manipulating the other players
So in a 5 player Scotland game, a player "A" was in a nice position but left a hole in their defenses. I was in no position to take advantage of it, but i thought maybe i could manipulate player "B" to attack A. I said something like "hey B, perhaps you noticed, but A has a hole in his defenses" and A went crazy on me saying that I was using cheap tactics and ordering other players around. Was my suggestion (if you could even call it that, it was more of me stating a fact, a "hint hint" if you will) really that out of line? I thought the chat function was for that purpose. manipulate the other players though diplomacy. What do people think?
You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test --- George W. Bush
"What's George Bush's position on Roe v wade?"
"He really doesn't care how people get out of New Orleans."

Re: manipulating the other players
I see no problem with this. Ultimately its up to each player to decide how to take their turn and what to do with their troops. All you did was make a suggestion, not even a threat (Like attack A or I'm going to come after you next turn). B can easily ignore you if attacking would not be to their advantage. A is just ticked because he would rather not have his weaknesses pointed out and be attacked obviously, but I've always been of the mind that if you use psychological warfare to win, its fair game.
As always, expect to be rated accordingly. I learned long ago that people take offense to anything in chat. Still I think its weak to rate someone lower because of something like that. The only time I've ever rated someone down from chat is when they were flat out insulting and degrading toward me.

As long as you don't go over the line with your "suggestion" (ex.start to flame the player if he/she doesn't follow your instructions), I see no problem with this.

Re: manipulating the other players
Yes and no.
You are allowed to manipulate players, and he is allowed to do so as well. So if you point out something 'obvious' he may rant and call you a cheat, and hope through the ruckus that ensue's everybody will forget about his hole..
If someone gets too close in his comments, please FAMO (foe and move on), you will no longer be able to see what he wrote in gamechat, nor will he be able to join games with you (except tournament games)

Re: manipulating the other players
you broke no rules and neither did anyone else, but your technique could use some refinement. a little sugar in your manipulation goes a long way.

There is no fog rule and I am no gentleman.

Re: manipulating the other players
@squishyg What kind of strategy can you recommend to put "a little sugar in your manipulation"?
