Christine O'donnell's Funding
Stephanapolis just keeps on asking, demanding even, that she tell the truth about her college records.
Why so interested in one set of college records, but not another??? Why a small state senator, but not the president of the country?

Christine O'Donnell is a hard-core Bible-thumper. And I mean that term in the very worst possible sense. She has made the statement that masturbation is equivalent to adultery. She made the statement that since the Bible and prayer were taken out of our public schools, we have had weekly school shootings (which certainly is not true). She has actively advocated that creationism be taught in our public schools as well as the statement that evolution is not scientific.ViperOverLord wrote:How is she a whack job?Woodruff wrote:I don't know anything about her college records...but I don't need to know about them to know she's a freaking wack-job. Now as to her college record...Despite her claims beginning in 2006 on her Senate campaign website that she was a Farleigh Dickinson graduate, she in fact did not recieve a diploma from that university until 2010. She has claimed to have been accepted into a Princeton Masters Degree program when the fact was that at that time she had still not even received a Bachelors Degree from Farleigh Dickinson, making her statement of acceptance there a lie. She had, at that point, completed one non-graduate class at Princeton...maybe that's all it took.

so, she is a whack job because she believes in god, thinks prayer in school is a good thing, and said that giving into every temptation to masturbate may not be the healthiest decision mentally or physically...Woodruff wrote:Christine O'Donnell is a hard-core Bible-thumper. Whatever, I don't know much about her. Don't care too much. She does not fit into my tea party category, but I guess the tea party likes her

CO's beliefs on masturbation (in 1996):
+ "Masturbation is a selfish act," said the group's marketing director. O'Donnell cautioned that anyone who masturbates is "toying with his sexuality." She concluded: "You're going to be pleasing each other. And if he already knows what pleases him, and he can please himself, then why am I in the picture?"
+ "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action." "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose."
+ "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."
Her logic is sound and even if I don't subscribe to her belief system, I'm not going to hold it against her that she has some sort of moral fortitude to speak out about what she believes. None of that makes her a whack job as you put it.
- Regarding creationism being taught in public school; I only like it taught as theory along with the theory of evolution. I don't think either theory is proven and neither theory should be promoted ahead of the other. You can find it a little wacky if you want (assuming that's her stance). But if that's the measure then there's more than plenty of politicians that are wack-jobs. In any event its such a small issue that I could almost care less. Creationism vs. Evolution has and probably never will be a defining issue for myself when it comes to voting for a US Senator and really it's only the wack-job fringe on both sides that make it an issue (or any politcal hack that wants to make it an issue).
- Regarding school shootings - “We took the Bible and prayer out of public schools, and now we're having weekly shootings practically,” - She did not say there were weekly shootings. And that statement does not bother me and in fact good for her for saying it. BTW - That statement was in 98 if that matters to the context (could be the year of Columbine off the top of my head).
Re: Parargraph 2
If you look at her wiki page you'll see that she attended her college graduation ceremony as early as 93, which means she was close enough to graduation to walk the stage. There was some sort of debt issue between 1994-2003. When she competed her final course in 2010 she was officially awarded the awarded her a bachelor's degree in English literature with a concentration in Communication. I don't know if that means she had graduated w/o the concentration earlier or not. I think it's a gray issue at this point though and if her opponent wants to make an issue of it then we'll find out more.
I don't see anything on Wiki about Princeton but if you post a link I'll give it a look-see.
----
So you've tried to give her a shakedown and reduce her to nut job status based on skewing her social positions and ignoring her sound economic positions. Congratulations you would be a great Democratic strategist.
Now let's look at the marvelous things that she stands for:
- She opposes earmarks. Earmarks are BS and we all know it. The political corruption via earmarks is insane and I'll bet you that her establishment opponent isn't taking that tough stand. Opposing earmarks is a tough stand to take too, because automatically it negates potential campaign contributions from companies and individual donors that feed off of earmarks. It's a bold and courageous stance.
- Blocking cap and trade legislation will be one of her first priorities. Good! Cap and trade is flat out wrong for America!
- A politician that doesn't believe in blank checks - "Voting to spend money we don't have has become the appealing option for too many politicians. The men and women of America know this is not sustainable."
- O'Donnell has said the first thing she wants to do when elected is to vote to repeal the health care legislation enacted by Congress in 2010. Good! America didn't want it and Congress smugly said in your face we're passing in anyways! F that.
- Taxes: She has pledged not to increase taxes.
- Obama's socialism - She has had no problem calling a spade a spade. I don't believe her opponent will be that savvy and instead be an Obama apologist.

