Clan League: Season 3 - Info, Q&A

Only those clans can explain their decision, so I guess it's not our place to make suppositions as to why they're not participating. All I can say is that the league will be all the poorer for their absence.

Like I said earlier, I've given 3 clans until Wed NOON EST to sign up, and at that point you can decide if the league is weaker. I see some really strong new entrants (like BPB last year) that may surprise a few people, and the overall play in the league should still be quite high. Eg. There was a player that was like 10-1 in the league last year when they left to start a new clan early on. A few AOD members played their main quads team and they are quite good.

I believe this will be just as competitive as last years if not more-so. A loss of a couple of the Greats, but a lot of good additions from clans that are really wanting to prove themselves....eg... playing with something to prove/attitude. Not to mention the addition of TOFU into our division itself will fill quite a few voids right there

I think it will be interesting between the existing clans but I am not convinced of too many of the newcomers (besids FOED). I just think it will be more interesting as a lot of the existing clans are gaining ground; like myth, bofm, g1, legion etc.

I make that 24 clans, so all are in and 4 divisions of 6?

Any idea when you will have the divisions decided?

I used a full snake draft and ran into a couple of issues. I swapped #6 and #7 as their divisions had too many of the same clans from last year and also swapped #13 and #14 so that the Div2 playoff clans didn't end up in the same Div. I have one other issue and because it involves my clan's division, I've sent Masli an email as to his thoughts about switching #17 and probably #19. That gives it quite a good mix of skill and mix from last year. TOFU's division will be the toughest I think as they are a promoted clan, although another division is surprisingly balanced at first glance. I'm getting excited to see how this year will play out.

The only thing that is certain right now is that the following 4 clans are not in the same divisions.

Knights of the Round Table

I also noted that 11 of the original 15 clans from Season 1 are playing their 3rd year of the league.

So....are the divisions (and who is in each one) a closely-guarded secret? Wouldn't a seedings system be the most equitable way of distributing clans between the divisions (seeds 1-4 can be kept apart)?

Not a request or a complaint, but merely a suggestion.

Seedings were done via regular season 2 finishing spots, the rest by the most recent ladder results. It was almost a pure snake draft, however based on an even number a number of clans would end up in similar divisions to last year. I am going to wait on a discussion with Masli first before I release the final divisions.

What other seedings system are you suggesting? 1,2,3, and 4 above are the playoff teams.

Do the newly-promoted clans rank lower in the seedings than all of the clans in last season's Div.1 (those that were not relegated)?

Creating seeds 1-4 (Div.1 semi-finalists from Season 2) seems fair enough, but how to then seed from No.5 onwards? Based on results in Season 2? Maybe not so equitable as some clans may have had a tougher group. You could seed 1-4 based on Season 2, then 5-24 based on the ladder you created which seems to have taken CL results greatly into consideration.

I don't think it really matters - we'll play whatever the circumstances - though it does seem a shame that you can immediately see an anomaly by identifying a tough division before the season has even started. It should be as balanced as possible, especially as Season III can be classified as a 'new event' given the huge variance from Season II. The term 'newly promoted' doesn't really have any bearing, as it refers to promotion from something that is now defunct.

Unless I am mistaken, seeding goes:

1st (div 1b)
1st (div 1a)
2nd (1b)
2nd (1a)
3rd (1b)

etc

Meaning you will end up with KORT, TSM, FOED and 2 others from near the bottom of the ladder. Which definately would seem like a tough division!

Where are you guys getting the seeding from? I know its not the RPI system, is it from somewhere dealing with season 2?

Masli and I are still talking about this. The newly promoted clans may disrupt the balance as they are #12 and #13. We are looking at several options. The clans that battled all last season deserve their rankings, however, Masli has some unique suggestions.

Hmm,i think that league with 4 division( each have 6 clans) ,where everybody will have chance for play in Playoffs. After play in division ,winners and runer-up play in quarter-final, These is similar to World Basketball championshim,but will have home and away game.
I also have idea,that you can put 4 for clans(in ladder) to be first seeds in division,then next 4 to take second place in division,and these you go to last 24 teams. In this way you will get 4 division,with similar strengt. And what its good,that everybody will get same chance to play for title.

Masli and I chatted quickly for 10 minutes this morning and I think we are on the same page, just have to reset the snake and figure out how to finalize. Masli and I are time zone challenged for conversations sometimes. I also have to find the original Season2 promotion plan to see where clans would have ended up as I expect some imbalance due to TOFU's strength outside of the league.

I dont know what concept will be season 3,but from mine view,i think that 4 division, from every first 2 move to Play-off quarter final,and after that semifinal,and final.
