fade a bit already, and nothing much else has changed. Into the second turn and dustin800 is really moving in, already having now passed both BigBallinStalin and mpjh. Also moving very well, BoganGod is still out front in lane 7. MrBenn is hanging tough right behind dustin800, with mpjh now falling back considerably. And the leaders are coming down the stretch, with dustin800 out in front of BoganGod and MrBenn. sherkaner is in a solid fourth position, with mpjh and BigBallinStalin pulling in the rear. Oh, BoganGod is pulling up lame right as they near the tape! As they cross the line, here is the finish order...dustin800 wins the heat. BoganGod limps across the line, followed closely by MrBenn. Then sherkaner, BigBallinStalin and finally mpjh. There will be some question as to whether BoganGod will be able to compete in the finals.

Heat Two has stevieQ in lane 2 with b00060 next to him in lane 3 and vykingsfan64 in lane 4. lisbon101 is in lane 5. talia-thomas is in lane 6 and Adow is in lane 7. The runners have moved into their lanes. The starter pistol is up...and sounds! lisbon101 gets the best start of the group, and Adow is considerably slow out of the blocks. No false starts though! At the end of the first turn, Adow is looking strong and has started to make up some ground he lost on his start, with talia-thomas neck-and-neck with him. The two outside lanes are even pulling away a bit from the inside lanes! stevieQ is looking strong on the inside, as is vykingsfan64. At the end of the straightaway, Adow and talia-thomas are still our leaders with talia-thomas pulling just a smidge ahead in the inner lane. lisbon101 is now struggling badly in lane 5, as is b00060 in lane 3. vykingsfan64 has passed stevieQ, but they're pretty neck-and-neck for the third spot. Coming out of the second turn and into the final stretch, we've got talia-thomas in the lead, just barely ahead of Adow. vykingsfan64 and stevieQ are battling it out for the third spot, and lisbon101 close by b00060. As they cross the finish line, Adow makes a strong surge to win the heat, and talia-thomas comes in second. vykingsfan64 finishes third in the heat, with stevieQ coming in fourth. Then lisbon101 and finally b00060 to finish things off.

For Heat Three, chiefsfan4ever stands in lane 1. In lane 2, we have smasher_123 and mwcc in lane 3. jwithington stands in lane 4 with ViperOverLord next to him in lane 5. We show DukeHazzard in lane 6 and nesterdude in lane 7. The pistol is up...and they're off! ViperOverLord gets a tremendous start in lane 5, as does chiefsfan4ever on the inside. DukeHazzard was a bit slow out of the start, which is unlike him. Through the first turn, ViperOverLord has already passed DukeHazzard and nesterdude to his outside, as he surges ahead. nesterdude is in the second spot, with DukeHazzard close behind. On the inside, chiefsfan4ever has blown by smasher_123 and mwcc, as well. As we finish out the first straightaway, ViperOverLord is way out front and cruising easily. jwithington is struggling badly in lane 4, as it appears he may be injured...he just doesn't look like he's running well. chiefsfan4ever appears to be losing some of his steam, as he's losing some ground to the other runners...perhaps he started out a bit too quickly. nesterdude is likewise flagging, though to this point he's still holding on to a decent position. smasher_123 has picked this point to make his move, as he is coming on strong alongside DukeHazzard. mwcc is also running very well. Coming out of the second turn and down the straightaway, jwithington is solidly in the back now, with nesterdude and chiefsfan4ever also falling quickly. ViperOverLord is in complete control of this heat and will surely win it. mwcc and Smasher_123 are battling for the second spot, with DukeHazzard locking in at fourth. As they cross the finish line, it's ViperOverLord easily winning the heat. mwcc edges out smasher_123, and DukeHazzard indeed finishes in fourth. nesterdude finishes fifth, with chiefsfan4ever and jwithington finishing in the last two spots, in that order.

