Sorry people, I theorise you're a product of your enviroment. Back in Vinnie V's day people didn't ingest the things you do. Pharmecuticals, simple pain relievers, food preservatives, smog, etc. etc. I suspect if you gave him an extra strength motrin it would mess with him too.
For them Absinthe was a high narcotic thus able to help get him in the mood to hack off an ear as a gift for his girlfreind. He had some tendancy toward being lonely added in I'd wager. For you it's just too mild.
tzor, any arcane wormwood knowledge you'd like to share?

I don't even think anyone knows what wormwood was used for outside of making absinthe.2dimes wrote:You discribe "wormwood" as "very mildly hallucinogenic" I suspect it's because of all the stuff we ingest now days. In old english literature it's described as poison.AlgyTaylor wrote:It's traditionally made with a very mildly hallucinogenic plant (wormwood), although you can get it made without. The Bison King wrote:It tastes like Licorice. - Shakespeare often refers to wormwood in Hamlet.
- Wormwood (Apsinthos in the Greek text) is the "name of the star" in the Book of Revelation (8:11) (kai to onoma tou asteros legetai ho Apsinthos) that John the Evangelist envisions as cast by the angel and falling into the waters, making them undrinkably bitter. Outside the Book of Revelation, there are up to eight further references in the Bible, showing that wormwood was a common herb of the era and that its awful taste was known, as a drinkable preparation applied for specific reasons.
- Wormwood is a junior devil in The Screwtape Letters, a novel by C. S. Lewis on human temptation.
- Miss Wormwood is the name of Calvin's teacher in Calvin and Hobbes, a former daily comic strip by Bill Watterson. This character is named after the Screwtape Letters character.

Re: Absinthe
It was probably easier to resurrect this old thread than to create a new one without context. I finally tried it for the first time at the lobby bar at the Casa Marina in Key West, Florida, where I have been staying for the past week. (I'm not sure how much of it is the "good stuff.")
It was ... interesting. I'll let you know tomorrow if I had any interesting halucinations worth remembering. Of course I only had one.

Unless I'm wrong, you still can't legally buy the *good* stuff in the USA. They raised the legal thujone levels to something more than zero, but IIRC it's still below proper absinthe.tzor wrote:It was probably easier to resurrect this old thread than to create a new one without context. Not really.

This. Doesn't matter the kind or not, tasty drink that's got a strong odor and taste. Like it or hate it usually. I like it, won't get you high.bedub1 wrote:I really like Absinthe. I pour it over sugar cube, then add water. It's best when it's really cold. Great stuff. No it doesn't make you hallucinate.

One would die of alcohol poisoning long before one could consume enough absinthe to get a substantial dose of thujone.

I really can't tell you the brand she used, because she did it behind the bar and I only caught a glimpse of the bottle, but I can report that I had no visions of any kind that night.

Re: Absinthe
Absinthe is one hell of a drunk. Like, yelling at shit that isn't there, drunk (not seeing things, just yelling at them).

Re: Absinthe
If you're interested in any intrinsic psychoactive value of thujone, try eating a handful of chili peppers and see if they make you trip ballz.
