Okay, okay.... damn non-simpsons lovers.
The next person to post in this thread can ask the next question.
btw, here was the lineup:
C - Mike Scioscia, got radiation poisoning
1B - Don Mattingly, kicked off the team because of his sideburns
2B - Steve Sax, arrested for every unsolved murder in New York
3B - Wade Boggs, punched by Barney Gumbel during an argument about the best British Prime Minister
SS - Ozzie Smith, lost forever in the house of mysteries (or whatever it was called)
LF - Jose Canseco, got held up carrying furniture out of a burning house
CF - Ken Griffey Jr., contracted gigantism from a nerve tonic
RF - Darryl Strawberry, the only one to actually play in the game
P - Roger Clemens, hypnotized into thinking he was a chicken

you got it.... altho dcowboys helped. I didn't phrase my question well, as I didn't realize that Johnson's 20 actually counted (for awhile it didn't count as the single-game record because the game itself went into extra innings, but wikipedia tells me that MLB has since reversed itself)keiths31 wrote:20
Clemens and Johnson I think...although I thought someone from the Cubs tied it a couple of years ago?
*edit* just saw the above poster include Kerry Wood...Cubs
it's all you, keith.

My guess was Jaques Plante. I'm not really sure, so I went and looked it up. I never would have guessed the correct answer. Plante was the first to play with a mask, and never go back to playing without one. (Plante started wearing one in 1959.)
However, the first player to use one was Clint Benedict, back in 1927. It was made of leather, but he couldn't see the low shots while wearing it, so he didn't wear it for long.
So, do I get credit for my guess, or do you want to go again?
