Sorry, this particular illogic really bugs me. I get that you may have lost enough men that stopping makes sense from a global perspective, but just because you lost 6 out of 6 doesn't mean you're more or less likely to lose #7.

But that's not what drunkmonkey was saying. His point, as you seemed to have grasped (but ignored), was that if you start off 20 vs. 10 and end up at 7 v 6, it may not make sense to keep on attacking, since the odds of victory at the given point are less than the initial odds of winning.