400m Relay Story

Postby Woodruff on Sun Nov 07, 2010 3:08 pm

Here we are with the 400m Relay. There are no preliminary heats for this event, so we start right off with the Finals. For that reason, we'll head over to our extra-wide track so that we can fit all of our participating teams into the Finals at the same time. Here are the lane assignments:

Lane 1 is Angels of Death - Gold Knight, jpcloet, jghost7, murphy16
Lane 2 is Death By Comity - sHo0t4u, Juan_Bottom, notyou2, DukeHazzard
Lane 3 is Highlander Legends - shoop76, jricart, shaneback, Leehar
Lane 4 is Cube Conquering DYNASTY - theTrueNorth, talia-thomas, safariguy5, dupa
Lane 5 is Illiterate Basterds - the.killing.44, ManBungalow, Army of GOD, Serbia
Lane 6 is Goon Platoon - hmsps, lordhaha, Edgron, 4 U 2 NV
Lane 7 is Valued Mods - clapper011, MrBenn, TheForgivenOne, SirSebstar
Lane 8 is The Legion - Tammy DeLee, Culs de Sac, CrashAWC, Mustapha Mond
Lane 9 is More Valued Mods - ljex, squishyg, mpjh, Evil Semp
Lane 10 is Super Duper Friends - mviola, ZionT, b00060, Baron Von PWN

There's the starter's gun, and they're off and running!

Through the first half of the first leg of the race, there are several teams who have separated themselves from the pack. Pulling ahead quickly are the Highlander Legends, The Legion, Angels of Death, Illiterate Basterds, Goon Platoon and the Super Duper Friends. Struggling right away are Death By Comity, More Valued Mods, Cube Conquering DYNASTY and the Valued Mods. As the batons begin to be passed after the first 100 meters, we now have Super Duper Friends in the lead, closely followed by Angels of Death and the Illiterate Basterds. Highlander Legends, The Legion and Goon Platoon have fallen off the pace a bit, though nobody is out of it at this point.

We're now through the first half of the second leg, and the Illiterate Basterds hold a strong lead position, with the Super Duper Friends falling behind quickly, as The Legion and Goon Platoon are both making ground on them. The Valued Mods seem to have eaten too many of their favored bananas prior to the race, because they simply are not looking strong at all at this point, nor are Death By Comity who are at the back of the pack with them. Bunched together between those sets are the Angels of Death, More Valued Mods, Highlander Legends, and the Cube Conquering DYNASTY in that order. Oh no...shoop76 for the Highlander Legends has come up lame! The captain of the Highlander Legends has an opportunity to replace him quickly, but elects not to - we'll have to see how this plays out! At the second handoff, the Illiterate Basterds are way out in front of everyone. Considerably back but solidly in second place are the Super Duper Friends. Back a ways from them are the two teams from Angels of Death and Goon Platoon. Behind them is the pack, with the Highlander Legends and The Legion toward the front of it. But the Highlander Legends appear to be falling back very quickly due to shoop76's injury, and they may have a difficult time even finishing without a replacement for him.

Coming up on the third handoff, we have the Illiterate Basterds cruising and handily in first place. The Super Duper Friends are in second place, followed closely by the Goon Platoon and the Angels of Death, who are neck-and-neck now. Back from them a bit are The Legion, Valued Mods and Death By Comity. Meanwhile, shoop76 managed to get the baton handed off, and the Highlander Legends are trying to make a bit of a comeback, as they quickly catch up to the More Valued Mods and the Cube Conquering DYNASTY at the back of the pack.

The fourth handoffs all happened cleanly, and the final length is nearing completion. The Illiterate Basterds coast to an easy gold medal. Coming in for the silver are the Super Duper Friends. The Goon Platoon takes the bronze, with the Angels of Death coming in just behind them. The Valued Mods squeeze out a fifth place finish, while The Legions snags the sixth position. Death By Comity takes the seventh spot. And look at this...despite shoop76's injury the Highlander Legends manage an eigth place finish ahead of the Cube Conquering DYNASTY and the More Valued Mods!

Wait, Woodruff, you posted in the game chat that we don't know who qualified till the other heat finishes.

This means that you just pool both heats and take the highest scores? I thought the top three players from each heat would go further ...

If it's the first option then i screwed up my meta-game badly

To quote the rules given for the Long Jump:
"Only the longest distance for each player is used (they are not totaled) to determine the 6 who make the Finals. The two who have the 7th and 8th longest distances will finish in 7th and 8th place for the event, respectively.

Those 6 in the Finals will follow the identical procedure of the preliminary rounds again, with the best jump of each player in those Finals used to determine the final placement."