Creationism in school! Oh Noes!!! People might start believing that there is a Creator which has endowed them with certain inalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We can't have that concept even discussed and compared with other philosophies of origin, least of all in an educational setting.

your previous quote, specifically. and this is the last time I am decyphering for you.
"bible thumper" = "believes in god" 1-0
"prayer taken out of school has led to bad shootings/bad things" = "she thinks prayer in school is a good thing" 2-0
"masturbation is cheating" = "masturbation is not healthy mentally for a relationship" 3-0

"bible thumper" = "believes in god" 1-0
"prayer taken out of school has led to bad shootings/bad things" = "she thinks prayer in school is a good thing" 2-0

Good, because your "decyphering skills" are terrible.Phatscotty wrote:your previous quote, specifically. and this is the last time I am decyphering for you.
Incorrect. I don't even understand how you get "believes in God" out of "Bible thumper"...the two concepts aren't even close. 0-1.Phatscotty wrote:"bible thumper" = "believes in god" 1-0
Incorrect. She believes that taking prayer out of school has led directly to those shootings AND she believes that there have been "shootings every week". 0-2.Phatscotty wrote:"prayer taken out of school has led to bad shootings/bad things" = "she thinks prayer in school is a good thing" 2-0
This one is at least dealt with honestly. But it's awfully presumptious to make that determination for someone else. I don't honestly see how masturbation necessarily negatively affects a relationship. Could it be evidence of a problem? Certainly. Is it usually? I would say absolutely not. 0-3Phatscotty wrote:"masturbation is cheating" = "masturbation is not healthy mentally for a relationship" 3-0
0-3 means "where did you get that stupid idea?"

Re: Christine O'donnell's College Records. (VERY IMPORTANT!
Hmmmm. I'd say if you want your kids to pray in school then send em to private school. Can't we just teach kids the 3 R's and leave their "salvation" up to them personally?
This TEA Party thing is supposed to about restoring a responsible government not the Jesus Christ Revival Tour. Nice way to alienate a huge section of the population that is sick of government gone wild and that doesn't necessarily think religion is synonymous with morality.
I'll cite(and tweak) GC's 11th commandment: "keep thy religion and sexuality to thyself".

about the shooting...you focus too much on the literal words. Sure, they may have been a bad choise of words, but the overall point was prayer in school good/bad for whatever reason you want to cite. the reasons, fine. the overall stands

No, the overall doesn't stand. Prayer in public school goes against what this country stands for. If an individual wants to pray in school, they're absolutely free to do so IN A PRIVATE MANNER. But to have public prayers is a form of prosetylizing and is ridiculous.Phatscotty wrote:about the shooting...you focus too much on the literal words. Woodruff,
Could you please be precise about your thoughts on the relationship between "being a bible-thumper" and "believeing in god?"
As I am reading this, it sounds like you are attempting to say that there are bible-thumpers out there who do not believe in god.
Please clarify for me and maybe others who are reading here.

No, certainly not.<grin> Just the reverse. I am stating that there are those who believe in God who are not "Bible thumpers". My view of a Bible thumper is someone who attempts to force their Bible-based morality on others through changes in legislation (keeping in mind that I am someone that believes quite strongly that the morals that Jesus taught are good ones to live by).shanksdigs wrote:Woodruff,

I say that they are not even close because it's a matter of philosophy...a non "Bible thumper" has far more respect for our Constitution than a "Bible thumper" does.

yeah, okay. I hear that. However it was not a stretch in my original assertation about "believing in god".
