Welcome to my favorite tournament ā the 2010-11 installment of the NCAA College Baseball season (this marks our fourth year). Iāve added some new tweaks this year to make this tournament more realistic to college hoops than ever before (in my humble opinionā¦lol).
FORMAT: 1 vs. 1 play
ELIGIBILITY: This tournament is open to all players, although I ask freebies to keep pace with the flow of the tourney ā six maps per week.
HOME MAPS: Sequential order and auto deploy are requiredā¦the rest is up to you.
DEADLINE: Registration will close Friday, Nov. 12.
TEAMS: This is set up to take in 192 teams, but if we still have open spots after the Friday, Nov. 12 deadline I will combine some leagues into hybrids and we'll go with a slightly lower number.
REGULAR SEASON: We will have a 31-game regular-season schedule, which will follow along with the real NCAA schedule as closely as possible. Some required tweaks to the schedule donāt allow an exact replica.
A new format this year has each regular-season game broken into a three-map scoring system (see box below). Teams that win 2 of 3 will usually come out on top, but it is possible to win one map and take the game if you win quickly and lose long battles. This will also allow us to post realistic basketball scores this year and track scoring stats for the teams. All maps are played on the home teamās settings. If the game is tied, an overtime map will be used.
ā¢ Teams get 2 bonus points for winning 2 of 3 maps and a 3-point bonus for sweeping all three. Scoring exampleā¦
Team A wins in 7 rounds (30-18)
Team A wins in 10 rounds (29-20)
Team A loses in 12 rounds (21-28)
Team A gets 2-point bonus
FINAL SCORE: Team A wins 82-66
MARCH MADNESS: At the end of the regular season, a tournament committee will select the 68-team field for the March Madness playoff bracket. Automatic bids are awarded to the winners of each conference tournament, so you can finish last in the regular season and still have a shot at the Big Dance with a run at the end of the year. The tourney will start with four āplay-inā games, which will comprise the last eight teams selected to make the field.
REVAMPED FORMAT
The tournament will be played under a seven-map format with each map representing a different player ā 5 starters and 2 bench players. Here are how the maps will break down.
Settings for starter maps: escalating, chained, foggy
PG ā Classic
SG ā Netherlands
SF ā CCU
PF ā Triple Alliance
C ā USA
Bench #1 ā higher seed's home settings
Bench #2 ā lower seed's home settings
Power-ups:
Star players get a bonus for winning their maps (5, 3 or 1 points)
6th man gets a bonus for winning their map (3, 2 or 1 points)
Sharp-shooters allow a coach to replace one of the starter maps with their home settings from the regular season.
Here's the scoring tables that will be used for the March Madness tourney.
NEW!!! POWER UPS: Teams can also earn āpower-upsā for their tournament teams by accomplishing various tasks during the regular season.
NEW!!! CHAMPION AND PRIZES ā The winner of this March Madness tournament is the winner of our Conquer Club event and will receive 1-year premium (also new). The runner-up will get 6-months premium and the other two players that reach the Final Four will get 3-months premium.
NIT TOURNEY ā We will also hold a consolation 32-team NIT tournament. It will follow along with the regular season format through the early rounds before adopting the March Madness format once it heads to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals. No prizes for this consolation tourneyā¦this is simply for fun and bragging rites.
SIGN-UPS ā The current list has 18 total leagues (192 schools)ā¦6 power conference, 7 mid-majors and 5 small conferences (see team list link below)
If you donāt see your school on the list, I may be willing to add it into a hybrid league ā I do ask that only Division I basketball schools make the list.
You will also notice some teams with a āRed Box" ā these are top programs that require players of āLieutenantā rank or higherā¦the remaining schools are open regardless of CC rank.
I will close signups at 192 teams or by the Friday, Nov. 12 deadlineā¦after that we will fill a reserves list ā these players often get a chance with an event of this size.
When selecting a team please include your home court settingsā¦map, forts, spoils & fog/sunny (sequential and auto deploy required).
Any questions, post them in the thread, so they can be answered for everyone.
